  1. Are there any nicks or bends in any of the antenna sections that are causing it to jam? If not, might be worth opening it up too just in case part of the cord has snapped off and is jamming the rewind before it is fully retracted. The tutorial I did here might help ----> click

I read your tutorial last night Tigerfish. Really useful, I, for one, find your tutorials really helpful. Thanks mate

  2. Guy's,

Done a search and found out how to remove the aerial and replace the cord but my problem is a little different. My aerial works, goes up and down with the headunit turned on or off. The problem is that it never retracts fully into it's sleeve. So, there is always 15 cm or so left up?

Is there any quick fixes with this, has anyone ever had a similar problem, if so, what did you do?

    Cheers,

    Phil

  3. Hi osteo66,

    Interesting read that, thanks.

I did notice that you said the discs were worn though? Have these been replaced while you were re-furbing the caliper? I replaced the discs and pads on my Mk1 about two months ago and this removed the steering wheel wobble on this one completely. Having now done this on both the mk1 & mk2, that both suffering from the dreaded wobble. I am pretty satisfied that the issue is resolved for now!

It is weird that the wobble/clunking is such a common problem and has been for a number of years, yet it seems, no-one, has a definitive answer, how strange?

  4. I'm like you. Love to keep the car looking good. In fact, I am anal about it!

When I'm washing/polishing mine, I'm even thinking about the weather forecast for the day's ahead - the longer the dry period, the longer my car will look good. I think it has something to do with the effort that is put in making it look good? Funnily enough, it helps me relax?

Anyways, like the sound of that liquid clay, I have clay bar'd mine recently and the results are great. Even more so after applying a wax afterward. I believe that you should - bar it, polish it, wax it, then seal it. I am looking into products and reviews in a car cleaning forum at the moment. Will be doing this in the near future.....

Did you take any pics? If so, get them posted.....

    Cheers

  5. Yep, remove the insert if you like, then pull the whole thing out, just get a firm grip! lol

I would not like to comment on getting under the gear selector as I have never needed to get this bit out. Usually though, there are screws to remove from the centre console storage box. Under the lining. The rest of it looks pretty much like it is pop-out!

    Cheers and good luck

  6. I'm not sure if either full silver or black actually exists, but aido has a special black chrome grille on his aristo - perhaps something like that might be cool?

All chrome is something you can actually do yourself - unusually the Lexus grilles are actually chrome underneath so if you strip the top coating using acetone (i think) the grille will be chrome underneath. Have a search if you're interested as there is a member who did this to their GS (maybe someone can remember who it was)

Why don't you get the sport one, with black mesh in it? You can paint the surround of it whatever colour you like, black/silver. I'll post a picture of one later if you like?

PS - Is that a ghost in the window? Spooky, lol.

  7. Now sorted.

There was two sets of cables (purple white black - if I recall correctly) with a load of connectors within them. These were tucked away to the left of the cavity where the head unit fits. There were two black connectors, one male and one female. Plugged one into the other and hey presto, sound from the front speakers.

  8. Hi Guys,

I have searched all over for this information to no avail, I wonder if someone on here can help??

My car was fitted with (lexus) parking sensors by the previous owner, the back ones work OK, they operate with Reverse gear selector.

The front ones are on all the time and are really loud, they can be switched off by a switch in the centre console (fortunately).

I read somewhere that it is normal to have the front parking sensors working with the brakes, but I can't get to the sounder or wiring as it is hidden under the centre console.

I just need to get to the front part under the gear selector.

My car is an 04 plate GS300 SE, it does not have sat nav, but has the Mark Levinson ICE, whilst I am at it, does anyone have the pinout of the ML amplifier? It has a socket without a plug in it, wondered if this was for a phone setup??

    Thanks in advance

    Nigel

    Hi Nigel,

    I have a Mk2 gs300 - year 2000 - I believe it will be the same.

The ashtray simply pulls out, grab it and pull it (lol). It will pop out, trust me, there will be no damage. Next, remove the air vents at the top. To do this get a cloth and a biggish flat head screw driver. Wrap the cloth over the end of the screw driver and use this to prise this out. Do one end, then the other, again, this simply pops out. Take care not to damage the dash while prising it out.

The heater and headunit are one unit. There are two bolt head screws at the top and two at the bottom, the top ones are shiney goldy colour, the bottom ones (under the stereo unit) are black. Un-screw these with a socket (and remove) and the head unit/heater control block can be pulled out easily.

Fitting it back is a reversal of the above. Its quite simple mate, don't worry! :)

    Cheers

  9. Hi guy's,

Just got my head unit back from being re-furbed, new lcd display and to fix a fault - did not power up. Anyway, so I gets it out, plugs it in, bolts it in, and finally enter the security code - at that moment in time, very happy and in a good mood.........

Entered the code ........ ONLY TO FIND THAT ONLY THE REAR SPEAKERS PRODUCE ANY SOUND!

Tried the fader, to no avail.

Before I get on the phone and start moaning, anyone with any experience before with this or any suggestions for me to try over the weekend???? Obviously I will remove it again and plug the plugs in once more....

    Cheers guy's

  10. result mate, however we were not so lucky with out gs300sport mk1

it has the same symptoms as ure mk2 but had the front discs and pads changed for genuine lex but still continues.

any advice on what we can do?

Unfortunately, I do not have any answers for you! :-(

All that's left I suppose is to

(a ) Check the torque on the wheel nuts?

(b ) Check upper wishbones / lower ball joints

    (c ) Check wheel balances

    (d ) Check tyre pressures

(e ) Have the new discs checked for buckles

(f ) Check the pistons on the calipers

Have you tried jacking the car and spinning the wheels - listening for contact/rubbing?

    Sorry mate

  11. phil to be honest i have not noticed any more power / poke...remeber its only cat back system...so cat and other front pipes are still standard..

and to be honest i have not had chance to take it on big road and floor it ...

i believe you only get more poke when you remove cat...i'll try it on big road some time and will let you know...

    :)

    AJ

AJ - I think the change to the silencers should increase power slightly, so long as they are free'er flowing than the originals. I am not positive about this, but the rule certainly works on motorbikes! :)

  12. I had new discs fitted today to my MK2 GS300 (bought from Big Den - cheers Den :) )

Why did I have these fitted?

    Symptoms

    - Wheel wobble during braking - sporadic, not always present - strange but true!

    - Occasional clonking noise from near-side caliper under braking

    - Wheel wobble at speed 60 - 70 mph it became very noticeable, but always there slightly

    - Sometimes thought that the wheels needed balancing - bumpy and wobbly at speed

    - Feedback through steering wheel rather annoying

    Cure

    - New discs and pads put on

    - Calipers cleaned & greased

    - Wheel nuts tightened to 103 Nm

Now there is zero wobble when braking, zero wobble or bumpiness at speed and all is cool :) Driving home was mixture of slow 10-20 mph & 70-80 mph, lots of braking. Nothing so far. Let's see how long this lasts (fingers crossed)

    Phil
