  1. Arrrrhh! just tried what DJP selected and Voilà it works. Thanks! It will teach me for being a .........
  2. Hi I have an IS300h f-sport which has the "LFA" style gauges. I have noticed on many models that when the main dial is moved to the right and the "i" tab is selected it appears information such as fuel economy etc. However, on my car it just displays a blank screen on the "i" tab. Does anyone know how to change this? See attached image. Thanks
  3. Mine is an F-sport with AVS and 18" wheels and I am very impressed with the AVS indeed. I agree there is only a slight difference between ECO/Normal then Sport/Sport + but when I test drove an F-sport without it it was notably harder. An option definitely worth having. I found that if you really throw mine around the bends it is very composed all assisted by the AVS, no doubt. The F-sport without AVS appeared to be unsettled over uneven surfaces in comparison especially when going around bends.
  4. Hi I also agree with comments regarding the somewhat aggressive nature of the bootlid on the 300h! When released, either using the key-fob or internal switch it does just unlock and move up a few centimeters which is fine. It is when you then open it with your hand and gently let it go thinking it is going to smoothly open and it doesn't. It appears to offer no dampening at all and flys up to the stop. The quality of the bootlid is questionable too. It really does sound flimsy to me when you shut it with your hand. On other cars the boot lid appears heavier and is well dampened when you let it go. Agree this is a weight saving measure but most other areas of the IS 300H feel of a much high quality so why couldn't they do it here? Come on this is a Lexus not a Morris Marina! Foot operating parking brake is odd to begin with but very quickly I got used to it and now actually quite like the design. In a crash situation the foot-brake is designed to move upwards and such an angle to miss your leg. In such crashes where it would likely smash into your legs or other body parts then this would be the least of your worries. The only really negative comment I have is with the Sat Nav and Infotainment system in general. I have the premium Nav with ML sound etc. Although I am used to the remote mouse now and have no issues with that aspect, the whole system is way to complicated and the Sat Nav especially is way too fiddly with far too many options. Forget trying to decyper on the move you will crash! Graphics are also a bit dated. My last motor was a BMW with premium Nav and the IDRIVE system is much more user friendly and just 'works' better than that offered by Lexus IMO. Couldn't believe how big the Lexus manual for the Sat Nav etc is too! Paint appears to chip easy but that's modern water based paints for you most manufacturers have that issue. Every other aspect of the car - brilliant. I love it.
  5. In my opinion the lights on the Lexus IS 300H at night are fine. I have driven many cars with HID's and in the Lexus they are more than acceptable. Perhaps the older folk need to go to the opticians or considering reducing their driving at night ! We need to compare like with like.. There are many factors that make up a good light and not just whether the "bulb" is LED, HID or even Halogen! I suspect though that overall LED's are better - they should be, the technology is newer and continues to advance at quite a rate. My take on LED's: Unlike halogen bulbs, which use a filament that degrades over time, LEDs are simply semiconductors with no wear-and-tear parts. In theory, they should last the lifetime of the car. LEDs also require less electricity than halogen bulbs, reducing CO2 emissions and drain on the battery. And the light produced by LEDs is much closer to daylight, making it easier on the eye and reducing glare. The main disadvantages of LEDs are cost and heat dissipation. Because they don’t produce significant heat, LED headlight lenses are at risk of frosting over in winter – dramatically reducing light output.
  6. Not noticed that issue at all, also can't see why it would be different to the IS 300h. When it needs to the petrol engine should kick in to maintain your chosen cabin temperature. Have you tried using the heated seats and taking some hot tea and a blanket with you?
  7. Hi I have owned several cars from a few manufacturers (below). Most recently in fact only 1 month ago I purchased a 300h and, so far I am very impressed by the car and whole Lexus experience. What I struggle with is how 'stupid' motoring journalists don't appear to get it and frequently give it lower scores when piched against BMW, Audi, Merc - why? I test drove their equivalent models before I choose Lexus. I can safely say without hesitation the Lexus was so much more impressive in pretty much all respects. 8. Hi I am getting around 42mpg on a 7 mile commute start/stop traffic. Did a long run of ~50 miles at the weekend, 30 on a motorway at 70mph with the remaining on A roads at 40-50 mph and got 48 mpg in "normal mode". I don't think that is bad at all; the weather is pretty cold at the moment. It's a fact that batteries and engines will not be as efficient in during cold weather. Haven't had the F-sport long, so don't know what I will get in warmer weather but expect around 50mpg.
  9. Hi Finally got around to a photo of the repair. Sorry didn't take a photo of the damage but as you can see the repair at the bottom of the wheel isn't bad. Top stills needs doing. I don't think my alloys are originals or were purchased as an option. Would value an opinion.
  10. The wheels look black ish to me but agree they are not jet back that's for sure. I just happen to use a particular branded spray paint which calls itself "satin black" which appears to have worked well. I will photo them and post the results! As I said I am a new owner perhaps these were an added option by the previous owner? They are definitely lexus alloys though. Anyway I will post a photo, indicate where the damage was and hopefully all can see the results.
  11. Hi all I am the new proud owner of an IS 300H f-sport in ultra blue. Traded in a BMW for it and having had the beast for a week I have definitely made a sound decision IMO. We already have another hybrid so I was keen. I have owned many types of cars from many manufactures over the years and this is the best all rounder by far for me. Lovely design, so comfortable and rewarding to drive so very impressed. Dealership had done a touch up on two of the wheels which had very slight gutter rash but it was not to my liking. I am very fussy with my cars and having repaired kerbed alloys on BMW's before I thought I would have a go at these despite the problem of paint matching. I used wet and dry to prepare the damaged area then 3 costs of Halford's, grey primer followed by black satin and finally a satin lacquer to seal. Two friends and the wife cannot see where the repairs have been done and neither can I. It's a perfect colour match in sun, shade all sorts. Save your money I would say and go for it, you will not be disappointed in the results.
