  1. im sure them codes will get you a response. if it was me i would drive to a lexus main dealer tomorrow even if you are skint-go in with a polite attitude and who knows you may be able to chat them up to plug it on a machine for free-explain that independant garages cant seem to help you-from my experience which is limited the lexus chaps are quite proud of themselves and want you to be happy-just ask them to do a free estimate to fix your car
  2. hello mate,it sounds a bit like your garage may not be giving you the best service. i would try and take your car to a lexus dealer who may if you ask them really nicely give you a better idea of what the problem is. I might be wrong and am happy to be corrected but i think its hard for the other members to suggest a course of action for you to fix the problem because they are asking for codes - I think any reputable garage plugs a poorly lex into a machine and that machine gives codes or numbers out which identify areas of concern, you saying youve been told crank sensor is not a CODE and codes are quite important because they are very specific, you may even have a number of fault codes-you need to list them all for these guys to be able to really help you i think-ask your garage to print them out for you or at least write them down If your garage cannot give you the actual error code/s - change garage (im happy to be corrected)
  3. yeah cheers asi-i read up on em when you told me and id say thats em so i ordered some and a set of kyb shocks after a quick chat with tony at wim, lexus seemed to think it would be the shock as its misty which is a fair point and until theyre changed i wouldnt of been happy-wim,s a little way away from me so i dont wanna be goin up and down every week-hopefully this will be the last bit of money i spend on this one as im already looking for a 300
  4. cheers daz-anyidea where to get oem spec ones & how much ? im also looking to get arb bushes spoke to wim this morning and will take it up there to get it all done as soon as all the parts arrive
  5. update- two droplinks ordered two kyb excel-g shocks ordered
  6. what did they charge you if its not rude to ask Nah i don't mind. Total came to £496.96 - superb considering i had one of their cars overnight and at my age i can't rent one for insurance reasons through someone like enterprise etc Thats for a Full Service at 80,000 miles. kinda annoyed because i will be selling it in about 6 months and the next person who has it will only need to do an intermediate service lmao ,yeah i had an is250 loan from lex last week and liked it-well at least you got your car running properly-y are you selling it ? upgrade to a 300 ?
  7. am i correct in thinking these anti roll bar links are also referred to as droplinks ? silly q i know but just making sure
  8. lexy let me just clarify you paid £850 for a full 60k service + cambelt and waterpump ?? as lexus woodfood said the cheapest they could do was £800 for 60k service + water pump and cambelt but thats with me supplying the latter 2 parts i might have a trip to brighton if thats the case gok-i paid "£850 including vat-when you have the cambelt done you really want the two tensioners and the small bypass pipe and two o-rings and if its old get the waterpump done as well then by rights that area of the car is taken care of and you shouldnt have to go there again for 6 years or 60,000 miles unless the piece most likely to fail ie the waterpump goes again sooner-(mine was the original oem pump done 90,000 miles and lasted 11 years) so it is unlikely using lexus to fit lexus parts you should have any need to work on this area for the foreseeable future.Ialso wanted a full service ie sparkplugs, air filter, oil and filter, pollen filter, brake fluid change, diff oil change,auto-gearbox fluid and filter many other things done too and a visual safety report to check all over the car to lexus standards and advise on work needing attention-i was dreading the vsr as i thought they might tout for work and give me a big expensive list of things going expensively and dangerously wrong-they didnt, the only thing they told me which was a surprise was that the antisqueal shims were missing from the brakes i had replaced at an indy garage a week before(bodgers) Originally when i spoke to other people at lexus it was going to cost well over a grand ie £1150- then i asked to speak to the service manager told him what i wanted and said i was happy to work to his schedule and could bring the car in when he had a quiet period if it could be done any cheaper,he said he would look into it and would ring me back. 5 minutes later he rang back and said he would do the whole thing for £850 including vat-the price could go down if it didnt need a waterpump or up by £30 if it needed all the ancillary belts. there would also be a £17 charge to cover fully comp no worries insurance on the loan car i wanted while they had mine. My car didnt need ancilliary belts but did need waterpump. when i paid it was £850 - the guy very nicely waived the £17 insurance charge on the courtesy car (09 plate lexus is250 manual with full leather and multimedia) i left lexus in the morning at 8.45am and they phoned me at 5pm to say the car was ready. Not only was the car all done but it had been valeted as well and was very shiny indeed. I had asked for all the old parts back to inspect them-plus the sparkplugs are charged at £100 and my old ones had no issues so worth keeping-old waterpump bearing was noisy when you spin it by hand as were belt tensioners. I have had a nose round and air filter pollen filters are brand new and the guy said it should be much more economical now as the oil they reccomend which most placed dont use as cost is high is designed to work in that car to give best mpg. before i put my car in my brakes worked quite well but the pedal felt much firmer second pump-it came out with new fluid and bled properly with better feel and a perfect high pedal first press of the brake pedal-previously i had been told that it is a characteristic of the is that second press works better thats just how they are !!! theyre not i can assure you when lexus do them,,that was a major bonus I even got a courtesy call the next evening to check that iiiiino problems had surfaced after their work was completed and to check i was happy with both the work and the service which i certainly am. I mentioned when i paid that friends of mine were interested in a similar deal and the service manager said no problem tell them to ring. So the guy to speak to is the service manager PETER ,dont speak to anyone else but if hes busy leave him a message because he allways returned my calls very promptly. Obviously this dealer supplied all the genuine lexus parts-- if you have bought some already i doubt they would want to use them as they gaurentee their work in the event of cambelt failure ie if it goes they fit a brand new engine £9000 worth,,,,not a 2nd hand engine from a scrapyard or a cheap recon. You could probably sell your parts on here or on fleabay and get your money back. Obviously my experience was good - i am very happy-i thought the car ran beautifully before but its better now-and came back properly cleaned inside and out-no oily handprints anywhere,no uh oh mate a stud snapped i fink we have a problem and all that jazzzzzzzzzzzz I can only say as ive found and if its peace of mind and a real nice service you want-ring Peter the service manager at lexus brighton-tell him nick said to ring and you would like yours done at the same price if possible. And if your gonna take a loan car for the day to drive round in you need to take paper and plastic driving licence with you. And if you want to sell the car at any point the big wadge of papers detailing the work theyve done to your car must surely instill in any prospective buyer a feeling of a car that will be reliable
  9. oh right,shame-its obviously quite hard to find competant people to do work on lex and know their stuff-you obviously love em-was just a thought as im not too clued up on geography in scotland
  10. oh right, i was saying the 250 manual was klunky-i never drove a is200 manual as only wanted lasyman auto-
  11. ormi your in scotland arent you, cant you sort out tommys knocking noise ! im sure you can take an is 200 to bits and put it back together blindfolded,i know if i lived near a mech like you who loves and knows the lex so well id make the trip if not impossible
  12. if its any consolation i had a brand new is250 for the day last week and it was a manual and i would find the gearbox on that to be far more annoying-uurgh
  13. lol,me too,its cos were talking about it-ill shut up,,,
  14. cheers rob i will bear that in mind-does the 300 suffer from this as well cos im gonna upgrade sooner or later so might as well get to the bottom of it
  15. have you had it rechecked because if it is all still as it was set it would imply that the knock you have is caused by lateral(up and down) movement ie shock as opposed to horisontal movement which nearly everything else effects- im only guessing tho as it is my first is and theyre nothing if not complicated
  16. i know ive got a misty shock on the side thats annoying-lexus checked it and said it wasnt too bad-have you had your geo done at wim ?
  17. what happened to your knock tommy-did you cure it ? if so what did it for you or are you living with it ?
  18. lmao- how does that help !! no seriously i have read that one recently, mines probably not too bad but as the car is near silent you kinda notice it-im thinking geo will sort out my handling issues but still leave that annoying little knock---- Ive owned literally thousands of cars and i can do a fair bit of mechanics too , i just dont want to anymore and im happy to chuck a few quid at the car to get it right, but diagnostically im thinkin droplinks but i dont wanna go back and forth doin bits and bobs,i just want it right, not modded or improved just as it should be. I must admit i was doin a mental list of kyb shocks, droplinks, upper balljoints ? & geo as a fix but that thread kinda spoils that theory. it could also be the bonnet not quite seated properly I might just get it geo,d for now after i speak to everyone on mon and sort the knock out later on,its so slight i doubt many people would notice it but i do and it is annoying
  19. ormi i had the lower balljoints done-do u mean they should of greased them or do you mean the upper ones ? ive been studying after asi said droplinks and going over old threads from a few places these do sound the most likely culprit as symptoms appear to match. Im going to see if i can get lexus to diagnose this on monday but i doubt theres anything bad enough to spot or it should of come up on the vsr the other day- would wim stock droplinks and upper balljoints does anyone know ? ill fone them anyway on monday too ! From what ive read droplinks can account for a kind of vague or wayward steering attitude at motorway speeds and a quiet but annoying little clunk at low speed and potholes-seems to fit. With a bit of luck i can get it all done at wim in a day which would be nice although sssshh dont tell the gf its gonna be more than a ton ,,,, lol,,,,,,, Cheers for input
