  1. Thanks found the post and looks alright. Looks like Lexus designs them with that in mind.
  2. Before you start - I just realized the typo on the thread subject.... and I cannot edit the thread subject.... :(
  3. Having done around 1800 miles now - mpg hovering 42-44mpg per tank depending on percentage of city/A roads. Warmer weather definitely did help with the short trips mpg.
  4. When I took delivery of my NX F-sport, I did ask the dealer if I would need headlamp adapters to drive through Europe. He said the full LED headlights do not need headlamp adapters due to the special shape of the beam. I would not like to land in hot water with a french policeman - so has anybody got a second opnion on this? Dom.
  5. My experience is that starting from cold - no matter what you do, it will start the petrol engine to warm it up. Once engine is warm, then I can get easily in eco/normal/sport mode from 0 up to 30 mph (or a bi higher) without firing up the petrol enginer.... it only takes patience, foot management and a loooooong time. I found it is pretty useless to try to get from 0 to 30 on electric mode only - you waste a lot of battery - far better for the fuel consumption a short burst of petrol enginer to 30 and then keep 30 on electric.... and it will go on and on and on - I have done 3 miles on electric only at 30 mph.
  6. I reached my first 1000 miles during last weekend. The average over those 1000mile has been 36.1 mpg. (As measured by the car). I have now reset the counter - so lets see the difference with the warm weather.
  7. Yes sport s+ comes with the AVS option. On cars with AVS, sport s only increases throttle response. sport s+ increases throttle response, tightens steering and stiffens suspension. I preordered mine, after seen some reviews about how hard the ride was in F-Sport, but without actually have test-driven it, so ordered it just in case. About a month or so after the pre-order, I test drove an F-Sport without AVS, and I found it fine - but the roads where I tested it were not particulaly bad. If I had to choose again, I think I would get it again. On motorway in normal suspension mode at 7x mph, feels pretty much like flyiing carpet. Change it to sport s+ and you definitely get a feel for the road below. Have not used the paddle shifters yet other than to test they work when I took delivery.
  8. Well the fuel figures are another story - I was going to give an update at the 1000 miles (currently on 960). Essentially, I am on 38.5 mpg - and consistently getting 40+ mpg on out of town runs of 10 miles. It has really improved now that the weather is not so cold. The initial warm up period is what really screws the average mpg - in the trip to the supermarket (2.5 miles) I get 25 mpg on the way there.... and 50-55 on the way back! On normal mode. For my trials with sport s/s+ mode, it is very rev happy, so I have a feeling it will affect the fuel consumption. As far as it does not damage anything - I would keep it always in sport s mode (so far sport s+ only reserved for motorway)
  9. I also found the "power delivery delay" issue a few days back when about to overtake some cyclists - essentially cruising along at around 30 mph behind the cyclists, then put my foot down to overtake as fast as possible (I was in normal mode, and did not use any paddles.... just foot down). So you notice the car starts gaining speed slowly (very slowly, it is like if you are in 5th gear on a manual petrol on motorway and you put your foot down) and then around maybe 0.5/1 sec later, you notice a sort of "torrent of power" giving you the kick. That one feels really nice, the only thing is that it comes a bit late. It is like the car is thinking - does he (the driver) really want full power or can he do with a little....? I need to test this in sport mode, and see if I still have the same delay. I have a feeling it will not be there. Does anybody know if keeping the NX constantly in sport mode is bad for transmission/hydrid drive train? Still really happy with the purchase - it is unbeatble smooth once you get to speed. Dom.
  10. Pretty much agree - things to improve for me would be 1) tailgate slow 2) offer memory seats on F-sport 3) make clear all the differences between standard nav/premium nav 4) the lower part of the inside of the doors gets really dirty - I am not sure what the design constrain was to not have standard sills - but the amount of muck it gets.... and 5) the half opening boot cover, I rather have a fully opening one - it makes the use of the boot a bit ackward.
  11. Right, so we had some snow this morning in SE London/Kent - admitedly not much (may be about 1-2 inches). But ground was very cold ( it was -3.5 before it started snowing) so snow did not melt when car went over it - but formed a nice slippery layer of packed snow. So far very pleased, takled two ungritted slopes (on one of them intentionally stopping in the middle and then get going again) and the traction control light did not blink once and had no trouble getting moving - much better than my previous front wheel drive Accord automatic which in same situation would have had traction control on an off in the same kind of situation. Braking was another matter - still ABS getting on, and taking its fair amount of time to come to standstill - I guess the only real way to improve that is winter tyres. Overall very pleased - it is my first 4x4, so I cannot compare with other 4x4s.
  12. I'm not sure if it's the only difference but the premium Nav gives access to the Lexus portal, or "connected" services feature. It enables things like street view for your destination and the ability to send your destination to the car from your computer and it downloads as a memory. I've actually found that quite useful, it doesnt save you any time in the context of your life, :) as you've still got to key the destination, but it does mean you can jump in your car press a button and go. Apart from that only the premium gives you the compass on the center-dash multi information display. The icons are completely different from one to the other. There is one thing about the standard that I particularly do not like and it is that if feels sluggish when navgating it (like an underpowered computer/smartphone - that sor of sluggish. When I did the test drive, the test unit had the premium one and I do not remember noticing any sluggishnes... although did not play much with it to be fair.
  13. It did not occur to me to ask for a printed version, well done. What I did is download the online manual (PDF) to my phone and I have it at hand every time I want it. The piece that I do not like is that all the documentation on sat nav seems to refer to the "premium" satnav, I have not found the online version of the "standard" satnav yet.
  14. I have the F-Sport with the interior all black and I love it - it gives a different edge over nowadays standard grey top / black bottom (I would never consider a light upholstery - I would worry too much about staining it). Glad the first reports of snow handling are good - also bearing in mind the factory fitted tyres are nothing special. I am still waiting to test mine - here in SE London we have not have much snow to speak of yet - that may change tonight!
  15. Yes the Latitude Tour HPs are available on 225/60 R18. For reviews, I like this site: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/surveydisplay.jsp?type=CSTAS Pirelli Scorpion Verde all-seaons are better - but not available in 225/60 size. The Continental LX20s are not sold here - but here you have the continental LX2s which seem the same (at least have the same thread) - I am waiting for some review of the LX2s here in UK (or Europe), but those ones would be my pick.
  16. Interested to hear what the outcome of this is - I have a Lexus NX parked on a tight garage, so even when a tow truck can come up my drive way, not sure how it would move the car in first place - there is little space around it to hack it up.
  17. My plan was to try the Duelers in the snow this year - my driveway is on an gentle upward slope and then make decission in time for next years service (since I do low mileage - around 5K year - I am on the yearly schedule). Though I am beginning to have my doubts if we will have snow this year.... I know that swapping summer and winter tyres would be best - but it would be be the cost of the wheels + tyres + TPMS valves, then storing the winter tyres (I think I could that that at home but I would have to think about exactly how, not easy). Then having them fitted every 6 months (although I could get a wheel gun and do it myself) and then I guess you need to do frequent wheel alignments. For where I live and my mileage (I do not need the car for work), I do think it is a bit overkill - we do not get black ice patches here or at least on the roads I use. The problem with running winters all year is that I do some trips to spain the summer - and there is little (or none at all) literature about how fast winter tyres degrade with asphalt temperatures of 40C+ (or 100F+). But what I have read is not good at all - quotes like "they would not reach the next oil change" and things like that for a test I found they did in California with winter tyres. Autosocks would be a last resort "get out of jail" card in case it gets so bad the duellers or M+S tyres would not cut it.
  18. A couple of days I go I noticed that the anti-fog lights (at least on F-sport) turn on themselves when making a slow turn (like getting out of the parkng bay etc) and dipped lights on... I read about them - the cornering lights - but I always wondered if you had to have the anti-fog lights on form them to swivel.... not needed, they turn on/off themselves when they think they need to. Really nice feature. Dom.
  19. 500 miles update - average 36.5 mpg. Have changed my driving style in this period - first tried to use electric mode as much as possible, but battery depleted quckly and engine needed to cut in to recharge it. Much better to drive it a bit more "normal" that keeps the battery charged and does not seem to affect consumption that much - in longer stints seems to improve it.
  20. Thanks Colin, Acutally I have done a bit more research since I posted, and I am between 2 options at this moment: - Keep the Duelers (and/or go with M+S when the Duelers are less than 4 mm) and have a pair of autosocks if the all wheel drive is not enought to keep me moving. - I have found Nokian does a "proper" all season tyre - WRG3 - amazingly 225/60 R18 100W (I wonder which model they were for that required certification up to 270kmh). Not sure which one I will pick between those two, but I am happy that I have the whole range of options covered now. I am ful aware that no tyre will cover summers in Spain and winters here without some tradeoffs.
  21. Happy new year to everybody! For what I have seen many people have gone over this subject for other models, and the discussion with Jamie a few weeks on a separate part of the forum was quite revealing too, but let me add a bit of a twist here. My NX 300h F-sport came with Bridgestone Dueler H/L 33 tyres (225/60 R18). These are classified as summer tyres (no M+S marking or snowflake) - no surprises there. With my previous car, I always had a set of chains in case things got really bad, however, for the NX, the user manual clearly mentions you cannot mount snow chains on 225/60 R18 wheels. Living in the South East, my plan was to switch to M+S tyres (Michelin Latitude Tour HPs or similar) at some point (I know they are not true all season, but I think they would do the job in 2-4 inches of snow). However, the problem comes should I decide to go to the Alps - since tyres without snowflake symbol are not accepted and I cannot mount chains: I have considered switcing to winter tyres all year round - but there is very little information about what happens to those when you drive in lets say 35 C heat (trips to Spain in the summer). The very few reviews/articles I have found seem to suggest that they degrade very fast - in fact so fast that you would run the risk of pucture/explosion. But again, there is very little information and nothing cosistent - manufactures do not seem to publish it. So a few options: - Buy set of winter tyres (without wheels) on 225/60 18 size and swap them with the summer ones every 6 months... the process of taking a tyre off the wheel and back seems to me to cause stress to the tyre, I do not feel very conftable with that approach. - Buy set of 17 inch wheels (225/65 R17) and have winter tyres on them. Then swap wheels every 6 months... would I need a set of TMPS valves with them if so that is getting a very expensive proposition? - Buy set of 17 inch wheels (225/65 R 17), fit all-seasons to them with snowflake symbol (Vredenstein Quatrac 3 SUV or similiar) and store/sell the 18 inch wheels - I really like the 18 inch wheels so I do not like that option, but it may be most practical one! Have you got any thoughts? I guess I am not the only one thinking about it.... Thanks. Dom.
  22. @DJP. Very pleased so far. I am coming from a 2005 accord 2.4 auto and it is definitely smoother (though the engine of the accord sounded better from the outside). Handling is pretty much on par with the accord (I went for AVS). In terms of performance it is pretty much the same, but it is more difficult to tell what speed you are doing on the lexus than it was on the accord. Consuption much better from around 28 mpg, I have definitely noticed the difference there. It is my first SUV, so still getting used to sit taller on the road. It is taking some adaptation period for me. I expect my consuption to reach around 38-40 mpg when I start using it normally (rather than test mode that I am doing now)
  23. So far really pleased, but something things still getting used to. I really like the smoothness of the car. In terms of ride, I got the F-Sport with AVS, and seems to do a very good job (compared with my previous accord, left in normal it is a bit more conftable, on sport+ mode a bit less conftable but handles better. I test-drove the f-sport without AVS and I like the ride too, but it was on good roads. Just to see the difference between "normal" setting and "hard" setting on the suspension, I tried "hard" on a not very well maintained country road, and that was unconfable.... however for motorway, I like the "hard" setting. Performance still undecided- I do not really want to push it too hard yet, but unless you floor it, seems slower than my previous 2.4 acccord. Comsumption - very pleased even when I am not anywhere near quoted figures, but the fact that I can do 350 miles with a tank (my accord struggled to do 250) I am really pleased. So far 33.7 and climbing. SatNav - I think I prefer touchscreens for ease of use. Though I like the viewing position of this one more than my accord (which had it central column). Still trying to get the right driving position though - the sits are supposed to be the very best, but still not used to the new anti-whiplash headrests (this is all new cars, not just lexus) where seems to be unconftable to actually rest your head :)
