I assume you supplied the parts? Don't get a lot for £100 these days, I'd assume genuine Lexus parts( warranted) plus labour can't be much less than the op's £570.

  2. It's fixed as I phoned around and all quoted the same £445, I ended up going to Milton Keynes. I agree, I think it's a lot, the 10k service intervals also too short, I'll end up doing 18k this year, more than normal so will be almost two services in a year, most other manufacturers would only require one which be way cheaper. Only downside of ownership though, everything else is good.

  3. Linda.p- Let's get real, the only reason anyone would consider the is250 over a is200t is price, it's miles cheaper, all the rest are excuses to make you feel better. The new IS is a better car all round, if the criteria for a car was to FEEL fast we'd all be in go-carts. Things move one, the is250'is just old now, nothing wrong with that but it's delusional to say it's underpowered by any measure apart from what's in your head!

approved used car is a car that come with a complete lexus sevice history

lexus dealers will not sell a car that doesnt have the full lexus service history,

This is not quite true, a Lexus dealer can carry out the last service, sprinkle some magic dust and it becomes an "Approved Used car"
    Important bit below:

"Vehicles with an incomplete or non Lexus centre service history can only qualify as an approved Pre-owned Lexus once the retailing Lexus centre completes the most recent major service. The centre must then update the service record book to provide to you."

Yep, but you probably wouldn't be  ........  and then you'll enjoy it even more and in the meantime be able to pay your normal monthly outgoings for one's family without undue pressure .....

BUT of course it's always a personal choice whatever one does, but throwing £20 notes on the bonfire seems a little strange to me .........

.......... as I said. maybe it's coz i am an OAP , in a timewarp and with too much spare cash, possibly got there by not splashing out on a new car every year or two .......  just making do with my limo and 0 - 60 in 6.9 secs and 155 mph ( still ) :winkiss:

    Malc

Fair enough, but you're also only one repair bill from the scrapyard!! 😁

I know I'm living in a timewarp with my Ls400  but for heavens sake, do you guys feel happy paying out £718 a month, presumably from your after taxed income, for a car ? that's going to have zilch value to you when you do change to another ?

You'd be heaps of ££££ better off by popping that £718 ( plus the tax relief presumably making it possibly £1000 a month  ) into your pension pot and buying something you actually NEED for maybe a couple of  months effective payments, rather than maybe a status symbol AND into your pension pot, assuming a return tax free on FTSE equities , if that's your thing, of about 4% pa which grossed up year on year to your retirement will provide a better time for you later in life AND of course you can maybe take 25% of that in tax free cash anyway at the time.

Just my thoughts...............  from an OAP with more money than sense maybe and happy with the best built car ever on the road ..... and still  0 - 60 in 6.9 secs and 155 mph :yahoo:

    Malc

Problem is you might be dead or unfit to drive after you've finished putting all this money into your pension!!

However, I'm no fan of PCP but there  is a middle ground, I picked up a new contract hire (PCH) IS300h Exec in 2015 for £185 + vat (plus 6 upfront payments), 2 year deal which in total cost me £6600 or £3300 per year, less than the car depreciated in the two years. Why pay all that interest and balloon payments when you can just return the car and get a new one. I'll admit that was a good deal but you can still get one for about £270 + vat now, got to be better than a £700 PCP and that's for a brand new one. Look out for the Lexus offers when they need to shift numbers.

  7. WBAC are actually spot on with IS values, I got £16250 from them, much less from Evan Halshaw, but eventually they matched and gave them a little.  This was more than the Lexus px of £15500, I ended up selling privately for £16500. This was for a 23 month old exec with low mileage and full history. Expect just over half from main dealer at 2 years, forget what you see them advertised for, they've been there for ages.

  8. I think the difference with the current £10 tax and £310 for Premier will make a lot of people think, I'd have to question if those extra's are really worth it, one of the lower priced models will give you 98% of the same driving experience, if you've got money to burn then you'll be looking at a new one.

The way IS prices are going, I think it will be £20k in two years not three!

  9. When I recently needed repairs I originally took it to Lexus, bit of rip off I think. Lexus then sent it to a third party repairer, as it happens the third party repairer was on my insurance companies approved list, my insurance company refused to let Lexus handle the repair, all that would happen is Lexus send them an inflated bill for doing nothing, the work would be identical. Lexus dealer desperately tried to challenge the decision  but my insurance refused, Lexus  tried to say that when the car was returned to them they'll hold onto it until they get paid from my insurance company, at that point I just wanted my car back,  I was getting  annoyed with their attitude, the insurance company simply told me to collect it from the repairer directly. I probably could have requested that Lexus deal with it but difficult to argue when Lexus added very little value, in all honesty they delayed the repair so they could get their cash. Not saying they don't deserve to get paid, but the additional fees they charge are unreasonable.

The job was perfect, Lexus wanted to charge a massively inflated price for at the most checking the car and issuing an "approved Lexus" paperwork. The loan car they said they provided was not a Lexus and had the same third party logo plastered on it so hardly their car.

Lexus Woodford, other dealers around London offering 5-10% if anything at all. Unfortunately you have to stick with that dealer for the servicing as they're all franchises and the service plan is funded through their chosen finance partner etc.

Cheers, thanks for that, my closet would be Hatfield or Milton Keynes, I'll ring them to see what discount I can get, if any.

  11. I changed the Battery and it's not that, both mechanical keys open the door so should be correct, however if you put the two mechanical key side by side there is very small differences, some of the groves are not identical. But close enough to open the door. All the numbers on both key fobs match.

Could someone please look at both of their mechanical keys and have a look if there is a slight difference, maybe the machining is not that accurate which doesn't seem very Lexus

Hopefully the key is the right one and the dealer will remarry them.

  12. I've not used the spare key I have until yesterday (I know, should have tested it earlier!), when you press it the red light comes on but it doesn't do anything. I thought they might have mixed up the keys at the dealership when I purchased it but I opened the car using the hidden steel key (alarm went off) so must be the correct one. Is there anyway the key can be made to work or is it a dealer issue, car is still in warranty?

The Battery was disconnected recently, not sure why that would affect the spare key, unless it happened to both and they repaired the one they had.

    thanks

  13. I'm sure you'll get just as many examples for the oil being absolutely fine after 20k miles, oils have moved on and £265 for a basic oil change is a lot for an IS. £445 for a main service not such a bargain either.

why would bother to send the oil away for testing on a leased car then not bother to do what they recommend?

Still, would be interested to find out why the NX is cheaper than the IS for servicing.
