  1. It's a myth that LPG gives better fuel consumption. It dosen't. Quite the reverse but not by much. in fact gas is not as efficient as petrol, which is why any LPG will switch to petrol at about 120-125mph. After a while I'd know when it was about to change over. I could feel it. Snaps
  2. Yea, yea, on the track it's all good. We're not on the track. Right? Get it? Good!
  3. Hi. After wrecking my 400, I'm now looking at 430's. I might be doing a deal on Saturday for a 03 car and would like to know where all the VIN plates are positioned on the car so I can be sure the car is the real deal. I'd think there would be 2 or even 3 of them stamped onto the car in different places. Don't want the plod taking my new car away now do we Thanks guys, Snaps
  4. Hi. Zavoli are a top brand if not the leaders in LPG. I had a Zav kit on my old Pug 406 and it was great. To be truthful I dont think there is much of a diff in quality between the manufactures. Most systems are Italian. I think Stag is Dutch tho. The Pols in South Wales have a solid reputation. I called a while back and spoke with a bloke called Andy. During our chat I made him repeat the price 5 or 6 times just to make sure there was no language misunderstanding. There wasnt. Here in the London yr looking at ££$$ 2,200k + for a conv on an 8 cyl. LPG conv is a great investment and well spent money IMHO. I'd rather pay up front than have the pain of paying for petrol at ever increasing prices. You will also sell you car easier with gas conv. on it too. PS. Dont forget to buy the gun converters if yr off to Europe!!!! ... or youll be proper stuffed Happy gassin Snaps
  5. Hi Steve. Yea I walked away unhurt. Shaken but not too stired. Its due to the big car size that I did. the shell kept its shape and even with that awmighty whack both the rear doors opened and closed proper. The arsss end hit a tree square on at about 80 down in a ditch. The LPG tank had hardly a mark on it and it must av taken a almighty wollop right there in the weel well. Even after the car started and the wheels turned. My very expensive camera gear and my large laptop that was at the back off the boot buy the rear seats came out unblemished. I'm trying to upload some pix but havent a clue how to, the help on here aint no bloody help at all :) I know heres my picco link. use that. http://picasaweb.google.com/herenthere0 So far no 430 owners with any fb. Pity. All my mates are telling me to wise up and go for a front wheel drive car - but I just lvu these wonderful cars. It's just a pity they're crap in anything else other than sunshine. Well the 400's at least. I'm hoping the 430's are betta. Snaps
  6. Hi. I am interested to know how the 430's perform in the wet. My 400 slid around like a looney and coming too fast into a roundabout or cornor in the wet would always put you into a rear wheel slide and if you wern't quick it could be very unforgiving. This happened to me and it finally got the better of me when I did an 80mph spin off into trees and totalled wrecked my 400 last Friday night in the wet. I has no traction control on my 97 model and i would never have one of that age again. So I'm wondering if the 430 is a better car in the worst of conditions. Tail slides is something very "rear wheel drive" and I know even the cabbies that drive Mercs stay at home when it snows. My 400 was all over the place last year in the snow and I'm wondering if I really want another rear wheel drive car. So I'd be really interested to know what 430 owners think about this. Doses the rear end kick out if you come a bit quick into a cornor or roundabout if you push it in the wet? How's the car in the snow. Can you keep it in a stright line or is the rear all o ver the road? Thanks for your fb, Jeffo
  7. I could sell them to you for £200 + :o or you can try these guys :) http://www.sgs-engineering.com/pages/strutsearch/make/lexus/range/LS400 Thanks alot. Jeff
  8. Hi all. i seem to spend a good bit of time looking for spares when i need them. Luckly my cars been great. I need to replace the gas dampers that hold up the bonnet. Just now I have to use the mop :-)to stop myself from being decapitated. Does anyone know where I'd find 'em? thanks. Jeff
  9. Hi all. As an LPG driver i can say that BP are allways the most expensive. Nomatter where you live! they are selling my gas at a whopping 69p ! Now, gas has just about allways followed petrol by half. Not any more according to BP. Simply put, BP are greedy barstewards and i avoid them like the plauge. I even drive more to gas up elseware! It's the pricipal as well as the pennies for me. Jeff
  10. Hi John. Thanks for that. Jeff Jeff It is a model variant. I've got one of the first LS430s with the metal finish round the gear leaver and the 5 speed gearbox. I think they introduced the wood surround with the first 'face lift' when they also introduced the 6 speed gearbox and swivelling headlights. Don't be put off the early cars, I've heard the early and late cars from the LS430 production run are the most reliable, and mine has been fine. Be careful trying to fit a wood surround from a later car to an early model the change of gearbox may mean it won't fit, unless anybody knows different? The early cars came with 17" wheels, and they changed to 18" at the first 'face lift'. All UK LS430s have self levelling air suspension. I believe when it was first introduced the 'lux' pack with the radio and air con controls in the rear arm rest and 'massaging' rear seats was an option, but when only 10% of customers bought it without the option they made it standard. If you find one without it will be rare. All versions of the car are good; just buy the best you can afford. Best of luck. John N
  11. Hi. I’m looking for a little advice. I hope someone can help me out with some answers. I’m looking for a 430 or around 01/02 year model. In my hunt for a car I’ve noticed that some of the cars are “missing” the wood piece around the gearshift which has just a metal finish. Is this a model variant or some option? Is it available if I find a car that doesn’t have that. What might it cost? Is it possible to fit wheels from a 400 onto a 430? Do all 430’s have air shox? How do recognise the different packages that were offered? If there is anyone reading this that might be interested. I have a gold, 400 '97 @97.000 with LPG with special wheels. Immaculate & stunning car. Message me if you're interested. Thanks to all, Jeff
  12. Dunno sorry. Whatever it is, it's too much. :D Are u lookin at droppin it down a bit then like I am? Jeff
  13. hi. I've done some searches but I can't find the thead. would you have an idea what the topic was, this would help. thanks, Jeff
  14. Hi John. Yea, something like that what I'm looking for. Jeff
  15. Hi. what about it? I don't think I'll be fitting original Lex parts if that's what you mean. I want to improve handling the of car. So I wont fit the same rubbish again. thanks. Jeff
  16. Hi. does anyone know if modified/upgraded (stiffer= better handing) suspention parts are available for the LS400's? Any URL's would be appreciated. Perhaps from the US direct is an option? Thanks, Jeff
  17. Hi. This is correct. The boot lid should just pop up. There are no powerful springs there to pull it all the way up. Jeff I think I remember reading somewhere that the boot on the LS (all models) is designed to only pop open an inch or so, rather than all the way. This is so your luggage doesn't get too wet if it's raining. Jon
  18. I totally agree. Uninsured drivers cause so much misery. A fixed, automatic sentence of 6 month in the slammer plus fines. We don't em out there. Jeff
  19. hi. I'm sorry to hear about this. I'd be gutted if it happened to me. also, and worst of all it hits your insurance premium which is really sad or if you fix it yourself your still out of pocket. I think the bottom line is to have the Police attend no matter what. Still if the driver is uninsured it prob wouldn't make your situation any better but you'd get the satisfaction of seeing the SOB carted off by the bill. A small consolation but still ..... Jeff
  20. Hi. Fitting bigger wheels to a LS400 can be bit of a hassle. This is because the front caliper is so big/wide it pushes out the wheel. so your first task is to find a wheel that is "deep" enough to fit over the caliper. failing that... I had to fit a 15mm spacer to get my rims to fit, also we needed to fit extended wheel bolts to match the extra 15mm. So you'll need to keep this in mind. Take a look at my car. It'll give you an idea of how yours might look with the same sizes. I don't think you really want to lower the profile more than 45 because you'd be dragging your butt, especially over speed bumps which the LS don't like anyhow. And I think going up to a 19" rim would maybe get the front tyre to go into the inner wing on full wheel lock. My tyre size is 18X245X45 http://picasaweb.google.com/herenthere0/LexusLS400# Hope this helps. Jeff
