"Sealed for life" just means they tried to keep the on-paper maintenance costs low at the point of sale. It *does not* mean the transmission will run forever without any servicing. Sealed for life means exactly what it says - sealed until the fluid's burned up and that's the end of its life!

Ah, the thorny issue of the transmission fluid. My 2010 450 has 92000 miles on the clock. I asked the dealer about changing the TR oil and he said not to bother. They'd never had problems on the 3rd gen even with 200k on the clock. I spoke to a transmission specialist who was initially willing to do the wok for 175 + VAT but then told me he couldnt as he couldn't source the filter. Just asked another TR specialist and he said not to bother unless i was hard on the transmission, ie towing or serious off roading, neither which I do so I'm just going to leave it alone. Managed to squeeze in 2 more years warranty for a car a shade under ten years old so i have two years comeback anyway. Has anyone on this forum ever changed their tr oil? I'm curious Thanks and a safe and problem free 2020 to all ont he forum

  2. As a preventative measure I use milton sterilising tablets in my reservoir every few months to stop crud build up. Very cheap and seems logical. Sorry it doesn't help with your current problem. I once used a tyre pump to blow through the line, easy to find a part you can acess. Horrified to see the dirt that is blown through. If you can't see a join, it's eay to cut and fit a coupler to allow easy acess every year to blow the sysatem clear. HTH Ed

  3. If anyone is running 18" wheels, I am, there is on eBay 4 cross climates 235 65 18 XL for £405 delivered, there's a 10% discount code. Should arrive for me next week. At £101 a tyre that's excellent. I know most will be running 19", i had bought a set of wheels and tyres from an RX200T owner who 'upgraded' to 20" wheels. Have Dunlop Sport Maxx on them but fancy a bit more snow capability.

  4. Hmm, it's going in to Glasgow Lexus, on Friday 13th.....Wish me luck guys..

Well, in the better weather we had yesteday I removed the back wheel, took a wire brush to all the rusty parts and cleaned out the brakes and the dustguard was not rotten, just a film of surface rust. Whatever I did I managed to fix the issue, may have been the dust guard rubbing the disc, or dirt or gravel trapped, I'll never know.

What I do know however it is a paifully slow process to raise the car with the supplied jack! If i had the space I would use a trolley jack for sure.

Hopefully that's my adventures over for another year.  Ed.

  5. Quick question, i was changing a footwell bulb and the interior lights have stopped working, think I've blown a fuse. It's a 2010 RX450, the fuses seem tiny, I see there are mini blade fuses and micro blade fuses, anyone know which the Lexus uses? Can't get them out as I'm not dextrous enough so need a fuse puller as well.

If anyone knows the type I can order on line I guess. TIA

Strangely that’s why I prefer the factory navs which keep you on main routes rather than tread you down some narrow kamikaze route to save 2mins I’ll stick to main routes for as long as humanly possible.

My old tom Tom would pick the shortest, most awful routes imaginable to save barely 5 mins on a four hour journey

I have to agree with you there, using google maps and th like introduce some seriously odd shortcuts, invariably over lots of traffic calmed streets in an urban environment.

  7. I have a 2010 RX450h and about 3 months ago fitted new original part replacements. Standard shocks on my model, not air suspension. I had 80k miles on the clock and as I am planning on keeping it for  a while I thought I would get the benefits of new shocks. Mild improvement, with hindsight I may have opted for KYB, I see on US forums they get a great name. Front and rear shocks were 270 from Birmingham Lexus and I paid 120 to have them fitted. Mechanic fitted new roll bars at the time as they were rotten he said. Trust him implicitly.

I think it says more about British roads than Lexus suspension, just back from Mallorca where the roads are the best I have ever driven on, even a Lotus Elise would have been like  a Rolls Royce.
