  1. I found getting the key apart was the hardest and the screw is difficult so I agree Carefully goes. Memory not a problem (well not the key anyway) The batteries are nowt speacil and can be bought at watch shops but my local little motorist shop stocks them as well. What I find frustrating is that the key sometimes doesnt work for no reason (normally raining) anybody else have this problem? and is there any way of making the indicators flash like newer cars so that I can see it happens rather than listen for the click or try the handel?
  2. Hello jac114, you can safely leave your overdrive on all the time, the gubbins in the box will not let it work unless the speed etc is correct, a bit like the old days (I know Im an oldie) the over drives would only work on 3rd and 4th gear on manual boxes and only when the speed was right. The advantage is that it keeps the revs down (higher gear) thus safes fuel, I dont hang about and generally get between 27 and 30. (GS300 1995) If you switch into power mode it automatically knocks off the overdrive anyway, although the light doesnt tell you that. ps how did you get on with the handbrake? dlj
  3. :D Ive got somethin useful (at last) Somebody is bound to say Im wrong but when I got my GS300 the handbrake pads where worn and I had to replace them. I thought that they where self adjusting but even if they are they need to be set up manually by using a screwdriver through the hole in the drum first (the hole might or should have a bung in it), the adjuster (knurled knob) is at the bottom and can be turned quite easily. I tightened it up and then backed it off until the wheel spun freely. took it for a run and did it again. Result the hand or should I say footbrake actually worked which it didnt when I bought it. Considering the garage put a new MOT on it, makes you wonder does it not?
  4. I like the bit bout Halfords **** but only said that I thought that they where there, but these actually look pretty good, I think the stores are called A1 lots of them in South Essex but these LCDs must be all over the place. PS if you want touch up sprays you can get that in Halfords mixed for you, try and get that at Lexus! Will look at the others mentioned though, always willing to learn, have to at my age!
  5. :D Hello Everbody, nice day, Ive sorted the repeater indicator lights, my local store does LED repeaters in a variety of colours, I went for black, they look cool! They are oval and stick on, they are big enough to cover the hole and plug in to the extisting fitting although the earlier ones have to be connected but not difficult. Cost me £19.99. I think that Ive seen them in halfords. Hope this helps (GS300) Derek J
  6. Thanks Mat, ps found out how to take the radio out if anybody wants to know its quite easy, honest!!!!! Derek
  7. :iraqi-info-minister: Well Ive sorted the problem, in one way pleased but!!! Managed to source a second hand head unit, ok he thought, changed it all but left a tape in so reconnected and lo and behold the old radio worked perfectly! I guess disconecting did the trick by resetting the unit. SO does anyone need a relacement head unit? I paid £120 let it go for a oner. Answers on a postcard oh oh.
  8. :D Hi Everbody, Having only recently joined I really find this site interesting and extremely useful, what a happy bunch! With regards to mileage Ive recently gone from Essex to Oxford to Torquay and back and averaged 30mpg (1995 GS300) and was not hanging about, so I thought that this was pretty good, around town it seems to be about 25 which again seems not bad. My only problem is the post Ive made about the radio, I reckon it needs attention, does anyone know someone in the Essex area that would be able to look at it? Keep up the good work
  9. Thanks Duncan but I dont think thats the problem, the aerial seems to have more wires than the national grid, there is a wire with a screw connector which is taped to the aerial wiring but nothing to connect it too. On reflection (Ive only had the car a couple of weeks) the RDS/TI info worked when I first got it because I had to adjust the TI volume. What appears to be happening now is that the radio does not recognise RDS Stations although the presets are still showing the station name but will not recognise when looking for new etc. So unless there is something to press ie reset or whatever, it looks like a defect and I need an Engineer. How do I get the radio out or any bright ideas? In anticipation thanks for anybodies help.
  10. Ive just got a GS300 and am confused regarding the tuning of the radio. It says RDS and will indicate the name of the station but when I use the auti tune, or manual come to that it doesnt. And when switching to NF ot TI it starts to tune and keeps doing it. What am I doing wrong?
  11. Hello all, Im a new member and have read the posts with interest, with regards to this one, I was surprised at the revs on start, it dont seem right but Lexus (*** bless em) say it is, and other owners seem to have the same issue. It seems odd that it cant be adjusted down. It obviously relates to temperature, but no adjustment? Does any body know how to adjust???????pretty please DLJ
