  1. Make sure you used the right atf fluid, On my (ex) Audi an Audi specialist was going to put dextron 3 in, but the Audi box uses a special fluid made by esso, and dexstron will eventually damage the gear box. its all down to friction modifiers...or so I have been told. I would check with Lexus as to the correct fluid. if it is different now would be the time to put the correct fluid in. before its to late..
  2. I stand corrected, here is a link to expsplain in more detail.. http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/?deriv=20267 I dont see how they can double it!!! so a guy with a little diesel doing 50K miles a year will pay less than a guy with luxury car he only uses at weekends?
  3. The price to £300 band "G" is only for cars registered after march 23 2006, which will increase to 400 after April. unless I read it wrong?
  4. Mintex do a matched set of pads and disks, they are really good and the pads have a good feel to them, they have a bit of bite when they warm up. I fitted them on my gs300 cost around £110.00 off ebay for the front pads and disks. On my LS430 i fitted blueprint disks and mintex pads, cost me £140.00 for the front disks and pads.
  5. I believe it use's the switch on the fuel filler door to let let the system know it has been refilled?
  6. I came across this while looking at the link above, a supercharged ls430 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXGifEgI0cU...feature=related Nice!!
  7. On the systems I have fitted to generators, the way you detect a blocked or dirty filter is by differential pressure, if the filter is allowing air to flow freely then the air pressure will be similar on both sides, if the filter is blocked then you will have a different pressure on the suction fan side . or they could just measure the vaccum in the fan side. it may explain why you could get an intermittent signal ?
  8. UPDATE! just fitted new flat type wipers.. the whistle is less, but strangely moved position, it now seems to be around the front center, the wife thinks its coming from the vents, but it sounds like it is out side to me! I do notice that I can hear more wind noise, but it is only from cross winds, I think it is because it is so quiet , in a normal car you would not be able to hear it?
  9. Hi The filters have nothing to do with the seat heating, they are only for the cooling, the heating works through electric heating elements, like an electric blanket Pete I thought the heat for the front seats was just warm air blown through?, because they take ages to heat up, so I assumed it was air heated and not electrical?
  10. I have just seen a few of the TALEX units on ebay, they usually go for a around £30.00, but on the Talex web site it says you need to subscribe? and its £29.00 per year?
  11. I do not condone or support copying, but has anyone tried copying the sat nav disks? nudge nudge wink wink?
  12. Hi Anthony, I have had my 430 for a few weeks now , and I am still getting used to it. I think I have just managed to get the seat in the right position, with thousands of positions to chose from...lol I had a GS300 before, the 430 is a BIG car, I have managed to put a small dent in the front and the rear bumper, even with parking sensors, you have to get used to having the back end sticking out of parking spaces. But I have to say it is the most solid, quiet well build car I have ever driven. I find it is quite a anonymous car, but that is one of the reasons I wanted one, I have had a BMW and An A6 and an A8, and the 430 is far superior inside real wood, real chrome etc With regard to the traffic master, if it is not connected to your stanav then you should be able to remove the whole thing, I just bought a service manual on EBAY for a few quid, it covers virtually everything. happy motoring!
  13. Hi All, My LS430 occasionally whistles when above 80mph, it comes from the front passenger side, I think it is outside, id did find some loose trim at the lower front wing which in now screwed back on, but it is still there1 anyone had or has a similar problem. I understand they used the same wind tunnel as the bullet(train) to get the aerodynamics's spot on, and it has a very low drag coefficient. so I would assume it should not "whistle"..lol Alex.
  14. I have been studying the market for the last year, and finally got a LS430 2001Y very good condition 56K on the clock one owner for 10K. at 106K you should be able to get at least 9K private sale, there is a lot of interest in the LS 430 as it is the flagship of Lexus, it would be a enthusiast who would more than likely buy it . I would use and always have used Parkers, as how many people have assess to glasses guide!, normally you have to pay or be in the trade. when I bought mine I was fully aware of the MPG and it has never been a worry for me, if you want power you are going to use more fuel.., and it does better (slightly)on MPG (on the motorway) than the GS300 I had before! A car is only worth what people are willing to pay for it! i have only ever bought 1 (my first ) car from a garage, if you trade in a 10K car you will loose 2k (compared to a Private sell) and pay an extra 2 k for the new car. As the 430@s have only just crossed the 10K price line, it would be a good time to sell. another year and there will be a lot more on the market at lower prices.
  15. Alex As Steve says 225 is normal.... 235's will mess up your satnav when it looses signal.... 225/55/17 was only made for the Lexus LS430 its an odd size so people fit the closest they can get!!!! I woudn't worry too much about it though its 10mm wider than standard and only 5.5mm larger in diameter so the car sits 2.75mm higher at the back..... not much!!! Pete Yes that could explain it. I was thinking back to the GS300 sport which had wider tires at the back.. I know there is a big debate on here, but has anyone fitted Pilot sports? were they as quiet as the dunlops?
  16. I do not have the temp control set to dual, so both sides are the same. I drove for 4 hours to day with no problems, I also carried out a system check, with no fault codes present. Below is some text from the Lexus repair manual I have. An automatic air conditioner system which provides enhanced air conditioner comfort according to the occupants' senses has been newly adopted. In the previous automatic air conditioner system, the Ecu determined the required outlet air temperature and blower air volume in accordance with the calculation formula that has been obtained based on infor- mation received from the sensors. However, because the senses of a person are rather complex, a given temperature is sensed differently, depending on the environment in which the person is situated. For example, a given amount of solar radiation can feel comfortably warm in a cold climate, or extremely uncomfortable in a hot climate. Therefore, as a technique for effecting a higher level of control, a neural network* has been adopted in the automatic air conditioner system. with this technique, the data that has been fetched under varying environmental conditions is stored in the Ecu, which effects control to provide enhanced air conditioner comfort. *: Neural Network =Is capable of effecting complex control by artificially simulating the information processing method of the nervous system of living organisms in order to establish a complex input/output relationship that is similar to a human brain. An intelligent swing register, which controls the orientation and the angle of the front center register, has been newly adopted for improved comfort. maybe it is to clever for its own good?...lol
  17. I have dunlop 225 's fitted to the front and dunlop 235's fitted on the rear, is this normal? Comments please.. Alex.
  18. The heating on my LS430 , is behaving differently to my previous GS300, on the motorway after an hour of driving the center vents give out very cold air, I have to close them to stop frostbite setting in. Also when it is cold outside (below 5 dec C) it blows hot air into both driver and passenger foot wells, it seems to happen after you accelerate etc when the engine develops heat, its only for a few minutes but it makes you turn the temp down, then 10 minutes later you have to turn it up again. Is this normal? 95% of the time it works OK. I usually just set it to 22 deg C , all in auto and never have to touch it.
  19. Hi, On my LS430 2001, the boot seems very heavy to open, should it be balanced? or are my lifters failing? it stays up, no fluid leaking, so I assume they are OK, thanks...
  20. Hi All, just joined today. I have a LS430 2001, can any one tell me where I can get an up to date sat nav disk? and also what do i need to do/buy to get the bluetooth phone function? thanks in advance Alex.
