  1. ahhh, well on one of my lists of "to do" was to replace all the spark plugs..

    What fun that was...

On spark plug number 5 (two in from fire wall) the twin electrodes were bent in, as if someone had been too short to reach to the back of the engine and just dropped the plug into the hole, the electrode was touching

new plug on right old on left

since the initial run it seems to be running better than ever... plus the denso code was slightly different on the ones removed...

also all plugs were not tightened to the 18 nm torque, more like 13nm.... where as 13ftlb is 18nm... wonder if the installer missread?

  2. Hmmmm bikes :D

Not ridden one for a while, but still get the tingling feeling when the subject comes up.

Pass your bike test cos you will defo want something a bit quicker eventually :winky:

Problem is that tingling sensation never goes away.. but it does lead to more bikes...

Got 4 of the things now, the ZX12R, Yamaha R6, GSXR 750 (1987) and a bandit 600 fighter...

  3. at least its not as bad as it used to be, if you didnt pass your CBT within 2 years you had to wait one year before resitting if you hadnt passed your full test!

You other option is to pay a few quid more and spend the first day doing a CBT, another day doing bike test training and do an automatic licence... will mean that you will never have to sit another cbt again.

I just re-took my full motorbike test at the end of feb, after passing 8 years ago it turned out the dvla fooked up and gave me the wrong class.. a restricted 78 (automatic) even though i took my test restricted full (taken when under 21 years old on a 125cc geared bike... they buggered up and put me down as a restricted automatic!!! grrrr..

They were little or no help and meant that it was quicker to re-take test than to wait for them to go to a panel (up to 18 weeks wait)..to see if they would award me the licence back (as the only keep paperwork for 6 years, there was no paper evidence of me passing on a geared bike)

Worst thing is that i have been riding big cc geared bikes since 2000 (including for the last 18 months a Kawasaki ZX12R...) ... and at ant point could have been prosecuted for riding without the correct licence... even though they typed in the wrong box when issuing!!

  4. Great place in Gillingham Kent called Lepsons. They do a same day turnaround I believe.

For quite a hefty price as well... over £90 a wheel i believe... if not more... cheaper to buy new rims with less waiting.. lol.

We use them all the time at work as we dispose all of their tyres for them. a wheel sent in is turned around in 5-7 days for about £50

  5. Well im a little confused... once in every while when starting the car the dash displays the following:

    DSC01845.jpg

Now the car then goes into a safe mode where it wont accelerate hard at all, on one occasion it happened about 10 seconds after pulling away, 3 of the 5 occasions have been in blue water carpark! not sure if there is a correlation there or just co-incidence.

This is giving me the arse, but it does go away after turning off the car and re-starting it. so im assuming its a faulty sensor that is giving a bad reading but which one?

The car still has 7 weeks of warenty left on it, so if i can identify it then i can get it sorted by them.

Other than this the car is great, gonna chop out the pads they fitted as the squeel like hell (probably cheepo brand as no markings on them).

Many thanks for any knowlege you can pass on fellas.

    Chris

  6. certainly havent noticed the radio going up n down.. but then i only either listen to 98.8 or 100fm.

Have definately started listening to CDs a lot more though...

Thanks for all the contributions on this, not sure if i will take off thos capacitors though..

might just look at fitting a new head unit with navigation.. are there any direct wiring loom adaptors availiable for the MK2 GS? or is it another case of remaking a bypass wiring loom?

  7. well.. i have really been enjoying me GS ownership so far but the only niggling thing is Radio reception..

its awful, can only really get Radio 1 on strong signal and would much prefer Kiss 100 as no scott "the muppet" mills on the way home!

kiss 100 is weak as hell even though my navara could get it as far as sittingbourne on strong signal, this is also making the music sound toneless when i do get any signal.

do they do a booster pack?

also what would be involved in fitting a roof mounted sharkfin arial?

  8. wont be any use to you, unless you can find a similar device, however my local BP has this new fangled machine which is next to the hoover. its some kind of spray machine which you spray onto the carpets in the car. i had a go out of interest 'new car smell' of course and was quite surprised. really good

i remember the first time i used one of those machines about 6 years ago... put in tokens and up popped 2 mins... so sprayed this stuff over everthing for 2 mins.... didnt realise you were supposed to use the hoover for most of that time and a light spray after...

nearly choked to death on the way home and it took over a day with all windows open to become bearable.. so beware the quantity you use!! lol :whistling::whistling:

  9. Slightly :offtopic:
thankfully a new lexus dealership has just opened less than 2 miles from my house!!! yay

If you mean Sidcup Lexus (?), they are Bromley Lexus relocated. I know how you like them :whistling:

is it? bugger.. whats happening to the bromley one?

Wont be taking it there for servicing though unless i have too... parts supply was good there though. So that will be a bonus.. plus its nice to see that BMW dealership get a bit of competition.. bet they loose at least a few sales!

Still i suppose i could give them another chance.. :winky:

  10. Alright Chris mate, lovely looking motor........look forward to seeing what you do with this one!!........where did your old IS end up then?

The old IS went to a woman in bournmouth if i remember correctly... keep getting worrying texts though...starting with.. i think the supercharger is broke.. how do i fix it!! Think it turned out to be a cracked subframe though for the charger mount..

  11. again, very sorry to hear that they put you in such a postition..

They will only realise what you did for them once you leave.. much like artists that are not apreciated untill they are dead...

Im sure you will do well in your next position, and i wish you the best of luck

  12. from what i remember when watching a review they said it was a dissapointment compared to the previous encarnation as it doesnt have fully indipendant suspension at the rear (think it went to torsian bar or something less fun) etc as well as gaining a decent bit of weight.

Best bet would be to drive them back to back on a test drive and see for yourself as one mans junk is another mans gold!
