  1. Hi. i'm in the middle of tyres and rims! There is a lot to choose from. I was wondering if there is anyone here that have put 19" rims on their cars. For the little extra from 18"'s it's doable price wise but will they fit ok? I've seen a lot of Golfs and other cars with 19's on them so I'm guessing 19's on a lex would be ok, but I'd sure like to talk to someone thats knows for sure! Jeff
  2. Hi. i'm looking into changing my wheels and tyres. While surfing around trying to get to grips with this science which is new for me I discovered a site with a great lill app that'll help get the correct wheel/size. http://www.etyres.co.uk/tyre-size-calculator.htm I'm editing this post because I found a site that'll allow you to calulate the diff in speed mixing and matching wheels and tyres will make to the speed of the car. I'm also posting my findings. I hope it'll be of interest to someone. My original size: 225/60/16 speed rating W load 97 Options: 255/55/17 diff in diameter 1.42% too slow @60 real 60.9 255/50/17 “ “ 2.14% too fast @60 real 58.7 225/55/17 “ “ 3.2% too fast @60 real 58.1 225/50/17 “ “ 6.4% too fast @60 real 56.2 235/55/17 “ “ 1.6% too fast @60 real 59 245/55/17 “ “ 0.1% too fast @60 real 60 225/50/18 “ “ 2.8% too fast @60 real 58.3 235/50/18 “ “ 1.4% too fast @60 real 59.2 Naturally there will be other size options not listed above. info source: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html Jeff
  3. Hi. My car is always in power up mode so I have "the force" if I need it. My car runs on LPG and at 51p/lt I don't care much about the little extra gas it might demand. It's much the same as sport mode on other automatic cars I've had. Using the power switch will have the car shift down much earlier, so a full "kick down" to the floor isn't nessessery. I can, just by feel change down a gear or two. This gives instant power and the car will hold the gear for as long as you want. If you don't let up on the gas it'll happily pull all the way to the red line. In Eco mode the car will not do this. It'll change as it wants and will never rev all out through the gears but it will reach top speed. The car will just take longer to get there. Jeff
  4. Hi and thanks to all respondents. Interesting about the sizing. Looks like a bit of a maze when you start mixing sizes and profiles. I always thought the wheels on this year model let the car down badly making the car look heavy and drab. If someone reading this thread has a set of wheels, tyres or both, please drop me a line. Thanks Jeff
  5. Hi. No doubt about it. My wheels are in a mess. I've been looking around at wheels on the net. I have now discovered the tyre\wheel size. My first question is.. how can I be sure the wheels that I buy...perhaps second-hand ...will fit the car? I'm thinking here about the studs. I've discovered that I need 225, 60, R16, 97, W/7.5j's, but as far as I know that has no bearing on the "fitting of the wheel" So is there a way to be sure of a certain wheel fitting my car? Also, what are the different possibilities with regards to sizing. Can i go up in any sizes? Can I help make my car drive around corners instead of navigating corners like a P&O ferry? Of course I understand that I can’t expect too much, but as the man from Tesco’s says. Every little helps! Thanks Jeff
  6. Hi. I got home about midnight last night locked the car and hit the sack. After about 10 mins or so the alarm went off. I ran out thinking someone was messing with my car but no one was. Ok, I unlocked and locked and went back to bed. 45 mins later the bloody thing went off again. I did as before and all was silent on my street. An hour later off we go again This time I started the car, switched it off and all was well... that is until about 7 this morning! It gone off a couple of times since then too. What can do about this? Can it be disconnected by taking off the wires to the both horn? and siren? I couldn't give a stuff about the alarm if it works or not, I just want peace in my life and so do my neighbours. What would happen if I disconnect the battery thought the night? Will the car still run properly when I reconnect it? Phew! Thanks for all ya help. Jeff
