  1. Yes that'll be the detuned ford mustang 4.6 litre engine producing 260bhp-again known to be tuneable up to 400bhp. With the Rover diesel they are known to take a long time to warm the interior in winter and with all models the ECU is situated behind the engine in the plenums which need regular checking as they can retain rainwater and flood the ECU. Anyway enough of the Rover stuff. Buy a good one and it will last. I like my Lexus.
  2. I did similar-paid up front deposit without seeing the car from main Lexus dealer 150 miles away but with the promise it would be refundable if not as described. Well I am generally pleased with the outcome and they sent me an online video beforehand of the car to help make up my mind. Yes you can get a good deal privately if you have the 'readies' available and having spoken to the previous owner of my car, Lexus put 50% on top of the price they gave him in cash as he was retiring and didn't want a p/ex. However a decent p/ex for my old car and a 12 months approved warranty made the decision to buy easier. There are many cars out there with Lexus and from my experience there can be a marked difference between each franchise as to what you get for your money. If not happy-walk away or at least insist on a refundable deposit if the work agreed is not to standard. Just my thoughts.
  3. I've owned a couple of Rover 75s (petrol not diesel) and there is a great forum to glean info from.Diesel is chain driven so no belts to worry about.Manual clutch replacement can cost around £1K-buy an auto. There are 2 versions-114bhp and 131bhp.Choose carefully as the lower bhp is under powered. Can be upgraded with 'magic box' to around 160bhp. Some very high spec cars (Connoisseur and Contemporary models) with sat nav, cruise etc.Choose carefully -lot of car for little money.Well screwed together and loads of parts available. But not a Lexus as you can appreciate.
  4. cambelt 10years or 100k whichever comes first (my understanding)
  5. Hello My first post too. Just done exactly the same as you David 10 days ago-55 reg 300SEL from Lexus with 43K on the clock.Wouldn't class it as a 'bargain' as such but when you factor in the 12 months warranty (to buy with Warranty Direct is £560.00 for the year),the cambelts which needed doing on my previous car (£500) and RFL £200 a year less than what I was paying before on a 2.5v6 then for me it began to make more sense. And not a bad p/ex deal either. Still working my way through the owners manual which is a task in itself. Pretty well impressed up to now.
