  1. i am surprised at that, i just replaced mine on a GS 300 and it was easy as..........got the ariel off e bay shipped to portugal for less than 15quid
  2. i just drove through france twice a week ago............through portugal, then spain to san sebastian and then through to calais and back. I saw a couple in spain and one other than mine in france on all the big sensible roads in france the drive was great, spain was more enjoyable though.............i have to say i noticed quite a few audi a5 and a6s through most of the journey including a fair few in france. . .
  3. we were at one time...i thought there was 1 more now, but could be wrong..................if i lived closer to spain it would be handy as there its only 97 cents a litre .
  4. Yeh, i live in cascais near lisbon theres a few 200s about, less 300s and even less 400s...........few more 4x4s i have never seen another mk1 gs300, or mk2 for that matter petrol sine de regulation jumped up massively at one time last year it was most expensive in europe
  5. That would probably work although the concealment afterwards might be tricky, worth a try though. i will look in to it a bit more...........make sure it will not show or can be covered up well enough......or disguised in some way .
  6. well it certainly had the rear number plate square, so yeh possibly..........maybe they tightened the suspension up for the uk market, i remember mine handling well
  7. I had my first LS400 in 1991 a G reg , it seemed to have a lot more features than some of the later models the rear number plate area was the old square shape, the later ones had a normal shaped i saw another LS400 with the next consecutive number on the plate theirs was the dark green, mine was mica red any ideas on the changes to this model..........it was very well equipped even by todays standards
  8. just wondering if a small self tapping screw would clamp it back ok then filler over the top and paint to finish just tried tape over the gap and it reduces the wind noise
  9. i guess thats a possibility, though the old one didnt look to jagged like it had left a bit there, i can live with it at the moment, when i get a chance to get at the complete unit i will have a go and clear it out cheers for the link will be V helpfull
  10. i just got a new ariel from e bay and fitted it as per instructions...........supprisingly easy, thanks to info from here any way the problem i have is that at the very bottom of the arial dropping it dos not fully close, is it something that happens with replaced arials or have i done something a little wrong it all fits together elsewhere ok
  11. thanks, sounds exactly like mine..............well i am not bringing car back to uk until feb now, so i guess i will have to live with it...........maybe i will just smear some mastic into the gap and hope that cuts the wind noise a little...........i just dont want it to get any worse .
  12. right, i have recently come back from a 3000 mile drive across europe and back and wehilst on route, i was aware of wind noise frrom drivers door side once back and upon inspection it appears to be coming from the black door trim coming away slightly at the top...........it may have been an attempt at breaking in, what i would like to know is can the surrund be removed and re bent in to hape or maybe just fill the gap and paint it can the trim be bought reasonably
  13. I have a mk1 gs 300 sport....... and I have to drive across europe in 3 days time (portugal to england) and a fair bit this time will be in the dark can i just put on a set of 100w blue bulbs will it improve my view significantly.............or just not bother should i put in main beam bulbs the same are the bulbs from a local "supermarket / motor factor" ok or are they special fittings will i need to upgrade the fuse i dont have much time to do it so just want an easy litle 5 or 10 minute job thanks
  14. bought my mk1 about 6 months ago new pads cheap enough new rear boxes again cheap enough and 2 new tyres when i bought it i use it daley and have run it back and forwrd from portugal a couple of times......and again 2 times in a week soon i have the sport and on bumpy roads it can be a bit hard, but apart from that i love it...........i prefer the shape of this one to the mk 2
  15. is that origional rear box i tried a search on e bay and couldnt find anything................what should search be i can get shipped to UK address and get friend to bring it over just found this, it looks right http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LEXUS-GS300-3-0-S-SE...id=p3286.c0.m14 Yup, that's the one. thanks i bought the pair...so will change both.....atleast will keep them even and the other is probably due to fail soon it looks quite a straight forward fit do you know if the tailpipes from the origional boxes will fit easily there is one for a mk 2 advertised on e bay, but its only one what other non standard tail pipe cover would fit . The original trims should fit but it all depends how easily they come off. If they are stuck solid, any damage or mishaping of the trim will make it more difficult to re-fit. Any aftermarket trims will fit if they are the correct diameter. They just have a habit of rusting more and looking naff after a while. You generally get what you pay for on that score, mega cheap and they will more than likely look cr*p after a fairly short time. Fitting the back box is easy enough, although you will probably need new bolts, and maybe a gasket (or some exhaust sealing paste as an alternative). luckily i got the 2 rear boxes as, on inspection , the other was more corroded than it looked i managed to sheer 2 bolts taking them off but had some on hand so that was ok the pipe knocked off ok on one and think the other will come off ok too, so a little polish up first and .....nicely all sorted thanks for the info .
  16. Be aware that the DIY kits aren't designed for a full re-gas, just a top-up. Plus if there's a leak then you've wasted your money. A professional re-gas will spot the leak before they put any expensive R-134a in there and don't cost much more than the DIY option anyway. thanks i just had a check and TBH cost of DIY gas and a pro re gas......i am going to get it done properly, also as you say they should find out re any leaks etc .
  17. great info thanks i may try the DIY method if its cheaper, if theres a leak i can then inform the company and make sure they check for leaks its always a bit odd here.......many cars have AC fitted so the companies should be used to it.............anyway thanks .
  18. i have had my mk 1 for about 5 months now the air conditioning doesnt work for cold......its ok to heat, but with the control on 16c lowest setting its still warm air i am hoping it just needs refilling if thats all it is, is it an expensive job on a car, and how long does it take..............i know to top up a fridge is easy enough if you have the gas.....but no idea with cars there are no strange sounds or anything and the fans etc work fine is it just likely to be gas in the engine bay theres a little black top on a pipe comeing from, what looks like the a c piping, is that anything to do with it at all .

  22. does any one know if theres another toyota exhaust box that fits the mk 1 300 sport i live in portugal and wont be back in uk until september and my rear right hand box has come away from the tube i am pretty sure it isnt really possible to repair until i get back to uk and as the old lexus models where never imported in to the country i am pretty sure it will be majorly expensive to get one in alternatively is there a way of buying a rear box in uk and getting it shipped directly.................it looks pretty simple to fix maybe its psossible to get a cheap (non lexus) back box from a supplier here
  23. wheres that then ?? and what does it do Not terribly exciting I'm afraid and you've probably found it without realising. On the wiper stalk is a rotary stictch which alters the parking height of the wipers. The idea being that in winter you set them to park higher so that they will be defrosted on the part of the widscreen hit by the demisters inside. On the lower level, they are under the bonnet line and would take longer to thaw out. gotcha didnt notice..........going to look now
  24. wheres that then ?? and what does it do i suddenly figured about the oil it has been 30 degrees for the last month or two.............so guessing oil is thinner (maybe)
