  1. .....bet it take a while to polish those wheels. Do you change them for winter? Jeff
  2. Hi. I'd like to fit a pair of clear indicator lenses on my car. I'm having difficulty finding them. I searched eBay last night but found nothing in my searches Any links/tips would be helpful. thanks. Jeff
  3. Hi. thanks to all. That pdf looks like it could be useful. As soon as the rain backs off I'll be out there with my hammer n chizzel. Jeff
  4. Hi all I'm in need of some help. My car failed it's MOT on just a mirror glass, so I need to change it. I now have a replacement glass to fit but would like some help on how I go about stripping away the painted casing and getting to the guts :) Many thanks! Jeff
  5. I was told today there is a local that can mix the paint for me into an aerosol. Could someone please tell me where the trim and color plate is located on the car? It has to be there...somewhere, often its buried behind the carpet or the like. Jeff
  6. Hi. I need to find the tag for the paint and trim codes. Could someone please tell me where on the car the tag is hidden? thanks. Jeff
  7. Hi Chaps. I just bought a set of reversing sensors for my car. They are to be fitted to the back bumper, a shade of brown. As the sensors are shiny black I would like to paint them before starting the job. I need to find the color code for the lower part of the car. Can anyone help me find the codes? thanks, Jeff
  8. Hi John. Please follow the link below. If you own a Sat Nav you can download this info as a PIO and locate your filling stations. Not that I can be sure it's accurate or up to date. Most know their own area. http://www.calor.co.uk/lpg-autogas/lpg-refuelling.html I went to this site below. It's crap. Really it is. I did a manual search on my post code. It missed 4 filling stations within a 4 mile radius of me that I know of and 2 more that are within 8 miles of me. Thats downright disapointing! Makes you wonder if it's been on purpose Which come to think of it, if it's not calor/shell it wouldn't be there I guess. http://www.autogas.ltd.uk/whereToBuyMap.htm Sainsbury. Somerfields & Morrisions also do LPG in varying degrees too and I'm sure there are more that this. Jeff
  9. Hi. No one that knows what he's talking about ever said LPG improves MPG !! Thats just not true. You would need to judge for yourself the personal value of a LPG conversion. This would depend on how much you drive and how long you'll keep the car. So, how long is a piece of string..................................................? I will also add that LPG's are sought after and will sell before a "normal" car of comparative make and model. They also hold their value better too. Most conversions are put on cars within the first few years of a cars life. All I've read about LPG (loads n loads) say that it takes about 3 years to get your money back on a conversion. I might agree that putting a LPG on an older car might not be the best idea because of the age of the car and its market value. You you can fit it yourself if you are brave enough and save on the labour costs if you want to. A sequential system front to back for an 8 cylinder is about £750+/- as far as I know. Volvo, Ford and Vauxhall that I know can all be delivered as new with factory fitted LPG. Jeff Payback depends on your milage but also depends on what consumption your car does. A car that averages 20mpg will payback twice as quick as a car that averages 40mpg assuming the same milage. I paid for my conversion on my LS430 and cost £1800 and do about 12,000 miles a year. So far in the past 2.5 months I have averaged 33 mpg equivalent, factoring in the petrol I use as well. I do very short journeys during the week barely enough to get onto LPG. My previous car a 2.2ltr Diesel Primera used to average 27mpg for the same kind of driving. On a run I estimate I will get about 50mpg equivalent, wheras my Primera used to do about 42mpg when driven like 'miss daisy'. I haven't done a full 'run' yet on gas so its hard to judge exactly what MPG I can get. I'm going to France in August so I will have a record of 870 miles each way on LPG to give me a better idea of the true MPG but even then I will be fully loaded, 4 up and with a roof box and probably air con so even that won't be a true reflection. For me its a no brainer, even without factoring in the increased saleability. Hey Sparky. Don't forget you'll need a gun converter for France. If you go into Belgium & Holland you'll need another gun converter again. (it the same gun converter for Belgium & Holland) You'll find these on eBay. Jeff
  10. :) Job done! Phew :) I did get them into this site but they were cut down and looked bad so I put them on Picasa http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/herenthere0/MyLexus# Jeff
  11. First, upload your picture to one of the common pic hosters (e. g. www.imageshack.us). I. e. your pic must be on the net. Then get the pic's URL (right-click on the pic: Copy image address). Then write your post here, and click on the "sunset" icon above. A small input window opens. Paste the pic's URL into it. Click OK - et voilà. Click on the Preview button to check if the picture comes through. There must be a sticky note in the General section on how to post pics, right? Thanks!
  12. If you must use spacers, don't use those, use hubcentric spacers which have a spigot to locate the wheel, and fit spigot rings if required. The wheel should locate on the hub, as designed by Toyota, it should not be located only by the studs. No, no they were just an example. The ones on my car now are Eibachs. They are hub centric with a 60mm bore. Jeff
  13. Bladeboy. New alloys just like the LPG on my car don't affect my premium. I spoke to my insurance co and they wern't bothered. I got some new quotes and the best ones still came in under £400 fully comp & protected NCB.
  14. It's true what the bloke said on the phone. "Fitting new alloys to a LS400 is a pain in the butt". The issue is the front wheel callipers. They are bloody huge! I learnt this yesterday first hand when I drove to the shop, chose my wheels and then tried to fit them onto the car. We knocked off my right front right wheel in the bay. Tried to fit with a regular 5mm spacer and lightly tightened the wheel nuts and tried to turn the wheel. No way would it move. The wheel had locked onto the caliper. This means that practically any wheel you are going to want won't fit. Well it will, but it's going to cost you a bit more. About £100 more in fact because you are going to need a wheel hub adapter to offset the wheel. These are used to push the wheel out beyond the calliper. I could have got by with a 10mm spacer, but all I could find was 15 up to 60mm. So 15 will have to do. To add to the cost (just for fun, moan, splutter) I figure, I'll have to set up the front wheel geometry too because the offset. Jeff Here's an example of what one of these hub adapters looks like. You'll see the adapter is bolted to the original studs and the wheel is bolted to the new adapter. http://www.ezaccessory.com/PhotoGallery.as...ode=5450%2D5450

  16. ....and at 54p at BP stations (always dearest) here in Kent that makes a full tank 30 quid. I'd say the numbers stack up quite well and think a 37mpg is really good for such a large car. No complaints at all really. Jeff
  17. Hi. They say that Autogas doesn’t give the MPG return as petrol as it's not quite as efficient but at around 50p/lt I can enjoy the car without worrying about consumption. I filled up the petrol tank around Christmas time and I’m down to about ¼ tank! http://www.flogas.co.uk/autogas/faq/ Jeff
  18. Hi Kroebje. You are right I would not go for the cheapest of the cheap either. After talking to sales people in a more than few tyre shops quite a few seem to favour the Dutch tyre Vredestien Ultratrac Sessanta. The Sportrac 3 caught my eye in the reviews at first but they only go to 17". Jeff
  19. Hi kroebje. Those rims look great. Nice rims can really lift a car. Yea the rubber don't come cheap. Those tyre makers must be making a killing for sure. I've dug deep into this subject now for my choice of tires. I never meant to. I just seem to have wandered onto a knowledge path about a subject I knew very little about. This is because I needed to make an informed decision. I've come to the conclusion that much of the hype of the "Premium brand” tyres is a bunch of crap and little more than just sales retric. Dig deep into this site (below) and you'll see what I mean. Top brands trashed by folks that have paid top dollar for a "top rated"? product. Some totally disappointed. Like with many other things we tend to buy and pay more because we recognise a brand name. Rarely do we stop to think if we are really are getting a better product, but because we know the name paying more seems ok. In my life experience the answer to that is often times we do not get a better product at all and I feel sure the same applies here to great extent. It's true sometimes we do get a better product because we pay more but I am totally convinced that this is far from the case with tyres. This review site clearly shows this. Also with tyres, so many factors apply that can influence an opinion, but many of the reviews do seem quite "savvy". I've also come to understand that while some tyres don't suit some cars they might do better on others. On my Lex right now I have Avon ZV3's. When I spoke to a bloke in a tyre shop on the phone the other day he totally trashed my Avons. He mumbled on about how Avon are a rubbish brand on par with the budget tyres and way down the list of "quality" tyres. I got a just a little upset at him and told him they work really well as a 225/60/16 fitted to my car. I guess it was at that time I realised he just wanted to sell me the most expensive rubber he could. Well just my 50cents worth! 20. hi. thats it I dont want the belly of the car to drag n the road. well there is a balance but.. I need to to keep to a profile that'll work. On an 18" I'm looking at 245 or 255/45/18 that''ll keep the rolling radius to about right with the speedo. Proberbly about the same diamentions with a 19". I just need to know if it'll fit. Yea, I've seen some nice rims on IS series car's. It's more of a young persons car. Old codgers tend not to pimp their rides :) Jeff
  21. hi. We are talking about consumption. nothing to do with money. Jeff
  22. Hi. There is a lot of chat here about fuel consumption. So, just to see how my car would do on a long run on LPG to europe I gassed up in Dover and zeroed the trip meter. I ran my gas tank dry until the alarm sounded and the car switched over to petrol. Then I noted my milage. I drove mostly at 80+mph through the night with the AC on some of the time. When I filled up my 80lt tank. I got into the tank from empty 56lt of gas and I had driven exactly 230 miles . Now who's the brainiak that'll work out the MPG on that run? Jeff
