  1. im on my 2nd 430 and both have been a bit front endy, the tighter the lock the worse they are, but these things dont tend to be bought for their nimbleness through the twisties. the boot should just to say move when it is released and the struts do make it quite heavy to open ( and they quite often do go aswell) as far as i know the disp 2 button is only used if the car has the optional extra of radar assist cruise control fitted.( mostly fitted in america on 2001 models) not 100% sure if thats what its for though enjoy your 430
  2. Just got a Triumph Rocket 3 (because I saved so much on what I was planning to spend on a GS450H). Really interesting getting into cruising (in the motorcycling sense I hasten to add). Have you got a bike Andy? Mike oh just one of those small engined triumphs! i wouldnt like to have to pick that up if i dropped it! ive got a cbr 600 a slightly different animal, and whatever type of cruising you like is up to you! did you receive the disc by the way? andy Haha ... when I said just got a triumph rocket3 I meant 'recently got' Do you get to any of the local bike meets during the summer. There's a new one nr Stokesley apparently. Yeah got the disc thanks but haven't had a chance to try fitting it yet. Might manage it tomorrow. Mike havent been out on it much at all the last couple of years, it sees about as much daylight as the barbecue does, but hopefully the sun will be better next year, and it might see a few more miles added on the clock. andy

  4. both of mine have done it, the colder the morning the worse the smell, so just assume it is the choke
  5. I would suggest if you're keeping the car within the warranty period, then main dealer servicing would make a bit of sense. If you're going to have the car for more than a year, a good mechanic will do. Just get the service book stamped. Main dealers (lexus or otherwise) don't get paid much for warranty work, so it's not in their interest to point things out that might need attention, if you haven't already spotted it yourself. When I got my LS430 2001 last month I paid CP Motor Services in Stockton £60 to go over the car with a fine tooth comb. He discovered the battery was old and if I hadn't flagged that up to Lexus straightaway, they may well have shrugged their shoulders and said it's not covered by the warranty. He also spotted something odd going on with the tyres (tracking he thought), but lexus then discovered a ride height sensor had snapped off, and someone had fitted oversize tyres. All of which they replaced without question. I think my £60 has probably saved me nearly a grand already. So my advice would be to find an independent specialist who knows about lexus cars and pay him AS WELL AS paying lexus to do the service. i never bothered too much with the lexus service, but when mine was under warranty i made a point of taking it to lexus for mot, they quite happily told me a range of faults - leaking air con pipes £1100, rear ride height sensors £800 plus other bits and pieces, then asked how i would like to pay . when i queried if the work might be covered by warranty, i wish i had got a camera to capture the face change from kerrching to oh bugger. i wonder how many faults the car would have had if they had known about the warranty first. when i bought my car from lexus it had just been serviced and had 12 months warranty. so after 12 months i had it motd by lexus, repaired foc by lexus and then had it serviced by a local independent ( just over £100). i also didnt renew the warranty as it was £880 for the year - and due to the age of the car the warranty covers very little if you read the small print Mike
  6. features/interface is exactly the same just the routes / poi etc are more up to date. i updated a 2002 ls430 disc to a 2007 and also a 2003 ls430 mk2 to a 2009 disc everything stayed the same just more up to date new discs seem to come out every18-24 months make sure you get the exact serial number of your existing disc when ordering a new one as different ls's have different types of discs. i only know this cos when i sold my 2002ls i took the 2007 updated disc out and assumed it would work in my new 2004 ls but all i got was a " disc not compatible" message hope that helps Andy - I think I might have bought your old car (dark red with 75k on the clock). If so I wouldn't mind the 2007 disk if you've still got it. I'm in Castle eden (the Old Brewery) why don't you call in and I'll buy you a coffee if you are passing. Mike not my car mike, mine was amberley gold 62000 and i part exed it in norwich, the home of lexii and alan partridge! think i still have the old disc kicking about, but have just been in hospital so am grounded for a bit. i could post it on to you though

  8. ive had 2 ls430s a 2002 and now a 2004. the early models pre 2002 you will need to get with the premium pack which is vibro seats/fridge etc 2002 onwards premium pack is included as standard if you go for the 2003 onwards facelift you get premium pack as standard, you also get ( which the earlier model does not have) reverse camera and park assist, voice recognition, improved sat nav, larger wheels( i think), 6 gears instead of 5, bluetooth, rear illuminated vanity mirrors or to put it another way gadget wise 2003 onwards facelift model is much better spec and no difference in price my 2004 is much better than my 2002 and slightly more economical too hope this helps - good luck
  9. thats great, dead handy. so does anyone know how to un-immobilise this feature?
  10. just tried to close all windows on car using key fob ( like i used to on my02 ls) by holding lock key button for 2/3 seconds and nothing happens. is this one of those settings where i need to turn on ign, open door 3 times, press menu twice, spin round on my head 3 times and whistle twice, or is it just not available on the slightly newer model?
  11. not giving any diagnostic codes and has already been back to lexus and more recently to an independent garage
  12. not getting any error codes at all. car has got full lexus service history so would expect it to have the right oil etc. when i took it back to lexus they reset the ecu and could find no fault - im assuming timing would have shown up as quite a basic check - so no further forward?
  13. this is my second 430 - this one is an 04 model - over the last few months it has developed a slight vibration on tickover, but the main problem is an intermittent fault when i put my foot down to overtake. i can hear a rattle come from the engine - which i can only describe as a pinking noise - the car doesnt take off smoothly like it should then it drops a couple of gears and starts pulling hard from about 5000rpm. so i have no power at 2000rpm then nothing until it drops 2 gears which doesnt make for a smooth ride and while the car is hesitating at 2000rpm i never know if its going to pick up and go or not - which can make overtaking a bit scary car went back to lexus whilst under warranty and they found nothing wrong and charged £60. i think all they checked was the plugs. they suggested it may be the petrol and to try to stick to one brand long enough to try and eliminate problems. my nearest branded petrol is shell and that seems to make the problem worse, supermarket fuel makes no difference and neither does total anyone any ideas????????????
  14. i am having exactly the same problem and lexus teesside couldnt sort it - even charged £60 for exploratory work which isnt covered by warranty? anyhow in order to try and solve the problem myself, how do you access the multiplug on the accelerator?
  15. i have had 2 ls430s now. an 02 and an 04. both have had rear suspension problems - the self levelling relays get waterlogged and fail resulting in the car constantly looking like it has a couple of bags of cement in the boot! both times were fixed reluctantly under lexus warranty. however if you do have to pay i was quoted £170 per relay and about the same in labour plus vat, which works out at about £750. i dont know if this is a known failure or i have just been unlucky - twice? but aside from that, these cars are brilliant - happy hunting
  16. having bought and sold a number of small businesses a good general guide for its value is.... 10x average yearly net profit( based on last 3 years) and as you own 50% it would be half that figure. then add any assets you deem to be yours - or just split those 50/50 aswell
  17. [i use directparceldelivery.com they take up to 30kg size limit of 150x60x60 and insured up to £150 included, normally delivered/collected by dhl 48hr service
  18. i had same problem is defo the battery, just needs a run/ charge. if leaving the car for a couple of weeks turn off the sensors which pick you up as you approach as these will drain the battery quite quickly. ( button is below steering column and it may also turn off the keyless door entry so you might have to use the key like in black and white times )
  19. i upgraded the sat nav dvd in my 02 ls430 for a 2006 edition as the 2002 version was a bit out of date. when i swapped cars to newer 04ls i removed disc from old car and installed in new one, thinking that an 06 disc would be better than an 04 one. well it may be better and more up to date but it doesnt work in the newer car!! has anyone else encountered this? i have now bought an 08 update which works perfectly but am still surprised the old one didnt work as the first five code numbers on the disc are the same. anyhow, problem solved (159 euros later - not sure what that is in pounds at todays rate - probably about £300!) is there any market for an 06dvd as i have looked on fleabay and there seems to be a lack of any for lexus?
  20. i had an 02 is200se and it definitely didnt have this feature. thanks for the replys, i knew someone would have an answer. the mirrors now dip after having moved the mirror position switch to the left. that was a much easier solution than i was expecting!!
  21. hi everyone. this is my first proper posting since leaving the new members area. just a quick query, i have just taken delivery of my new (to me anyway) 2004 ls430 mk2, after having had a 2002 mk1 for the last couple of years. on my mk1 when i engaged reverse the rear mirrors dipped so you could tell where the kerb was in relation to the rear wheels, which was dead handy to avoid kerbing the alloys when parking. with the new model when you engage reverse the rear camera comes on to show what is directly behind, but the mirrors dont dip to show where the back wheels are. is there a mod that can be done in the usual lexus way - ie open and shut the door three times, while pressing air con button, patting head and rubbing stomach all at the same time!! or is it a lexus dealer fix? or is it tough t*tties and get used to it? thanx - i know someone out there will know the answer
  22. aaah the wonders of tinternet. thanks for that, just waiting to pick up new ( to me anyway ) ls on friday now. maneesh - what do you think of your accord type r, i had the civic type r before my current ls
  23. looked on link but it groups all ls after 98 as one model, so am still no wiser??
