  1. Hi Please help, I tried to jump start my IS250 and I seem to have fried something. I now have a check VSC warning, the car is in limp mode and will not go above 2000 rpm, I have had it towed to Lexus Birmingham in preparation for a big bill, are there any independent garages in Birmingham that could potentially fix this problem more cheaply than Lexus. I did the disconnect battery trick, it didn't fix the problem, a friend with a code reader told me its a throttle motor fault. Thanks
  2. It has been on my mind but I have since found some seats, black leather for £200.
  3. Does anyone know what is involved in swapping out my seats for higher spec ones. I have a 250SR - I love everything about the car except the seats. They are really quite bad. I have sourced used leather seats but really want alcantara which I have only ever seen is an is220d. Will the wiring be in place in my car or will it be a big job to swap to the heated and cooled leathers ? Thanks
  4. I have also just had this experience, going to book her in for alignment. Something we should keep an eye on I suppose.
  5. Hi Thanks for the responses, this is rather belated myself. I have found that using super fuel improves engine responsiveness emphatically and improves consumption. I now average about 32mpg which is fin really. I would like a filter and exhaust modification one day to make more of the lovely v6 sound. In my opinion as lovely as this car is, its 5% too refined given as its F Sport spec is making promises it doesn't quite deliver on. Still a lovely car, I just want to massage a bit more attitude out of it.
  6. BMW's outgoing 325i which was a 3.0 had 218hp and was a lot more frugal. The lexus 2,5 is very down on torque compared to modern turbos too. There is more to the picture, I know I have a 250, but I understand how after looking at the numbers many people decide that the IS250 is not the car for them,
  7. Hi, I have recently moved from IS200 to IS250. While I love the 250, it doesnt have quite the grunt I hoped it would. Has anyone got any expereince in getting a bit more power out of the 250? More than just power, some improved response would be nice. I am also only averaging 28mpg. What is the average MPG for most members? Thanks
  8. Thanks Ishaq, I will look into the lighting mod. Fortunately my car is garaged during the day so I seldom need to fold in the mirrors. Mine is an automatic. It is my first automatic car. It does make commuting less taxing but I do miss the control of the manual.
  9. Hi All, I have just graduated from IS200 to IS250. :) I am delighted with my new car, a 2008 IS250 SR. I have wanted one of these for a few years and read up on them extensively. I just wanted to know if there are any hints and tips that you can offer from the group's collective experience. I understand the mechanicals are pretty bulletproof but what mods and additional maintenance works well with these cars?
  10. Cheers for that advice, I am having my independent garage look at it. I just wanted to be well informed if he comes back with a silly price.
  11. Hi, My IS200 ignition key is sticking badly, I have read about this as widely as I can but I have found conflicting opinion. It jammed very badly yesterday but after some wiggling and WD40 I got it to move again. What do you suggest?
  12. 16", the user manual says that for this car on 16" if you are travelling at speed or loaded to run 38psi. That is unless I read it wrong.
  13. Well good news my second tank got me 32mpg, still on supermarket juice. The Snow mode thing seems to work very well on a run but it by my reckoning makes matters worse in stop start. The tyre pressures were also a little low, 30psi, now 38psi. I am very impressed at the difference just driving the car correctly makes. It is a big change from my Mazda 6, 2.0 which got the same economy no matter how you drove.
  14. Mine is a manual, I have tried driving in snow mode, From the position of the MPG gauge, it seems to make a very big difference. I am quite surprised. @PetayV8 - if you mention MPG on Pistonheads, you get lynched!
  15. "you can also try resetting your ECU after your fill up as the ECU might still have logs of the previous owners driving style compared to yours. disconnect your negative battery terminal reconnect it after about 15 - 20mins and ECU has been reset." Thanks for the tip @Noby76
  16. That's astonishing, I will be happy with 400.
  17. Thanks for your input. The last tank was Asda's finest, As is the current one, I will fill up on Shell next time and see if I get better mileage. I have a 15 mile commute, 10 miles motorway or fast A road and 5 miles steady going in town, occasionally there is a jam but I would expect any car to its combined ave on this trip. I will be getting a service in a month or so, so it will be good to compare economy before and after the service. I am always on top of the PSI but has anyone tried increasing their rolling diameter? Has anyone got better economy from K&N style filters? Also this catalyst is very old do they tend to fail? Does that affect economy? Anything that is affecting you economy may also be affecting your performance.
  18. Hi All, this is my first post. I am the new owner of a lovely but quite well travelled 2001 IS200. She has 108k on the clock and drives beautifully. I have just driven out my first full tank. from 59L I did 349 miles. That is about 26mpg, In my experience Jap NA engines usually score close to their official specs. I was hoping for 29mpg or a bit more. Do you have any tips based on experience of IS200 that are drinkier than usual? My car has a FSH and has only ever visited 2 garages. She is almost due her next service. I thank you for your constructive input. Matt PS: Please no snarky "Buy a diesel remarks" I am a petrol head, I just don't want my car performing worse than it should be.
