  2. Found my first problem with car. The socket in the tray under front consol and the one in the boot do not appear to be working .Thought I would try phone charger.it works in the cigarette lighter but not in the sockets.Tried ignition in both acc and ready position. Strange both not working ! Advice appreciated Best regards Chris
  3. I have an Iphone 5 with and use I tunes match for my music collection. So far have not decided on which way to go re in car entertainment the iphone5 has the lightning connector used on new apple products but have other devices ie wifes phone and ipads with the older connection. So far have found a simple £10 solution from Tesco which is a Griffin cassette to sound device with headphone jack. Its not where I want to be but it works remarkably well cutting im and out with the nav system amd radio traffic alerts. Sound quality not so great so would hope something like the vaistech would sound better even thiugh I dont have a Mark Levinson set up. Advice re nest way to go would be appreciated and for anyone looking for a cheap and imstant fix there you fo. Look forward to views ALL THE BEST CHRIS
  4. Thanks Colin I am still learning in regard to the hybrid system and hadnt realised this was possible thats good news. Much appreciated Chris
  5. After about a month with my 400h its fair to say I really love the car and believe it is the right choice. There are one or two things that frustrate/worry me though. Whilst not wishing to offend fellow Hybrids I confess to a dirty habit . In the summer when its really hot the car can be a haven of cool tranquility. When waiting for someone or an appointment time in my last car I could set the climate control and sit with the engine running watching the on board TV in relaxed cooled comfort. I know I know what you are thinking that nasty smelly diesel and destroying the planet. The same is going to apply when its minus 3 and I want to sit in the warm. From what I have experienced so far this cannot be done in the 400h. i also miss the telly and wonder if anyone has fitted one. Unless some one can tell me different this is a defiante downside with the car even sitting listening to the radio for an hour or so could potentially discharge the aux battery. Any views experiences or solutions would be much appreciated All the best Chris
  6. Thanks Dan and Rad whilst I would like the folding key think I will hang on as mine is working okay at the moment and it certainly doesn't look straight forward. Chris
  7. Has any one tried the new style folding key and succesfully paired with existing internals and managed to get the blade cut. I like the folding style. Other concern would be that the folding style fits the barrel and housing on the dashboard okay. Would like to try one but not without experience or informed advice. Best regards Chris
  8. This is well known to us Hybrid drivers as the aux battery on our cars is small and drains Over time. Principal is the same though being a Lexus your car has lots of kit and things like Alarms Central Locking Bluetooth etc all drain the battery when left any length if time. Some pointers if battery is a couple of years or more old suggest you replace it. AIso Suggest you do not use Lexus direct replacement batteries they are not their finest attribute go for a Bosch or Varta with a guarantee. Don't laugh at Solar chargers they work any car being left for a period of time will have battery drain and the solar charger trickle Charges it. AA do one that fits your Odb2 socket for around £35 this Socket has power to it all the time it's normally located under the dash but I am not sure on the Sc Another tip is to make sure the top of the battery is clean (baking soda and a little water) as grease and grime promotes battery discharge . Hope this helps Chris
  9. Thats Brilliant Colin just what I was looking for . Looks as though my spec is Just missing the ML Audio and rear DVDs which are fitted to the L it seems to have everything else. Much appreciated Colin All the best Chris
  10. Many thanks Cymro interesting Best regards Chris
  11. Good info Colin sure a number of us appreciate this. You mentioned the other day that you typically get 32 mpg . This is the same as I am achieving over my first month. Don't suppose there is a spec showing the standard features of the 400h SE nav anywhere I recently purchased the launch brochure published in 2004 which is a great buy but the focus is on the Hybrid system. Chris
  12. Think most of us have this problem .I want to get a really good refurb on mine and do not want to lose the shadow alloy effect. Can anyone recommend a really good refurbisher preferably in the Lincs/Humber East Mid area. Chris
  13. Thanks Colin this makes good sense. Think I mentioned I hope to keep car for around five years and as it is already 8 years old by that time and mileage resale value is going to be nominal. What I want is reliability and peace of mind and am sure that I will get that as long as I look after the car. Your detailed response is much appreciated Chris
  14. Not on my Lexus but both my wife and my mum have managed to get the buckles upside down more than once on my cars. Chris
  15. Mine does it to sounds to be Hereditry if its been paased on to the 450h as well. Chris
  16. Hi Colin Lexus mention a plan for older vehicles which gives a big and a small services plus two mot's over a two year period.Think it is around £24 per month for RX400H. See they have fixed rates for older cars for discs cambelts etc.Just wondered what experieces members had had and if they would recommend it. My two local (Ish) dealers are in Lincoln and Hull it would be nice if they gave a club discount but did not see them on the list. The second part related to older vehicle warranty i received a warranty with the car which can be extended.Undertatand the Hybrid side is for main dealer care but I am hoping for reliabilty here which was a major factor in choosing the car in the first place. The warranty does seem to cover lots of major items most of which are common to Hybrid and and Non Hybrid Cars. Just interested to get a view as this is a new experience for me.Have not used a main dealer for over 12 years and not had a warranty.Have however had my cars regularly serviced by specialist independants. My initial view is that the Hybrid perhaps requires a different strategy. Thanks for help and advice so far it makes a big difference. Chris
  17. Sorry Colin missing part of your message are you saying go with the essential care Chris
  18. My drive is sloping when I back in I stop the car on the brake put in park and put the foot brake on. Car rolls back about six inches and settles to a stop. It's quite steep and have my fingers crossed when the snow comes. Chris
  19. Just wondered if members could give their thoughts on the Lexus essential care package. Supplying non Lexus dealer serviced my 2005 400h se nav and put 12 months tax and a six month warranty 2000 plan on the car. Am wondering if to go for the essential care and also if to extend warranty 2000 for a couple of years or if there is a better alternative. Would appreciate any experience or thoughts my car has now done 42000 miles and I guess I do around 15000 miles per annum Thanks in advance Chris
  20. Sorry to hear that Paul absolutely shocking! Pleased Lexus sorted its straight away would say you have had the misfortune of a bad batch and this most unusual for a Lexus. Modern shocks usually up for Tens of thousands of mile I replaced mine at 150,000 miles on my last car as my local garage checked them during regular servces and found them to be fine. It is best to replace in pairs and would expect this of the dealer but had both failed or was it routine to replace both. Chris
  21. Is there any preventitive action as clearly Stuart has had some grief here. Is there a particular way of removing the key or should the barrel be lubricated (Always wary when electrics involved). I have noticed with mine that sometimes key removes easily and sometimes I have to press it in whilst turning . So as said wonder what is correct way. Chris
  22. Not so many in Lincolnshire although have seen quite a number of 450s recently. Chris
  23. The RX400H is a wondefull car Mohammed I had similar concerns.Didnt buy mine from a Lexus dealer but mentioned my concern re the aux battery having heard of the comments and they put me a new Exide one as part of the deal. I then ordered an AA solar charger which I plug into the ODB2 socket if I leave the car for any length of time although havn't done the fortnights holiday thing yet. The higher driving position is fantastic and it is strange getting back into lower cars once you have experienced it. You want for nothing in terms of standard equipment and can honestly say it is the most silent comfortable and easiest car I have ever driven and owned. JD Power placed it a no 3 in cars of the decade an accolade based on owners advising their evey day experience. Then there is the Hybrid aspect after nearly 40 years of driving I have driven many cars and this is a totally differrent experience seamless silence reasonable fuel consumption but with 0 to 60 in a touch over 7 seconds. There are one or to quirky things but all part of the cars overall character. The big ticket items are expensive if they go wrong in any expensive luxury car but with the overall reliabilty of the brand supported by owner experience you would be truly unlucky to have an inverter or main battery failure. All I can say is buying a car is a big decision use your head and your heart and youll know when you have found the right car. It will probably be a Lexus 400H Good Luck PS I would go for best overall condition and service history rather than mileage but check the belts been done on the higher one Chris
