So, have you written off the UX Alan ?

Indeed I have John. It’s too small both with regards to the boot space and rear seating accommodation. Having had a Honda Jazz for a few years now we’ve been spoilt! Also the perceived interior quality is not up to my GS experience expectations. As an aside, about a year ago, I thought about upgrading to an ES but after a test drive was disappointed by the interior compared to GS. Too many hard plastics and it felt ‘sterile’ compared to mine. I then felt that there was nothing on the market that I would swap it for.

However, I digress. Circumstances change (as they do) which LED me to the possible NX option.

However (again) circumstances have changed once more. Whilst my service was taking place I spent time with a nice sales person discussing my thoughts. My first inquiry involved the value of my GS. I was offered £14k. I enquired to the cost of an NX of similar spec three or four years old. I was informed that, depending upon mileage and condition, I’d be looking at £28 - £32k. Unfortunately they did not have any available for me to look at. Interestingly they had a GS premier to sell, exactly the same spec as mine, but with about 20k less miles on the clock, for a few pounds short of £21k!

Again I appear have digressed. The outcome of my thought process is that  £14 -£18k will pay for a few years of Jazz insurance, tax and consumables so we can justify keeping two cars. It also means I can keep the best car I’ve ever had. We’ve decided to keep the status quo until the Jazz pops her clogs. Her mot is due in December. All being well I’ll remain a member of the GS forum for a while to come. Fingers crossed!

  2. Am toying with the idea of trading in our 2014 GS300h premier for an NX around three years old. Has anyone gone down a similar route and if so what are your thoughts? We love our GS especially the luxury feel it pervades and its supreme cruising ability. As I’ve now retired we mainly do shortish journeys with the occasional long trip. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Am about to get the GS serviced today and will have a look at what the dealer has and see if I can take an NX for a test drive.

    Thanks,

     Alan

  3. I stick with what the car came with. They may not be the best ‘on the limit’, or the best in the wet or dry but my decision is rational. The ones I chose seem to last long enough and I’ve never lost grip rain or shine. They are quiet and give a comfortable ride. What more do I want from a tyre? Therefore my choice in tyres is exceptionally rational!

If you had bought both rears at same time, then you have a problem Al. (suspension, driving technique, sub standard tyre ?)

    Otherwise, as Peter has said.

The good one on the back was bought due to a puncture a couple of years back.

  5. I’ve only done 1123 miles since my last service a year ago. Just booked it in and although technically I should have a full service Lexus said it was ok to have an intermediate. Saving me £190.  They also assured me that I’ll still be covered by my extended warranty.

  6. On my GS300h the tread depths are as follows:

    Both fronts are 4.2mm

    Passenger rear 6.8mm

    Driver rear 3.2

I am going to buy a new one for the driver rear. Would you just change that one or put the fronts on the back and the passenger rear and new one on the front?

     Thanks for any advice.

  7. I have a 2014 gs300h premier and used to change cars every four or five years. However, whenever I think about buying another I can’t think of anything else that I would change it for! I’ve had many cars during my 42 years of car ownership and have not had a better car. The only thing I can of as a negative is that it is not useful as a taking stuff to the tip car unlike my old Volvo estate. Unlike our Honda jazz. The second best car I’ve owned!

  8. I think it’s scandalous that a forum such as this allows companies to sponsor them in the way they do.
Conflict of interest springs to mind! The thing I like most about this forum is that it is full of individual independent subscribers who are knowledgeable and generally helpful in sharing that knowledge. I understand that those who moderate this forum need to cover their costs but feel it’s disingenuous to take money from businesses such as AF that try to appear as if they are sanctioned by the forum! Some folk may believe that such companies are supported by the forum and are therefore more trustworthy. The forum moderators should make it clearer that companies like AF are solely using this forum for advertising purposes and that any posts by them are not necessarily sanctioned by the forum. This may get me ‘sanctioned’ by the moderators in which case you know where they lie!
