  1. Unfortunately squeaks and rattles are a very well known issue with the 3rd generation GS. Mine tends to rattle from the dash in winter and the back in summer! :crybaby: TBH I just live with it. I believe some of the dash rattles can be cured by pushing felt in between the dash and windscreen. Never heard of a glovebox rattle though....

Fortunately so far have not got any squeaks or rattles in my car, but its interesting that you mention the noise coming from your dash and windscreen, before owning the GS450h I had a GS300 witch after around 4 month old from new started squeaking from the frond drivers side speaker by the windscreen, if I slid a piece of cardboard in the gap it stopped. I took it back to the dealership were I brought it, they told me this was a common issue and have been allowed by Lexus to strip the front dash out and re sound proof it, after this was done I had no other problems with rattles or squeaks from the front dash.

  2. Apologies for the silly question but I have an 2006 gs300se and when I open the boot at night there is no light.

    Am I missing something?

Have you looked in daylight or in the owners manual? Try looking just in front of the bootlid on the "roof" of the boot.

Its on the right hand side of the boot. Does not seem to be automatic. It has a switch.

The switch will either switch the boot light off completely or put it on automatic so it will go on and off when you open the boot, try switching the switch the other way. it may even be the bulb i have had to replace it twice

  3. Hi lee, sorry to here about your problem, it is almost impossible to touch up stone chips to what I would call a satisfactory result, in fact most local repair companies wont even take on the job in the first place, knowing that even if they do the best job they can most customers would not be happy with the result, ( especially Lexus customers ).

I am also very surprised that the car was delivered in that condition in the first place and although its not really the salesmans job, he should have had a quick look around the car to make sure the car was in the condition you would expect for a £40k car.

I have had Lexus cars for the past 12 years and knowing Lexus customer care, if I was in your position I would let them take the car away and put the problem right, Lexus have a fantastic repetition for treating there customers well, I understand that you may be feeling a bit suspicious about there intentions and if it was any other car manufacture I would probably feel the same,i personally think that the salesman in as unhappy about the situation as you are and wants to put things right.

I am confident that you will be happy with the overall result, but let us no either way.

    Good luck

  4. Hi, this is a common issue, metal valve caps welding themselves on, two things that will help

1…put a little bit of grease or Vaseline on the thread before putting them on

2… once a month just undo and re tighten them

if its just the outer part of the valve cover rotating, just grip them gently with a pair of pliers, perhaps use a piece of thin cloth or tissue paper so you dont mark them.

if they have a tiny hole in the top then you should have a small domed tool that fits over the top of the valve with a pin in it that fits into the hole in the valve cover

if you have tyre sensor monitors the you are in trouble as you could quite easily break the stem while trying to get them of, you could try using some WD 40 on them and leaving it overnight.

If you have just normal valve stems then I would go to your local tyre place and ask them to try and get them of, then at least if they do snap your in the right place to have them replaced.

    Best of luck

  5. I am so pleased with my 2nd hand GS300 apart fom the Boot/Trunk. It opens great with the key but when any wind is blowing every time I unload it the lid keeps shutting with a slam - its caught me on the arm once - Ouch!! My husband had a look but cannot see anything you could alter/tighten to stop it doing this. One day its going to hurt someone so anyone's help, advice etc would be much appreciated. I had to open it at lest 4 times this week while I was unloading shopping - petty but annoying!!

    Thanks.

    SG

sounds like you need to replace the 2 struts that hold the boot open

I find US drivers comments on most things a bit weird sometimes. When I was looking at tyre reviews, you see them complaining that tyres have "only" lasted 30,000 miles and they regularly have occurrences of flat spotting overnight!

This kind of comment is what I'm talking about.

I have had the Scorpion STR H rated tires for several years and they have performed adequately. However, the tread is just about gone and I will need new tires after only 32,000 miles.
Expedition - 275/55R20 - Not a bad tire for dry and rain but not impressed last winter. With 48,000 miles on them now I need to get new tires before this winter's smow flies, very poor tread life.

If only those levels could be achived in the UK. BUut, wait are US miles not shorter than ours?!!!

i would have thought being the US they would have been BIGGER

  7. I am looking for a GS450h - not in any real hurry since I would have to sell my own car but just wondering if anyone is thinking of selling up in the next few months ?

Ideally looking for top spec sel multimedia etc in cadoxton slate but all others considered. Don't mind the mileage but to be within my budget it will likely have to be 2006/7 model or higher than average miles later version. Must have Full Lexus service history and no accident damage.

    Cheers

    Kev

    Hi Kev

I have a 2008 ( 58 ) 450h se that will be available when the new GS comes out, I think around Febuary / March 2012 time, this may be a bit to far away for you, and if your looking for a 06/07 may be slightly over your budget range.

There are some photos in the gallery under “ my baby “ if you want to have a look.

This car has been very well looked after, and is in immaculate condition. Will have around 16.000 miles on the clock by March.

  8. I'm sure I'm not the only one but have had an intermittent problem refuelling. Insert the nozzle, pull the trigger and within a couple of seconds it cuts out as you would expect when the tank is reaching the brim. I thought it was me and have tried a variety of solutions, without success.

Yesterday another Lexus owner noticed the problem and said it was to do with air in the tank, and the solution is to wait for 30 seconds or so before inserting the nozzle. By this point I had given up with £20 in the tank but will try it on the next visit. Probably tomorrow as £20 goes nowhere!

Hope this helps anyone else who experiences this.

Try pulling the nozzle out slightly when filling, if you push the nozzle right in the fuel tends to hit the back part of the filling tube and splashes back up the nozzle stopping the pump, you can also try not squeezing the trigger fully, squeeze it half way, this way the fuel wont come out so fast witch will also stop the splash back, it will just take you a little longer to fill up.

  9. Welcome to the clubs! both the LOC and the stolen valve cap victims club!

Apply a generous amount of super glue to them and then see who's attached to them in the morning! :whistling:

What about the models with the tyre pressure monitoring system can those valve caps also be easily removed as I hear they are expensive to replace?

the valvecaps on cars with the tyre pressure monitoring system have the same caps as any other car, what i would advise is that any other metal cap fitted other than a Lexus Original caps is that you apply a small amount of grease or Vaseline to the threads, this will stop them from welding themselves on, if this happens especially if you do have tyre monitors can become very expensive.

  10. Hi all, just joined today, I had my GS 450h SE-L 2008 for about 2 months now and still love it.

    Just a couple of questions,

    1. when the side lights are on should the LEDs on the boot lid be illuminated(the ones next to the fog lights)

    2. Got a noise coming from the front. Not sure if it's general tyre noise or I ve got a wheel bearing on it's way out.

    Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

    cheers

    Mark

Hi Mark and welcome to the club

The sidelights do not light up on the boot lid

As for the noise coming from the front, a lot more information would be needed before anyone could hazard a guess, and even then it would only be a possibility.

Does it happen all the time, straight line driving or more so round corners and bends, under acceleration or braking.

What type of noise, knocking, creaking, squeaking, rubbing ect

I you don’t want to take it to a Lexus dealership for them to investigate, you could use a local mechanic if you no a reliable one, because I don’t so if I had this noise I would take mine to my local M.O.T place, they only do M.O.T,s so don’t find work that may or may not need doing, they also do what they call a pre M.O.T, which is cheaper than a full M.O.T. that should eliminate the wheel bearings, and other possibility’s.

    Hope this helps

    Chris

  11. I dont think this problem is just confined to the ISF, ever since they changed to water baste paint witch is a lot softer than the old oil based paint stone chips on the front bonnet/ bumper seems to be a common thing, having a white base coat doesn’t help either when you have a dark coloured car, why cant they make the base coat the same colour as the car?

  12. I’am assuming the joy stick is the same as on the RX450h, I thought that worked well when they lent me one as a curtsey car, the only thing that I felt was awkward was the fact I had to use my left hand to work the mouse when I am right handed, which is the hand I would normally use to work a computer mouse, I suppose its something that you would get use to.

I like the looks of this car, and as my car is due to be changed in April I will wait until June when it is supposed to be available in the uk, it will be interesting to see the price, with all this new technology it looks expensive to me.

  13. Hi, I have had both cars, the GS 300 & GS450h & the 450h wins hands down, as for fuel consumption I only cover a max of 5k miles a year 95% is town driving & most journeys are short, around 6 miles.

Although I really don’t want to admit it I am probably a bit of a granddad driver, I have rarely stick my foot down, and have only a couple of times used the sport & power button, the last time I tried it I ended up in the back seat.lol

Because of my short journeys in the winter months I average 26 mpg, and in the spring/summer 30mpg, I have never reset the fuel computer and it is showing 28.9mpg over the last 3 years.

My car has 18” wheels and the ride comfort is not bad, I find any car with low profile tyres tends to give you a more bumpy ride over a car that has, what I call balloon tyres

There’s not a lot of difference between the SE & SE-L or though this does depend on the year you are intending to buy, in 2009 they de-specked the SE taking of, electric rear sun blind, 18” wheels and rain sensitive wipers, as for adaptive cruise control, this is not standard on either model.

Good luck, and if you can wait until next June you can buy mine.

  14. A GS 450h? "Far too noisy, and far too harsh"???? Are you mad????

It's certainly the quietest car I've ever driven (you can't beat 'silent' really can you?), and even with the suspension set to Sport it's nowhere near 'harsh'.

Now if you're talking about an IS diesel then I could possibly believe your comments - but surely Lexus don't make a car that is "noisy" or "harsh" in any respect?

    Very odd...

Not sure if I'm mad ( :P ) but have to admit I was quite surprised by what the drive in the GS was like - perhaps it was a dodgy car, but it was brand new on an 11 plate and only a few k on the clock.

I think I understand a little on what you mean by noisy and harsh . I thought the same thing the first time I put my foot down, when you accelerate hard the engine revs high and the gearbox seams to take a few seconds to catch up, but thats the way the CVT gearbox works. I dont no if you had a go at driving it in manual, but if you get a chance you would have noticed that you dont get that initial engine revving noise as much, it just flys. :P

  15. Hi. Wonder if anyone can help me with this...?

I have recently bought a gs450h (great car by the way) and the low tyre warning has been irrating the hell out of me. I have set all the tyres to the correct pressures and tried to initialise, using the reset button under the dash, but this low tyre warning keeps coming on!

So I had a closer look at the wheels today and noticed one of the wheels has a rubber valve stem whilst the other 3 wheels have metal ones... Am I missing a tpms valve? Could this be the reason for my constant low tyre warning?

    Many thanks.

Yep that would be it. they should be aluminium

Looks like someone had problems with one of the sensors and didnt want to spend £100+ replacing it and just put a standard valve in its place. If you brought it from a dealer the I would take it back.

why did you buy the car in the first place with the warning light on?

  16. Hi, the GS450h is a great car, just watch the boot space, I don’t know if you’re a family man, but 2 adults + 2 kids going on holiday for 2 weeks is probably a no no.

I am sure the only recall is for the “Valve Springs”, so just make sure that has been done, although its not the end of the world if it hasn’t, its all warranty work.

Pity your looking now, I intend on replacing mine next April when the new GS is supposed to come out, it will be 3 ½ years old, aprox 17k miles, mint condition, I will probably look at selling it on this site as I would like it to go to a Lexus enthusiast. ;)

Anyway good luck in your search, I am sure you wont be disappointed in your choice of car.
