  1. who you going with mate? my renewal quote was ridiculous this year - chuchill wanted £20 extra a month. Even though im a year older (and wiser :winky: ) I had an extra years no claims bonus, told them to do one and went with tesco which was £3 a month cheaper. :) Swiftcover, put my father on the policy dropped it by 10 quid :winky: Bell Insurance wanted 540 quid for a 10 month policy but in one lump. Still looking
  2. Ouch, 58 quid a month, teach me to bump the car!! And that's after shopping around for hours. Two weeks till my current policy runs out, hopefully get it cheaper by then............ doubt it though.
  3. none of the links for the pictures seem to work for me???
  4. Thanks for the reply, Interesting read. I don't think it could be the wheel bearings, convinced its the disc rubbing against the back plate. Also the anti-squeal spring is missing from the caliper on that side, don't know if that has anything to do with it?? Is it possible to buy a new one of these???
  5. I replaced the rear discs on my is two days ago (Mintex pads and disc set). Quite easy to do, not the horror show I was expecting. Anyway everything went well brakes are spot on handbrake is only 3 clicks etc. However driving home tonight with the window down I heard a skimming noise coming from the near side rear, only when I turned the car to the right. I'm presuming its rubbing against something as it makes no difference when I brake...... any ideas
  6. Woah, lucky escape there mate. Glad everyone is okay.
  7. I think i would have got a courtesy car if I had taken it to Lexus for them to do the repairs. But the place I took it to are well known for the quality of the work they put out they dealt with the insurers they just didn't have any spare cars for me, not a huge company. All done and dusted now, needless to say I shall be changing my insurers when its up for renewal, was not that impressed with them.
  8. Got the car back today :) , 9 days after the 'incident'. Looks perfect very pleased with the work carried out, will put some pictures up when it finally stopped chucking it down up here to allow me to get some shots. The front bumper has had a full respray as well so got rid of the stone chips ( pity about the one on the bonnet though ) I moved the horns behind the sports grille when i got it back as well........... looks much better.
  9. I've got a manual, but the handbrake is ***** poor, needs adjusting. You can do it from the lever itself but Ive been warned against doing that, best way is to adjust each drum.
  10. All but sorted now, getting the car back on Wednesday hopefully. A part of the suspension was slightly bent but they have replaced most of it on that side just to be safe I suppose.
  11. Well here are the pics post crash The car is in the garage awaiting the insurance engineers inspection before any work can go ahead, should be tomorrow. So far apart from the wing only other damage is to the bottom suspension arm ( the off side wheel is straight so you can see how far out its been shunted ) so hopefully will get the car back next week sometime. Its been done in a repair specialists that I requested rather than the ******* my insurance company wanted me to go to, which however meant they wouldn't let me have a courtesy car...... bastards. 12. Overtook a parked car didn't see that the road in front was blocked tried to avoid the cars in front but just clipped a Honda civic, it needs a new wing, bumper is okay just need realigned maybe. don't know about the wheel, has to be checked out
  13. Pranged my IS today............. gutted :tsktsk: . Clipped the passenger wing nice big dent in it bumper scuffed plus the steering is all over the shop, bye bye no claims hello 300 quid excess. Getting it to the garage tomorrow to have it assessed.
  14. Slightly different, but a few years back when I was buying some alloys for my old Mazda Kei Racing did some deep dish alloys which had a chrome rim on it which could be replaced if damaged. You couldn't tell that they could be removed, blended seamlessly with the wheel. I think some like the gators mentioned above would look slightly out of place on any alloy. Just park a foot away from the curbs
  15. depends how bad they are, mine weren't that bad really no curb damage, just the black scabby corrosion. The reason the IS200 wheels corrode so easily is because the paint/lacquer is so thin on them when they are brand new. Still not 100% happy with them, trying to find a better colour for the wheels then go over them again...... want to get a nice silver colour.
  16. Sounds about right if you took it to a lexus garage, cost me almost 400 quid just to have the timing belt done.
  17. Haven't noticed any difference power wise, hard to tell really. I do think its helped the mpg slightly, but maybe that's just because the old filter was really dirty.
  18. car is just as i want it.......for now

  19. Wheels finished and on the car. Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  20. Just refurbed my alloys myself, when the wheels were off noticed the rear discs where getting a bit rough plus i think one side of one of the calipers is sticking. Anyway saw these on ebay............. seem a bit too cheap. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LEXUS-IS200-IS300-FRONT-REAR-BRAKE-DISCS-MINTEX-PADS-/280133023192?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item41393ab5d8
  21. Not really, gave the wheels a good scrub and clean when i took them off, then used emery cloth to take most of the heavy marks off followed by wet and dry sanding down, then just painted them they way you would any other thing. Not that hard to do. The paint I used was Simoniz silver wheel paint, the lacquer was just some Halfords own brand i had lying round. Actually the only part which is a pain in the arse is the masking up of the tyre........ :tsktsk:
  22. That's what they claim seen the results as well, very good. Jobs made easy if you have the right tools I suppose
  23. where I work we have huge heaters for drying things off, helped a tad :winky: Plus the wheels weren't that bad once you get rid of most of the crap on them. Only one of the wheels was curbed which had to be filled.......... that took a bit longer.
  24. Did all five wheels today, the paint i used was slightly darker than the original colour, but it will do until i can scrape the cash together to get them done professionally. First pic is of the front off side which was the worst wheel on the car. And this is one of the rear wheels after 3 coats of paint and lacquered. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Ill post some more with the wheels on the car soon.
  25. Well the spare money I had for the wheels has had to go elsewhere (holiday or my girlfriend will kill me). Going to try and do it my self (slightly cowboy I know ) I've done it before on my previous car. Will post the before and after pictures on soon.
