  1. Roger did your upgrade allow you to put in the full postcode in the search, or is it still a restricted post code? thanks
  2. Mike - 400h is a superb caravan tow car - I tow a Bailey Unicorn Valencia with average towing mpg of 19/20, and solo 30/32. Rock solid for towing, and often is pulling at 60mph on electric only! Yes they can be expensive to repair, but then that is the price for a quality car, just be careful of the alloy wheels - most are rubbish on the 400h - don't know if they have solved this with the 450.
  3. RX400h is a great tug - I tow my caravan for about 5000 miles each year, and get between 18 and 20mpg, depending more on head winds or not. Have used it for towing over 3 years, and inclusing normal use, tyres are showing no signs of much wear. Very stable car, plenty of power, and 4 wheeel drive kicks in smoothly just when required.
  4. I don't know where 750kg has come from - I tow about 1500kg with ease on a 450h - it is a dream.
  5. Hmm - I had a full towbar and twin electrics fitted to my 400h (08 reg) just over a year ago for about £200 - in West Sussex. Lexus prices were just off the planet. I tow about 1.5 tons of caravan, and it is a dream - no bouncing, bucking, or swaying. Suspension barely moves down even with full load, and driving off a wet slope with the caravan, the 4 wheel drive pulls away easily. Best towcar I have had.
  6. Hi Newbie I bought my RX 400h specifically to meet the demands of towing my caravan - Bailey Valencia, which it is a dream to do. Tows immaculately, and we average 18 to 20 mpg with the 'van on the back. Around town mpg drops, and very short trips it only averages 25>27 mpg - but on trips over 10 miles we easily get up to 31. Longer trips mpg can be up to 35. It does not do a 3 mile trip on electric, unless it is crawling in traffic. Hope this helps. I looked at a Santa Fe, and the RX one hands down.
  7. if it is like all Toyotas then it is simple - just push both the lock and unlock buttons on the key together at the same time, near the car, and it re-synch's the key with the car.
  8. I took my RX400h to the local Chips Away, who were offering a special deal on refurbing alloys. The guy was really good, and said that he has this problem all the time with Lexus, and whilst he could do a quick refurb, it would not last. The Lexus alloy is so bad, that if Lexus will not provide a replacement wheel, then they need to be fully sand blasted, without the tyre and valve, to take all the old alloy off, and re-alloyed - he quoted me £65 per wheel plus VAT - I have not yet had the time/bottle to do this, but they are getting worse every day, so I will have to bite the bullet very soon. I cannot see the point in simple refurb, as the alloys would never restore properly - full blasting and re-alloy seems to me to be the only solution. As other points on this BB have said, Lexus just do not want to know.
  9. 400h is a beautiful car - except for the crap battery - if you want a great car, then follow the others on this site and fit a solar charger, or keep it on trickle charge in the garage. A real pain, and appalling for such a prestige car, but just put up with it.
  10. Referred by my Lexus dealer for the solution to flat battery caused by lousy battery capacity on RX400h
  11. I queried the battery issue with my Lexus dealer today, and he referred me to the Owners Club forums for the solution. Thanks for your advice above - narked that I have spent good money on a luxury car that can't be left in an airport car park - but grateful for your solutions.
