I was driving round central London yesterday, and I was surrounded by them, I must have seen at least 6, they made my LS430 look a bit dated. -

UPDATE! Fitted the new strut my self, on Saturday, all working fine, I am glad I don't have to drive my wife's 980cc Micra to work any more it took longer to get the rear seat out and lift the parcel shelf to get the top of the strut, than to change the strut assembly. and you need a SST tool to get the air line out of the strut, I managed to make one myself, otherwise I would not have been able to replace the strut. I was surprised how thin the air bag is, cain't be more that 2-3 mm thick. also took the height sensor apart, it just has two carbon strips and a wiper, that read form 400 to 3.4k ohms in opposite directions, would probably cost under a tenner to make your self! and they charge £150 each.

it sounds like it would make sense to sell the car and buy another newer one now, you should still get good money even if it needed a new cam belt, they only cost £50.00 its up to the buyer to find out the labor cost. or try a local garage, and you supply the bits. or put it on auto trader for a couple of weeks and see if you get any interest.

well, after quite a few phone calls these are the prices I got Lexus Swindon - £573.68 Lexus Tunbridge wells - £573.68 Lexus Bristol - £573.68 Toyota Glos - £573.68 CheapToyotaParts.co.uk - £419.00 delivered I checked with a few specialist company's and on the Arnott web site in USA, no one makes replacements, nearly £600.00 for one strut..OUCH. But I have no choice so I have ordered it and will fit it at the weekend. if your looking for a air strut for a LS400 then try here http://www.arnottindustries.com/part_LEXUS...yid7_pid47.html And if you want a custom air suspension Ray( really nice bloke and very helpful) will make you a pair for the same prices as one from Lexus, but you loose the electronic control, he also can supply suspension compressors for around £130.00 where they are normally around £450.00 http://www.rayvernhydraulics.com/products/ from all the people I talked to it does look like the air suspension is a quality product and it is very rare for them to fail, I must just have bad luck.

Well, did some further investigation and the air bad is leaking, just one tiny hole, you could not hear it leaking , I had to put some sopy water on to find it. The Lexus guy I talked to said in six years he had only ever replaced one. looks like mine will be the second :tsktsk: any one found another source for these air struts, I have seen the sites in USA but they only list the LS400. I am also going to try a a breakers yard, any one know any body breaking a LS430? I guess the next thing will be that they have to replace them as a pair Alex.

I have spoken to Lexus, they say they have rarely replaced the air spring/air bag, they think it is more likely to be a height sensor, I did some tests and noticed that the rear drivers side goes up and down 20mm lower than all the other corners, but drops another 25mm after 4 hours, I assume the other rear side drops to, it will have to do further checks, I want to take the sensors off and test them, has any one taken them apart? I'm not convinced a height sensor could cause an air leak? the only common part appears to be the high control valve it is fed by one pipe from the front height valve then feeds independently to both air springs, but from the manual it looks like there is only one vent solenoid? how much does the height sensors cost, I have been told around £150.00?

Top Gear Ls400
Matrixabc replied to rabnoolas's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
I must admit I was surprised that the LS400 did so badly on the lap times.. Obviously not the car but the driver.... :duh: The Swindon police use a black GS430... If you want to catch up on top gear episodes , try iplayer http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/page/item/b00...ml?src=ip_potpw, I have got the video out of my PC into my TV, works great, no need for a recorder ever again... :) -
So to Clarify When In PWR mode the traction control does not work? when going down a hill you should not change down a gear and load the transmission it is best to change on the flat before the hill? with regard to the "KickDown" check the floor mats are not obstructing the button which is located under the accelerator.
-
I do notice that if the engine was cold it would restrict the power you can get out of it, a bit like having it in snow mode. but once warmed, and in PWR mode from the lights it would pull smoothly through all the gears. I would have thought it was more likely to be the intelligence behind the gear box and engine management system. also remember you have an adaptive box so it will learn how you drive, so if you drive light footedly for 99% of the time, it will be sluggish to change gear, but in Kick down it should go flat out. just to add, I have noticed it slow on take of if the traction control has come in when setting off

Hi, I have just noticed that the rear height of the wheel arch compared to the tyre appears to be low when parked at work on a flat car park, as soon as i start the engine it goes back up to the normal position, Question:- should the suspension drop at all, in around 8 hours? I cant tell at home because the car is parked with one wheel on a pavement.
-
The ones on my BMW monitored the pressure and temperature, the idea was when you have pumped your Tyre to the correct pressure, you press the set pressure button, then if the pressure falls by a certain amount you would get a low pressure warning, if the Tyre pressure dropped rapidly you would get a blow out warning, the temperature sensor is to compensate for temp v's pressure. one thing to note is that you cannot use puncture repair spray, it will stop your sensors from working Also they are usually located where the trye valve is, and they work by radio transmission, Now that you mention it, mine used to give me a warning when I passed the RAC building in Bristol on the M5, I assumed it was because of the powerful radio transmitters they have interfering with the signals, did the fault happen in the same area of the M40?

Chris, you want to nip over to Costco, they have some good prices, its very close to you is it not? -
I have it on my LS430 on the drivers door, it is know as "frosting" (assuming you have laminated glass fitted), and is supposed to caused by some window cleaner solvents attacking the double glazed windows from the bottom of the window as the solvent runs down the window and collects at the base of the glass. I dident read that anyone had found a way to stop it, you just have to hope it does not spread. the only solution is to replace the glass! you can see the "frosting" in the link below http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=354512
