  1. Hi guys

Anyone know of a good garage in the chester area? Just got quoted £607 for a calliper and some brake pads by Lexus Chester, after I managed to crawl back on my chair I figured it cant be that specific, surely a local garage should be able to do this, and for half the money!

Problem is of course I know only 1 garage here and that’s a Jag specialist, and I dont really want to just pick one from the yellow pages, so I was wondering if anyone here could recommend me a garage they’ve used?

  2. :P hehe well i buy the quietest car on earth so I can give it the RIGHT noises! B)

hey so sue me, I like a bit of engine noise! now i've finally got a V8 i want everyone to know it as well..

    :zee:

.. still dunno about the oil light, haven't seen it again since yesterday, gotta go out to check the oillevel as soon as it dries up again outside... :unsure

I'll have a look at the TDI site, cheers for the suggestion!

  3. Hello fellow Lexi!

just came back from Lexus Chester, they found that the brake calliper is sticking and the disk might need some work as well, plus the brake pads need replacing. :o

All as I expected, unfortunately they also found the exhaust might be blown!!! :duh: :yack:

I'm thinking now, if I gotta replace it anyway I might as well go for one which makes a little more noise, anyone got any experience/suggestions about this

..... they got nice coffee, by the by! :D

  4. wow man, that's impressive :excl:

wish I could do something like that, I'm having trouble enough already trying to gather the courage to merely paint the calipers on mine! :D

... hope ya wont mind me asking, but why a TR7? i mean it's not axactly the most desirable car one could think of :whistling:

  5. Hi there!

    Welcome to the club! :D

I'm not sure about your question, mine does it as well so I hope it's normal.. ;)

I think it's just cause the petrol is sucked out and the tank is vacuum its actually air being sucked in and not air going out that you're hearing..

I'm sure Mr. Loz or one of the other "senior" members will be around to tell you exactly

  6. Hi!

I just bought a '92 LS400, and I've been keeping an eye on fuel consumption to see whether I'll be able to mak a saving on it. turns out I won't be!

When driving fast I'm doing around 16 mpg (UK) and now i'm trying to use the cruise control as much as possible and driving 85 mph I get around 20.7 mpg.

I'm sure I can bring it down even further if I drive 70mph on the motorway, but I dont think I can control my right foot that much!! :winky:

  7. I'd have to agree with Loz, as usual he's right! :)

you're better off trying to sell it privately, unless you're really in a hurry to get rid. privately you might even be able to make £4500 if you try hard enough, from a dealer I wont expect you to get more then £3k for it.

Of course if you sell it privately you might have to wait a couple of weeks/months before a buyer turns up, you'll have to deal with loadsa fake buyers and people that just want to got for a test drive, that kinda thing, whereas if you trade it in you can have it all organized within a couple of days

  8. Loz  Posted on Jul 10 2003, 01:49 PM great car,

If that was my budget I would buy one deffo....

rather an LS 4 than an early GS 3. Better car in every respect. the only reason I prefer the late GS over the same price LS is the styling and economy. but at the £4k range I would sod the economy and go for the best car by far, the LS400...

Would still like one kinda now...

    Loz

I'd prefer to have a GS Sport but as I cant find one and I needed to get rid of my old car this was the best I could find. I'll keep it for a year and then I'll try again if I can find a GS300 Sport, atleast then I wont have to make a decision based on the fact I need to get rid of my old car asap!

    flotsam  Posted on Jul 11 2003, 12:16 AM A 4K car!!?!?!?

He hasn 't stopped paying for it yet!

Well I hope that I wont have to pay anything more for it, but I would think I'll need to spend atleast another £1000 over the year to keep it running... which''ll still save me £1500 compared to the Jag.. :)

I'm not expecting it to stay perfect for as long as I have it, gotta be realistic somewhat, it's an 11 year old car afterall! Although I hope all the things I've read about Lexus reliability prove to be true..

Loz  Posted on Jul 11 2003, 12:43 AM funny enough, when I get asked what I drive I always either laugh it off without answering or I say a toyota.

Then if they never see my car they don't think anything of it. but if they do, then they either blast me for not being entirely honest or they are just pleasently supprised.

I can now of course legitimatly say I drive a honda civic!

tellling people you have a lexus makes you look like a BMW wanna be. better to be subtle about it and just enjoy it for yourself, not for the how the rest of the world are gonna react to one facet of your life.

Its that thinking that kinda makes me wanna get an old cheap LS and just keep it tip top for another 150k before it died or was no longer comfortable.

    Loz

I find if I tell people I drive a Lexus most don't even know what it is (mostly the women, for some strange reason.. :) ), some are impressed just by the name and most are impressed when they actually see the car. More because of all the gadgets though! :D

  9. Jason 92 Mk1 LS400  Posted on Jul 9 2003, 08:12 AM My "dog" had lots of flees, I keep trying to get rid of em, but they keep comming back ohmy.gif

    Does your air-con work ?

Have you checked your power steering pump for leaks ? (a common problem)

I've already mentioned the steering swivel joints

how's the neon's doing in your dash

As the timing belt been changed ?

(just a few of the problems I've had - still love the car though !)

    cheers !!

    Ps - Nice wheels

hehe thnx, that made me feel a whole lot better! and there's me thinking this will mean i'll no longer have to be on first name terms with my garage owner cause i now have a reliable Lexus... :)

aircon seems to work ok, it's blowing cold air when and if i want it to, as far as i can tell...

havent checked the PAS pump yet, I'll have a look this evening. steering seems fine though, dont think there'll be a problem. timing belt's up for a change at 120k i've been informed, so still 9000 miles to go, and the neon in the dash is working rather nicely, all my collegues were certainly impressed! B)
