  1. Thanks guys for all your input. Life is not easy, ha. I tend to think now they may indeed be dectracting from a styling point of view. Probably drawing too much attention to the wheels, and this being irrespectively of them clean or not... Considered also grey / gunmetal / titanium coloured but here the main gripe would be curbing them, as you also pointed out. Would have to park 0,5 m from the edge of the street and probably risk losing driver side wing mirror, not pleasant either! On the plus size - scratching these, being white / silver wouldn't be heartbreaking. Oh well, I'll probably stay with stock 16s for now. They do look too insignificant for me though.
  2. They're actually causing me sleepless nights already! So perhaps that's an indication.
  3. Yup, already know it's totally impractical. Just wondering if they're sexy enough to justify the pain. : )
  4. I'd suggest checking Spritmonitor.de, they have more than 20 ISes 300h (20 with 1500+ km on them, plus probably some others with less mileage). Mine will be there too. The only thing - you'd have to stomach somewhat thorny translation here and there. Our list.
  5. Getting a new car, or they said This Model Does That? :eerrrmm:
  6. So she arrived, waiting at the dealer, I’ll go tomorrow to say hi. Will need to wait two more weeks before picking the car up as the local tax law changes and the car will actually be cheaper in April by considerable margin, so no brainer here, but still it’s going to be even more excruciating. In the meantime, I’m hunting for accessories to pass the time… For this I’d need some advice - Do you experience a lot of brake pad dust on your front wheels? I’m considering white, and somewhat flashy rims, where black stuff would easily be visible, and surely annoying. On the other hand I don’t have too much problem with this on my current car (probably drive conservatively then) and I would expect hybrid to make use of conventional brakes even less often. Your thoughts? Regarding flashiness. I love consistency in design and form, and was considering these white rims. I think this would match well the car (it’s going to be white, of course). After spending a better part of the night podenring the switch, however, I’m having seconds thoughts on whether it complements the classy form of the car, or substracts from it rather. Would welcome some cool-headed opinion. And be open, if necessary, please. On the other forum I saw some disastrous effects of tuning shops' and owners creativity, usually involving black vinyl in random places, dropping the car half a mile, or - for this matter - putting fancy rims on it. Am I trying to do the same? Thanks a million! And here we go (I would try to get rid of the fiery-rocky logos): And in context (not nearly lexy enough, sorry!):
  7. Hi Adrian, I don't know it's on ALL the cars, just the unfortunate ones - I posted this problem last year and there hadn't been much reaction until now, so I guess most members don't have it. If you want to buy an IS300h and think you'll be doing a lot of driving at between 80 - 100km/h I'd recommend you make darn sure you have a written guarantee from your dealer that he'll replace it immediately if this phenomenon appears. Hi there, Thanks for your thoughts! The other John describes this rather eloquently as a design issue, in which case it should be there on all cars, only it occurs in very specific conditions, also, not all dirivers may notice / care about it. The point is I'm very attentive to detail and I will notice for sure and the other sure thing is it would drive me crazy. So there I am. I'm not so much wanting to buy but rather waiting for collection, in 4 weeks time or so, still I guess I can walk away from transaction, but I do want this car... Good point about speaking to the dealer about guarantees.
  8. Now, this has me increasingly worried. Should I cancel my order? Didn't notice any such phenomenon during my several test drives, but I guess it would be there in all cars, right? PS. John, thanks for excelent description of the problem. Anyone can perhaps make a short clip with the sound of it?
  9. Given the money we have spent on these vehicles it is less than satisfactory. From this perspective I fully agree. And believe me, I'm coming from IT background so like all the latest gimmicks. It's only that car manufacturers seem to be years behind mainstream electronic producers especially in terms of user experience. The Lexus platform itself seems to be unstable, outdated and semifunctional. But so is the case with many other car infotainment systems. I would personally wish the car dashboard was "liberated" i.e. free for developers to take over, as is the case with mobiles. There will come a day I will connect (wirelessly) my mobile to take over infotainment system in the car. Just not yet, and not this car. To recap, as much as I understand that car systems need to be mission critical, this being the argument for keeping the technology proprietary, it seems to be a dead end. They're neither stable, nor very useable. The market and consumers will eventually prevail. Not in this decade, probably, though. And while I'm waiting for the car I do wish Lexus sort all these annoying quirks! Only text reading would be my last priority. Hope I made myself a bit more clear this time! : )
  10. This is really minor, no? I wouldn't want my messages to be read out loud in the first place, anyways. Not to mention that in my language this functionality will be implemented probably in the next decade or so. I'm not bothering in the meantime then... : )
  11. Thanks Bobby and Richard! Then I'll ask for this to be customised before delivery. PS. By the time little darlings arrive I'll have another set of wheels most probably. So far the only little critter is non-human and she's not so kin on travelling. Will keep in mind when the time comes! : )
  12. You shouldn't have too much dust with the hybrid anyway? I would think regenerative braking should help here a lot, but again, this will depend on driving style. Also, am wondering if it's a grey alloy, or coating only on these rims? Would hate to think how it looks curbed with coating scratched.
  13. Just a quick question - can you confirm it's for all windows or for front only? Have read somewhere it works for front row only which would be disappointing, and I probably wouldn't bother.
  14. Welcome to the cloud then. : ) It's the future of computing. Also, it will trickle down to car dashboards, we'll just need to wait a decade or two for car manufacturers to adopt new technology.
  15. This has me wondering, actually. My current car has 30.ooo km service interval, in spite of all the start and stop technology putting strain on engine and it being Italian which supposedly should mean it could require towing to the dealer several times during this period. No such thing and the engine runs smooth as butter after 3 years, no oil consumption whatsoever. And now - why would I have to service my new Lexus every 15k km, which is even less than your 10k miles, and this in spite of the fact that for good third of the distance ICE should be shut down? Not getting the logic.
  16. I'm on the same boat I think, so I'll post my considerations, though theoretical as still waiting for delivery. After lots for thinking I went for camera only, and no sensors, should work just fine for me, the only problem might be in bad weather and low-light conditions - not sure how quickly the lens attracts dust and dirt. I mean I could deal with somewhat blurry picture, if it's still a picture not a black screen. Will see. As for non-leather upholstery it's not velour-like or alcantara. It's basically leather-like stuff only smelling plastic instead of bovine and probably less durable too.
  17. As Bridgy said, these two methods are the simplest. I copied the file via Dropbox, as it's quite big. Otherwise you can use iTunes, click the "Apps" tab in the top row, scroll down and you'll see "File sharing" section - choose your preferred application, iBooks or Adobe Reader for example, put the file in the right box and synch the iPad. It's non-intuitive and cumbersome, sure. One of the reasons I will one day switch to Android for my mobile computing... Just not yet, though. ;) PS. That's from Mac iTunes, but Windows should be the same. And you do need iTunes, can't copy it with Explorer, as far as I know.
  18. Link works fine, just don't do it on iPad, the website doesn't seem to be mobile friendly. Downloaded the PDF on desktop and copied to iPad afterwards.
  19. My thoughts would be that on the motorway you won't be able to beat German diesels, especially the ones tuned for economy. In the city it should be other way around. I'm speaking from research standpoint and a few days of test drives, as still waiting for delivery. I chose this car for the looks and the near silent low speed gliding effect. Love it! As for reliability, it should require little maintenance, I believe. The battery should last lifetime and hybrid drivetrain is really robust, more so than a modern diesel, or direct injected, turbochared gasoline engine. Only this thread with low-rev vibrations worries me a bit. Wouldn't mind some convincing on this account as well... ; )
  20. Thanks for your replies! Yes, I know it's the US thing, as I actually learned about this on the other Lexus forum which is quite busy in fact though it's actually dedicated to IS 250/350 as they're not getting IS hybrid. Only thought it might be sold in Europe as well. Probably should have asked my dealer in the first place, but what's the internet for?! No, the system is about opening garage gates, parking doors, so you don't have to carry around the key fob. It's not without its challanges as some of the implementations don't handle stronger cryptography correctly (probably good for the safety of your house, anyway) which renders it useless, or cumbersome at best. So, I guess I'll resort to keeping the key fob in the cup holder. David, will work on the pics after taking delivery. It's going to be warm metallic white, whatever it's called (the non-f-sport hue). As much as I love F-Sport grille, couldn't justify the price of the full trim level which was the top one here.
  21. Hi Guys, New forum member here from Poland, pretty cold nowadays. Seems this may be the closest forum to home that has any meaningful activity for this car, so I may stay a while if you don't mind. Also, I've been lurking around for quite some time and find your insights very useful. A million thanks for that! So, to the point, I'm waiting for the delivery of IS 300h, which should happen some time in March, and as much as agonising the wait can be I of course am having second thoughts (320d, anyone?), so the forum is a good resource for keeping me convinced and reasonably sane! Again, to the point. I was smart enough to mess my configuration quite a bit by stepping one trim level down and adding options on top of that, which is fine, as long as I haven't omitted something that I may find out I need really very badly, and can't live without, no-no. Which at this point I think I haven't. But then, it seems, that a wiper sensor which I really find rubbish and crossed out may come with Homelink and auto dimming reverse mirror. I don't mind auto dimming thing but I could find use case for Homelink if it's really there and - more importantly - if it works, as I've been reading about some "rotating codes" for which you need to press the fob anyway (which would kill the whole thing for me anyway). Anyone can shed some light on this? I guess I could still cancel the order and wait for diffenent config, or something... Thanks in advance!
