  1. Evening all. does anyone know if it’s possible to add contacts from a newish iPhone 8S to a Lexus GS phone book. It keeps asking me to send the contacts but not sure how to do it and the owner’s manual hasn’t helped much. any suggestions gratefully received thanks Patrick
  2. Thanks for that and i am not certain the exact location, AC doesn't work so dont think it's that. I wondered if it could be like a pulley slipping in its mount from front belts maybe.
  3. Maybe difficult trying to explain a noise but here goes. The car is a 2002 Rx300 152k fullish history, transmission fluid changed last year and still clean. Driving along and started to hear a weird metallic squeaking/whining that disappeared at higher revs. A bit like a rusty hinge on a metal gate but consistent and rising in pitch then barely audible till the revs drop to under about 2000rpm. Then squeals again till over about 2000 rpm and on and on.... and obviously most apparent when driving in town -sounds like metal on metal, like a rusty gate I think the noise is from the rear of the car. I tried listening and raising revs with my head in the engine bay but couldnt hear it. Occasionally i can smell a hot metal kind of whiff but that could just be paranoia. The car shifts and drives fine apart from the noise that drives me nuts. I dont know anything about 4 wheel drive systems but wondered if there is a shot bearing somewhere or a lubricant issue- there are no leaks. It also happens when the car is stationary with drive in Park or Neutral and obviously when driving along. Easiest thing is probably to get it to a garage and get an opinion from them. Failing that just turn the radio up and ignore it as it drives fine. Anyway wondered if anyone here has any clue and any ideas gratefully received thanks Patrick
  4. Hi all just taken delivery of a mk 2 gs 300 (2000 on an X plate) but dont have an owners manual. I had a look on ebay but nothing currently in the uk. Is there an online version somewhere? Or just a case of waiting till one pops up on fleabay? thanks patrick
  5. Thanks for that. I guess I wanted to know if a mk 2 gs300 with ML has more than the standard 7 speakers in it
  6. Hi all i am desperate to get another Lexus and looking at a very clean GS300 on an 03 plate. The car has a ML hifi (or his name written on the front of the audio unit!) i appreciate that anything related to sound is a subjective opinion but is there an appreciable difference between it and the standard OE audio? i think the standard has 7 speakers including a sub on the rear parcel shelf. Does the ML have more speakers or higher output etc? thanks Patrick
  7. Hi all I am desperate to get another LS400 and see an lpg one for sale at the moment. Is it fairly straightforward to get insurance? I tried previously with my current provider who said it was a modification and the company wouldn't cover it. Any suggestions? Or good brokers who can I help? Many thanks Patrick
  8. Hi all Thanks for your replies. I always knew the car would not be a long term prospect. I have always wanted one and too a degree have satisfied that need! I simply can't afford to run 3 cars on one salary. I had been planning to sell it this summer and was mindful of the mot running out in June. It was mot'd at kwik fit as it was cheapest and would have passed but for a number plate bulb and the emissions. The tester said he imagined it was the cats as it 'stank of rotten eggs' but also possibly lambda sensors? I put a bottle of cataclean and that did drop the readings a bit but not enough to pass. He also said it was 'hunting' between 2-3k rpm. I have never noticed that it has always run very smoothly so- he suggested taking it to a garage and having a diagnostic check done but the car really seemed to run flawlessly and no issues with excessive fuel consumption etc I guess I could have thrown some more time and energy (and money) at it but we figured we would cut our losses and sell it on. I think I got a fair price and I was happy that it went to a couple of young guys who are planning a summer tour in it rather than trading it in. I hope they will show up on here soon I would be interested to hear how they sort it. One of the guys father was a mechanic so hopefully they will get it sorted cheaply enough and then waft about France in silent luxury I really like this site and will keep an eye out for an LPG LS400 when my lottery numbers come up With best wishes Patrick
  9. Hi all With great sadness I have just sold my LS400 after 6 months of trouble free motoring. Sadly it failed its emissions on re-test on Monday. It has however been sold to two fine gentlemen who plan to take it to France for a summer blast. I am sure they will along here soon enough and they will get the same warm and courteous welcome that I received here. It does seem to be the case that any other car now will just now be a poor imitation of what has to be the finest car on the planet- so I will probably be back here sooner rather than later! Happy motoring and have a great summer Patrick
  10. Sadly mine 97 LS400 failed on Monday. The reason for failure was the emissions and according to the tester a smell of 'rotting eggs'. They told me it needs new catalytic converters and they are expensive. I spoke to another garage who advised some cataclean additive so will try this and see if it makes a difference Anybody any experience of this or how much cats are? Looks like about £100 each side on eBay plus new sensors too? On the up side the only other reason was a blown number plate bulb!
  11. Thanks that's really helpful- any one hazard a guess at which of those eBay batteries fits my fob? Looks like CR.....?? Cheers!
  12. I wondered about this as previous cars I have had (Saabs) needed to have the key coded in (or something) after replacing the batteries- always cost a few quid too. Can I just change the battery in the alarm fob? It's for a 1997 MK 3 ls400 Thanks Patrick
  13. Thanks for all your replies- Update from variety Of local garages for both front springs fitted is £343, to £397 through £448 and Lexus Edinburgh quoted £528.94 (£137 each spring and 2.4 hrs at £69.95 per hour) Looks like on eBay from about £45-99 per spring. My mechanical knowledge and experience stretches to air in the tyres and petrol in the tank - so likes like I have to bite the bullet and pay up! What's the deal with second hand stuff from breakers? I guess older OE springs maybe better than 'new' cheap Chinese copies? Thanks again
  14. Hi all, sitting beside the fire reading this forum when filled with overwhelming desire to drive my lovely Lexus as the snow seems to have finally melted Anyway as I set off I heard a metallic tinkling and saw this on the floor: Even I recognise this as a piece of suspension spring- but wondered how much they cost to replace, do they need to be replaced in pairs? Is it safe to drive a short distance like this? Could a competent mobile mechanic do this or is it a specialist job? It's a 97 LS400. Many thanks for any advice Cheers Patrick
  15. Likewise this is the nicest most friendly forum I have been on. I wish you all a peaceful Christmas and safe motoring in what I have now realised is undoubtably the finest car on the planet Cheers Patrick
  16. I have 18" rims and had 31 all round. Following a new tyre they had front ones at 36 and felt much better. It's still the only car I have ever owned where the fuel gauge moves visibly between here and the shops but I can forgive it every time I sit in it and waft around in splendid comfort!
  17. Thanks but its a green grey inside- doesn't look to complicated ! Cheers
  18. Hi all- been away a few days enjoying my car, driving it, cleaning it, fuelling it, loving it ad Infinitim... Oh and thanks for a nice welcome here- I appreciate it. i am assuming there are front cup holders just by the arm rest? They seem to be jammed in, it doesn't pop out. The guy who sold the car denied that they were even fitted but I am sure there must be Is it easy to access to replace them or best left to a body shop. They seem to be available on eBay so wondered about it. The car is a 1997 'P' plate ( is that a mark3 ?) Any advice gratefully received Cheers Patrick
  19. Hi there just wanted to say hello and babble about how pleased I am with my first Lexus. I drove a GS a few weeks ago and loved it but have always wanted a V8 so got this instead. Purists may not like the alloys but I think it looks great. Everything seems to work apart from drivers heated seat but the stereo is unlike anything I have ever heard- unbelievable It's got 137k with Lexus history to 100k then specialist after that- Campbelt changed twice and immaculate bodywork and interior. I have never been in such a quiet car and for £1600 I think it's a gift Any way just wanted to say hello Patrick
