  1. Guys,

this car has been in and out of auction for quite a while (I'm a car dealer). Its had a stint at Parks Motor Group for a while - retail, who have failed to sell it and its now auction bound again.

Its a 5 owner car with 31k miles. Not ideal, but it can happen with high performance/high running cost cars.

Anyone know anything about the car? Its a bit of a long shot, but worth a post!

    Cheers,

    Stevie

Those wheels really do suit the car! What are they again?

Have you noticed a ride improvement over the 19's?

    Hi CB,

its not really a fair comparison. I've switched from 19inch MPS 4S to CUP2s which I'd imagine are stiffer in construction. I'm not really bothered with ride comfort too much. The Penske shocks with the RR RAcing Spring rates are, what my geo man described as - race car stiff. Still, it managed a fairly comfortable family run to the South of France last June 🙂

Thank God the French roads are beautifully flat!! lol

The wheels are just cheap Bolas. Once I know for sure its going to be a good track day companion, its looking like a set of forged SSR wheels, but until then, its these cast dumbbells. 😞 I was willing to gamble with 700, not 2000! Plus, Bola were the only guys who could supply me 18x9.5 ET45

  3. Its coming along!

Got the car back yesterday and managed a few average phone pics in the rain with the new wheel/tyre combo on. Race fluid, HEL lines and Carbontec pads fitted, but not visible in photos. Off to Lexus for annual service on Tuesday, then its all go for the year ahead, although I have a major hankering for a boot spoiler/wing now!! I'm going to hold off to make sure it does indeed perform on track first, then might treat it to a bit of carbon fiber as a treat 🙂

    Cheers,

    Stevie

@Steviebee I too have tracked my 2008 ISF at the Nurburgring Nordschleife

Completed around 40 laps over course of 2 weekends and she never missed a beat mechanically.

    My only issues were...

4 laps and the tank was empty.

Rear tyres overheated so had to tweak pressures as most of my laps were completed with 3 passengers who wanted a ride.

On last trip the OEM Brembos discs started to give up the ghost and spider cracks appeared which began to cheesegrate the OEM pads 😞

Next trip is in June so hopefully she performs just as well (discs and pads replaced obvs)

    good luck with yours 🙂

40 laps! Good lad!! I'm sure I've watched some of your footage on YT? One of your videos (the one where you where swearing quite a bit! lol) has over 10k views! 4 Laps till empty!! Wholly ****, thats like back in my Evo days! Still, fairly heavy car with 5.0L, can't really expect much else. Worth every L of fuel though 🙂

My plan is just to run the std discs and replace as needed. I've learned money is mostly better spent on the best pads you can buy, and use up std discs to keep the costs down. U have a race prepared MINI Cooper S and the discs are 20ea. but the pads are 140.00! Works a treat.

I tracked mine. It was very capable on ‘big power’ tracks like Silverstone. Huge grunt and the brakes never showed any hint of fading, even when standing on them from almost 140mph at the end of Hangar Straight into Stowe. I was on standard tyres but as mine had a H&S exhaust, I was a bit restricted which circuits would let me play - it was rather loud! Fuel economy dropped to 4-6mpg and as long as I restricted myself to about 15 mins at a time, the tyres held up! I have no doubt that on twisty, technical circuits however, my S2000 would run rings around it - I found the ISF to be fairly nose-heavy, but easily neutralised with a bit of gas. Mine was an early ‘08 without the mechanical LSD - I can’t say I noticed. I was having far too much fun. It all came to an end about an hour before the end of the day last time though, when I picked up a screw in the rear left! D’oh!

Looking forward to reading about your experiences!

Mr Funex, thats all positive stuff. I too have the H&S Exhaust, and its far from quiet!! Does sound good though. Agree on the car being nose heavy. I found quite a bit turn in over steer on the brakes, but quite enjoyed that aspect of the cars handling. With the two way adjustables, I should be able to dial some of that out by turning up the compression damping at the front to help cut down some of the weight transfer under braking. One thing I was impressed about when I had the car on, was the balance. Very predictable and easily caught and balanced on the throttle.

  6. Evening all, not posted for quite some time!

After many a night researching track wheel fitment & tyres, I finally got round to ordering and fitting my new wheels and tyres, for what I hope to be a great year ahead, exploring some of the bigger more open circuits down south (I'm from Scotland, and we only have Knockhill).

I settled on square 18x9.5 and chose to play it safe, opting for an ET45 offset. I didn't fancy the idea of rolling arches/buffing expensive tyres on the body with a lower 'pokier' offset.

Tyres are Michelin CUP2s in 265/35/18 As it turns out, this is the widest CUP2 available in 18inch. Originally, I really wanted 275, but now they're on, I'm glad I went for 265 as the fitment is pretty close.

Along with the wheels and tyres, I've fitted Carbotech XP10's pads front and back, braded lines with performance fluid.

Last year I fitted Penske two way adjustable shocks from RR Racing with their URSS, and since have been desperate to take the car to the next level with proper rubber and pads. I think (hope!) its going to be an incredibly capable package.

    I've attached a few pics.

I speak with Jean-Luc who also tracks his car. Anyone else on the forum track their ISF and could hopefully share their experiences?

The Evora seats are superb. Loved mine. Supportive yet super comfortable. Can you not get them to heat as the Evora seats are heated?

You may well regret a full alcantara wheel. It doesn’t take much for it to lose the nice feeling and turn hard and nasty. Looks nice though. Lovely job.

Hi Stuno, sadly not. There are wires from the underside, but just for the SRS Airbag system.

I've had alcantara on the steering wheel of every car since my old M3 CSL back in 2008 You need to keep them clean using a thinners based cleaner as regular cleaning products have oil in them and thats what makes the fibres stick together and go hard and shiny like you mention - either that or a tatty wheel thats never been cleaned in its life!

  8. Hi Guys,

posted a couple of times over the past while, and a few members have asked for better interior photos of my USB IS-F

Never actually taken any half decent photos of the of the cars interior since fitting the seats and having the steering wheel re-trimmed. Quiet afternoon at work and an ideal chance to give the car a wash an hoover, and take a few pics. Hope you like them!

The Seats are Recaro CS Sportsters from a Lotus Evora and came with manual runners. Yes, I've lost the heated seats and electric adjustment, but small price to pay for the perfect seating position as I've always found the standard seats didn't' quite go low enough for me. I must admit though, the heated seats were missed over winter, but it is nearly summer :)

There is quite a bit of wiring involved to address the PCS and Airbag lights. This was taken care of by a professional Auto Spark. The bases came from the states, using IS350 mounts, although if I'm being 100% honest, the drivers frame isn't perfect and I'm going to have the original adjusted or an entirely new subframe fabricated.

I used Optimus Trimmers up here in Glasgow for the wheel. They are top notch. Even did the wheel in once piece, unlike my GT3 which wheel uses three sections. I wouldn't ever have known, but Del the owner wanted it to be like the factory finish. He's some man!

This is my third IS-F and chose to address all the little things I didn't like about the model with this car. There isn't much, but always room for improvement. I'm not into going overboard - Prefer to get the car like they way I imagined it might have come from the factory. OEM+ I think its called on the 'scene' :)

    Cheers,

    Stevie

I took a little trip to Quicksilver Exhausts on Friday to pick up some systems for myself and others and had a long chat with the owner Paul Goddard, I'm a past owner of a Gt3 a 996 so was chuffed to be shown his own car it's a low mileage minter mind you it's now on its 3rd engine it seems that the chocolate motors of the past haven't quite been eradicated by Porsche.

Major engine problems never effected the previous GT and turbo cars it's a shame hopefully they've solved it now wouldn't want to run one without a warranty 😳

Big Rat, when you say its on its third engine, do you mean this Left Hooker 991 GT3 is on its third?? Yes, I've only ever owned Turbo and GT3 for that very reason. The fact the CUP car uses the same engine in the 996/7 GT3 says it all, unlike the early 991 GT3 which actually ran our old Metzger in the CUP car!! Tells you exactly what Porsche thought of the early 991 GT3 engine doesn't it!

  10. I've used both Porsche Edinburgh & Glasgow to look after my GT3 over the past 8 years and the service has been up and down. Routine service work - fine. Warranty work - not so fine. I fought with Glasgow for almost a year to replace the front shocks due to knocking. They changed everything else on the front of the car, but the noise persisted, in the end, they finally changed the struts, hey presto - cured. Toward to the end of warranty (paid extended warranty c. 1300/yr) I had noises from the rear suspension which they were absolutely useless. At one point I was told, it was an old car and to expect noises!!!

Lexus have over filled my ISF twice now with oil which is just school boy stuff.

Tbh, I've yet to find a Main Dealer whos really worth the money. The annoying thing is, its needed to retain the value and above all, make the car easier to sell on come end of ownership.

A good trusted specialist blows the socks of a MD in both quality of workmanship and cost, but selling the car with 'FMDSH' is always easier than 'Specialist' history. Go figure!!
