I replaced my radiator at 135,000 miles due to a little bit of crustiness at the top left, while I was in there I put a new water pump in but tbh the old one was tight and fine at that mileage.

140k for mine - sweet as anything

Thanks! I'll get the front tracking done.
If you live anywhere near WIM (wheels in motion) get it done there. The best alignment I’ve had done, they have IS200 specific custom settings that are perfect for the car.

I did think that Lepsons processes would refurb them to a higher standard, but come the first winter they are showing serious corrosion on the diamond cut.

Alright, I'll skip my usual procedure and go easy. Cheers

Picked up the refurb'ed wheels today too Glyn. They look lovely! Looks like the winters will be coming off again
Are they the five spoke with diamond cut? I had mine refurbed at Lepsons a year ago - white worm corrosion already appearing on the diamond cut edges. Depressing. That particular alloy is so crap. I'm going to get them done again as I can't stand seeing them like that, but this time no diamond cut, just powdercoat.

Does yours get worse with more people in the car? That's something I've noticed.
I'm reviving this thread to see if anyone had any progress with the knocking noise. catnap - I've not noticed any increase in the knocking noise with the car occupied with people. It may be me, but it does seem quieter in the rain when the underside is wet.
-
I’d be very, very curious to know the result of your knocking noise investigations. I sort of ignore it now, but there are days when I can’t...
-
Feeling your frustration on this. I’ve had my is200 since it was one year old, and have only had this issue very briefly when I put new (Lexus sourced) front discs on. It turned out that some corrosion spots on the hub were just enough to affect the runout, I properly cleaned the hub and the problem went away. My issue has always been a knocking noise coming from the drivers side front suspension, never got to the bottom of it.
-
Great result. If I remember, max runout is .035 so you’re now spot on.

Hi all,
Oil and filter change today.
Can't see how the oil filter can be removed without taking off the engine under tray.
I think removing the offside wheel gives access to the filter - it's a bit of a pig to remove though.
-
Yes, the gradual coming back thing is perplexing. I really hope we can get to the bottom of this.
-
I think your list is spot on. I’ve changed;
Shocks (on third set)
top mount
lower ball joint
i also removed LCA and inspected the large bush on it, looked fine. I’ve also had garages pull it all about, including the guy at WIM, they couldn’t find anything wrong.
After 3 sets of different makes of shocks on it I can’t see that they are the problem(unless they all share the same design flaw - but why then is the clunking noise always on the right(drivers) side? I currently suspect the upper ball joint.

Once you get rid of it, even for a day, it's glorious.
Oh yes! I so agree. It almost makes me want to jack up the car to relax the suspension on a weekly basis just for it to go away for a short while.
-
catnap, look forward to the results of your investigations. I'd love to get rid of the knock on mine
-
I personally would get timing belt kit, water pump and ancillary belts from Lexus. I know its dearer but peace of mind is worth a lot. I've bought ancillary belts from eBay in the past and had to change them due to quality issues.

Passed,
73000 miles still drives and looks like new.
137,000 and still drives like new. And looks (almost) like new, now that I've had the wheels refurbed by Lepsons. That diamond cut has never looked better.
-
Any suggestions as to where such a rig could be found? I'm in Essex, catnap is in Sussex.
-
I'm not surprised, that's the same result as me. Ho hum, onwards and upwards...
-
I'd go for the upper ball joint too, plus the upper control arm. I've had the lower control arm off on mine, the bush looked fine.
-
Catnap I agree that it's almost certainly not the shocks. I've had 3 sets on mine, including adjustables and exactly the same noise has persisted. I did look at the top balljoint but didn't change it. I think the only way to get rid would be to change all bushes and balljoints. My worry is that may not do it...

Please let us know if he finds anything

Hey guys,
Been chasing a knocking noise from the front for a long time. Does this sound like the noise people are getting from worn-out shocks?
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-zeBnQZF3cgVnJZYWZ1YktWV00
(Bit quiet, it's most obvious about halfway through before I put the indicator on)
Been pulling my hair out trying to figure out what's doing it.
Cheers
It does sound like my noise. I've changed the shocks (twice), changed the top mount, and the noise has not gone away. I've also changed the lower balljoint. I've had a number of techs look at it and no one can find it. I've also pulled my hair out over this, having had more than a few attemps at curing it.

Bump on this one as I'm thinking the same. Anyone put an android unit in an IS200/300, and if so what are they like?

Been there done that, didn’t make any difference.
