  1. where and when will we be able to see the results for the spider unit and have you got increased insurance costed yet. Not sure when, the web site just says coming soon. I'll price up when if I decide to go ahead. http://www.dieseltuning.co.uk/
  2. Would have to notify insurance but spider cover the engine in event of damage caused by their unit (It's also plug n play, so can remove before service). Will watch out for them posting the 220d test results. They claim 216bhp with 80nm increase in torque. I don't hammer the car so not to worried out the clutch. Will be interesting to see the results of mpg on a motorway run. do you mean the spider or mpg for the dps4.earlier i was asking about smoothness improvement over std diesel. Mpg for the spider unit, on a run I would expect a big improvement due the increased torque. DPS4 with std diesel has given me about 2-3mpg over v-power. This is the first time I've used std diesel in the car.

  4. have you purchased in 5ltr bottle and have you noticed smoother running. No mine is 500ml. Can't say I've noticed smoother running over the v-power, but mpg is better and I'm driving more normally now. Late for work today so sat at 86 in 6th 2000rpm, no real difference to the mpg 39.5. I'm now considering the spider tuning box which is supposed to give much increased lower down torque (Still hate the flat spot up to 1800rpm). They have a 220d test car running the unit, so will wait to see the results. Anyone tried a tuning unit in a 220d?
  5. I agree, have switched to standard diesel and DPS4. Just had a return of 40.5mpg on my last tank. I would estimate an increase of 2-3mpg with DPS4 over the v-power I was using. I was getting 38ish mpg overall post egr and cat change. Hopefully this will be the norm from now on. Driving at 78 in 6th on cruise. Now just have to get the rattles and shakes sorted!
  6. It has happened twice now, in two different places. It is not only without the clutch down either. Also, I got in my car and sat on the phone for 5 minutes, then tried to start it and had an absolute nightmare!! In the end I got out, locked it and re-entered before it worked! It may just be an issue with that particular key? I am going to try the other one and see if the same happens. If so Ill take it into Lexus and see if they know. The button sequence (Amount of presses) is the same as a normal keyed ignition. i.e I (Radio), II (Dash light etc) , III with clutch depressed (Engine start). I think only on initial entry does it start with the clutch depressed first time. At least mine does!!!
  7. Jamboo, You may have just stumbled upon the answer to all the mpg problems!!!
  8. Ragsy, I think you will find all the moaners and critics on here (Me especially) complain about the same thing you have, mpg. We all agree it's a great car otherwise. Wouldn't count on it getting better unless you drive v carefully with your right foot! I've got 38mpg on the comp at the moment, driving at 75mph - even use cruise at 40mph+ if I can get away with it. Just an experiment - all this for an extra 3mpg, think I'd rather lose the extra 60 miles per tank!
  9. Definately now! Didn't realise the service guide was 40k, thats ludicrous! I'll be replacing mine as it obviously wont have been done at the 20k service. Probably go with the jetex, just had a look at their catalouge. http://www.jetex.co.uk/website/filter_choo...id=1&mod=IS what do you expect from it? Will it increase the induction noise? Do you think it will comply with the warranty? Never had trouble before with these. TBH it is something I usually change straight away when I buy a new car but haven't this time. I don't use them as a performance upgrade rather a long life filter with better quality and filtration.

  11. try motorway at 70 in 6th with cruise on.mine does low fiftys like that. DGMAN - How does your engine sound at 70 in 6th. Cant do that in mine, to much vibration. GWilso - I took a look at my removed egr valve (22k) and it was really coked up - about 5-6mm all over. Ask your dealer to change out and the cat too, when they do the 5th injector. Also, if your not using v-power or BP Ultimate put some Millers DPS4 in with your regular diesel, a lot of guys on here recommend it. At 60mph in 5th you should be in the 40's no problem. As DGMAN says reset your trip - you dont know how the car was driven before you got it.
  12. Sorry to here that but they obviously don't know that there is a fix for this on all IS220d rear view mirrors my mate has just had his replaced under warranty on his SE-L and it made a world of difference. Ask them to look into it further. Great news thanks for the info! :)
  13. Not around here (Portugal), you can have a luxury with the sport gearing (for 5000 euros more). Guess that answers the question of is it worth getting it changed as an aftermarket job!!!
  14. Does anyone know of a fix for the shaking rear view mirror on the SE-L. The dealer says no fix for the auto-dimm version. Any truth in that?
  15. Know what you mean, I came from a S60 D5, lovely car just a bit dated - was looking at a newer one, but knew that the new shape S60 comes out later in the year. The missus has given me so much grief about changing now I'm going to wait until the warranty is about to expire (14 months). Even tho I'll have lost even more money by then
  16. I mentioned earlier in the thread - the new courtesy car I had (220 Base model) gave me 42mpg. What I didn't mention was, the gearbox was a lot smoother, and it felt as tho 1st had a lot more urgency. Mentioned that to the dealer but fell on deaf ears! They may well have ironed out some of the issues on the new ones. Don't forget that the complaints on here are justified, but equally there are others on here with nothing but praise for the 220d. You're doing the right thing by having one for the day away from the sales rep.
  17. Not a war zone yet! I think the sport model you have is more useable in day to day driving because of the different rear axle ratio, hence your better returns. I've had all the mods done and as I've just said on an earlier post, tried a base model which returned a maximum of 42mpg! (All extra urban) and thats with skinny tyres and no heavy electric seats etc. Interstingly, Lexus Liverpool service department insist 35mpg is normal (Still changed all the bits tho ) , I pointed out that the offical 6ft mpg poster next to his head disagreed as it showed a combined return of 44mpg! Ho hum, no point in going on - still trying to swallow the £3k pill to get me into an A4. Not going down too well with the other half! So might be stuck with it a little while longer! you can buy a lot of diesel for 3k and nail it all day long and it will stil be cheaper than swapping. Yeah, I know, that's my view with my sensible head on! But.... as with all things, when you're not happy you're not happy and things start to irk, to the point where they irrationally become bigger than they actually are. Mirror shake - dealer says no fix for auto dimm. Squeaks and cracks from dash. Odd gearing plus a 6th gear being there but not being able to use it until at licence losing speeds. If I was just getting into the car, driving as I always have done and getting 40 ish mpg, then these things probably wouldn't annoy me half as much. I dont want to be totally negative - v cold this morning so used the bum warmer for the first time - very nice. See, I can do it - a nice balanced post good 'n' bad!

  19. They're taking the p**s! If you are driving no more than 60mph, then yes low 40's is acheivable. Soon as you hit motorway speeds then it drops. I've had 5th injector, egr and new cat fitted. Still can't manage more than 36mpg. Mine has 22k on the clock. I had a 220d base model (No heavy seats, smaller wheels etc) as a courtesy car, took it on a run (60mph constant) and got 42mpg. I've only ever seen 40mpg from mine on the computer twice in 2500 miles.
  20. Disagree, it's all in the mix. Weight and power are major factors involved in how a car performs in relation to fuel ecconomy. They topic has been done to death anyways. Suffice to say it will be the first and last Lexus (Diesel) I own. Back to the Germans I'm afraid. I've had the car for just over a month and checked out changing it for an A4tdi. It's going to be a 2-3k pill to swallow if I want to change now. Even thought its only been a month, on some days I think it might just be worth it!! are you going to buy a new audi. Can get a Sep 07 s-line for just under 20k. So yeah am weighing up my options

  22. I agree - I have the grey leather in mine. Seems better than the black in my last car...
  23. I don't have words... how can you compare these? there is 70hp difference! And the A is much smaller car, much much noisier! My mum has this same, so I know what I am talking about. I was joking.... However, just to make a point consider this. A180CDI Weight 1345Kg, 109Bhp = 12.3Kg per horse - Claimed 54mpg (Combined) - Actual 49mpg. IS220d Weight 1585Kg, 175Bhp = 9.1Kg per horse - Claimed 44mpg (Combined) - Actual 34mpg. Both EURO IV. So a car that pulls an extra 3Kg per horse, has a worse drag coefficent, gives 15mpg more!!! Of course its a different class of car and you can't really compare them. but in terms of engineering it proves how much of a dissapointment it is that the IS can't get close to its official figures. BTW try parking your IS next to your mums A class, it isn't a small car!
  24. Hi All, Just an update, had the egr valve and the cat replaced - result...... a slight drop to 34mpg! Have decided to just keep taking the car back each 1000 miles if it doesn't improve. I have 14 months left on waranty, they will be tired of seeing me by the end of it!. They gave me a 220d se as a courtesy car from which I got 43mpg on the same route/speed. Add to that the electric seats from my SEL and I should still be able to get 40mpg. Other than that it's the girlfriends merc A180cdi - 46.5mpg on the run to work today and not hanging around either!
