I currently have a 2017 nx300h with low miles but im not loving the drive.

    I am considering changing it to a 2015 rx450h ?

would it be worth it ? or am I better keeping the nx?

    Thanks in advance.

I wanted an NX300h but the test drive was so uncomfortable I tried a 2015 RX450h and subsequently bought a 2015 Advance. Great car which I drove for  great 30,000 miles before buying my current gen 4.

Best keep that old machine going cause machines now have the Tubs ultrasonically welded together and therefore no way ( really ) to remove inner drum to change the main bearing. Also the bearings on these newer machines are no where near as big as the 'older' machines bearings so the cynic in me says they are 'designed to fail'

My neighbour used to work for Indesit. Machines are designed to last 2 years apparently. We now buy more expensive machines that will last. Our dishwasher is a Miele, likewise our washing machine. Our last Miele washing machine failed after about 8 years. They reckon they will do 20,but this is based upon x number of washes per week.

I looked into this and our machine had done 40 years worth 😂

Our current Miele washing machine has a 10 years manufacturers warranty and cost about £850.

You have to look out for manufacturers using other brand names on products. We have a Miele cooker hood which had several issues. I then learnt it was made for Miele not by them.

  3. The thing with windscreens is that Lexus don't fit them. When I had the misfortune to get a cracked windscreen in a 175 mile loan car the Lexus Dealer supplied the screen and sent me to a local fitter. I asked him about realigning and calibration of the cameras and he assured me that this is mainly' smoke and mirrors ' and if fitted correctly by a competent fitter there will not be an issue. Lexus supplied a fitting kit which he didn't use (because he was good) and I got a refund on it. The trim strips are eye wateringly expensive...

  4. When I had a BMW Z3 I managed to find a new genuine cover on eBay. It was an outdoor version but I mainly used it in my garage.

PU coated nylon is probably the best material. Important to ensure its well secured so that it doesn't chafe the paintwork.

Try the Classic Car magazines for finding tailor made covers as I doubt Lexus made one.

If you accept the idea of toll roads (why does taxation pay for 99.99% of roads but not others - most of which are tunnels and crossings which by their nature are difficult to avoid) then using technology to avoid the need for barriers is a good idea. It's partly why so many people forget to pay because the journey across is a pretty seamless experience. Once upon a time I used the Tyne Tunnel regularly and that wasn't a pleasant experience during rush hour.

If I had just received the PCN I would have paid the fine - couldn't argue, I had forgotten to pay.

It was the offer to accept late payment and then having a system that couldn't recognise and deal with the fact that I had already paid followed by a robotic response from the staff. This clearly wasn't the first time they'd had the same conversation but even then they can't deal with it outside of going to an 'appeals process'.

I'm pretty sure that if it went to court then a Judge would take the view that I'd acted in good faith and that I'd did what most people would do in the circumstances.

Having said that, I'm most likely going to pay the fine and then hope I win my appeal and get a refund - we shall see.

    What happened?

I know this is very much a first world problem but after a moment of excitement hearing on Saturday my new RX should be available for pickup on the 31st March, today I got the dreaded phone call that the dealership is shutting down (I'm unclear if this is just sales) due to Covid-19 and no new toy for me.

My inner child is so disappointed.

Anyway keep safe out there folks.

I'll be along soon to rejoin the Lexus owning family.

Think positively. You couldn't drive it even if you had it. It will also be registered later 👍

  7. That is basically what happened to my wife

I remember when I was locked out of my Mazda zedos 6,and had to get a friend take me back home to pick up the spare, I unlocked the car to open the boot to put a suit case in the boot but did not actually open any of the doors, which then automatically lock again if not opened,I unfortunately dropped the key in the boot along with the suit case and slammed the boot shut, thereby locking myself out of the car 🙁

I didn't do anything differently than normal.
I have my keys in my rucksack side pocket, I grab the drivers door handle to unlock
Open the rear door, place my rucksack on the rear seat, close rear door, open drivers and get in.

Today, I unlocked using the drivers door handle as usual, opened the rear door, put my rucksack on the rear seat and as soon as I closed the rear door, CLUNK, doors locked.

The keys were not pressing on anything, I could clearly see them in my rucksack side pocket but the doors were locked.
Pressing the button on the door handle just gave a long beeping tone, then nothing.

I ended up getting a friend to drive me to my other halves Aunties to pick up a spare door key, drive me home to collect my spare, then drive me into work with my spare.

I've tried locking the door using the fob from inside before and it doesn't (didn't) work, just the long beep.

What happpened? battery low on the key but even so, why did it lock in the first place and why did it lock with the keys inside?
Weird and frutrating. Glad I had someone to call on.

My wife did the same thing last week with her Fiat 500 while doing the school run 😢
