  1. I was due a 60K service this year and was quoted £600 from the Lexus dealer. Ended up spending £300 at a prestige car specialist in Milton Keynes. Lexus just wouldnt budge on the price - all they could suggest was some kind of monthly subscription to a service plan - guess if a service schedule is backed up by some kind of saving scheme you know it isnt going to be cheap! Doubt I will use Lexus service again TBH, as the Milton Keynes specialist were good to deal with & half the price.
  2. Do any Lexus engineers out there know if it is possible to backup and import user marked points? For example if I trade my car is there a Lexus procedure to move all my marked points automatically from the old Lexus to the new one.
  3. Use this thread instead - http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=46461
  4. Thanks. My warranty is just up and I figured I would check it out. Do you know if a conversion will reduce Car Tax as well as fuel costs? AB
  5. Just wondering if is it possible to convert an RX300 II to run on LPG? Anyone done this? AB
  6. Don't forget these will corode as well. I have had 2 MK2's since 2003 and am just about to request my third set of replacement wheels ... Have seen some chromed MK2 wheels advertised on ebay from US that look pretty sweet - anyone tried chroming in the UK? I figure I'll be hanging on to my 05 and spending a bit of money on it, rather than trading in this year - be damned if I'm throwing more money Gordon Brown's way.
  7. Hi, I've had two RX300 II's and both boot covers have been noisy. I actually think the cover is a bit naff & lets the car down. Still, can't be that bad 'cos I did buy a second one! :-) ab
  8. Thought I'd post a few things I found about while driving my RX to St. Tropez this summer. I rang Lexus HQ and asked about headlamp deflectors - they advised that a Halfords set was just as good as what a dealer would fit. They were easy to put on, and I didn't get flashed once while driving at night. Halfords do an excellent pre-cut bulb replacement set for the new RX. It was less than a tenner and meant I could satisfy the French law that requires you have a set on board. Quite how much use it would be in the case of a failed light I dont know though :-) The SAT nav was great all through France and performed an excellent job of navigating me directly to the Royal Palace in Monaco on a day out - would have preferred a car park, but the tourists seemed to appreciate the RX! BTW. When you cross a country border the Sat Nav displays a picture of the national flag, which I thought was cool. An In-Car DVD was great with a back seat full of kids. Before we left I managed to get a 8.5" multi-region DVD with three set of infra-red headphones for £400, which was money well spent. The Dutch like their caravanning as much as the British. Round trip was 2,000 miles and the car performed faultlessly.
  9. Hi Gazman, I bought it from a Lexus dealer in the US, having emailed them previously to make sure they had one in stock. I guess you could try and see if a UK dealer can source a US part for you, or alternatively get one shipped - it is pretty light. Those customs guys will get you though as will the Post Office with their "handling fee" - how the heck do they get away with that anyway ... You can probably find a third party bra in the UK, but the Lexus one has a nice embossed logo and it is well made I think. The part number is : PT21848040 - MASK, 1/2, RX. List price is $124.30 + tax.
  10. Going to do a south of France run in the RX300 this summer & test out the Sat Nav in Europe. Figured as it was a long way & I have 3 kids, some in-car entertainment might be a good investment. I was looking at a tablet-style DVD NextBase unit that sits between the two headrests with sound via infra-red headphones. I would like to keep the size of the whole thing down to a minimum so a screen/dvd table combo seems like a good idea. The whole package with 3 sets of headphones runs to about £450. I was wondering I anyone had tried NextBase before and/or what the alternatives I should consider are. Thanks in advance, Andrew
  11. Yes I picked up the bra from a Lexus dealer in the States when I was visiting for a conference. I tried to get one through the UK dealer but they didn't know what a bra was - I think the saleswoman thought I was trying it on when I asked if she had a bra! It was an US RX330 part but I figured correctly that it would go on the RX300 ok in the UK & it was pretty easy to fit. My credit card shows a cost of £75 which isn't bad considering the amount of grief I had with stonechips under the grille on my previous RX. Regarding the effort in keeping a dark car clean - the evidence is clear - it takes a whole bunch more time than my old Brechin Slate. Personally I think its worth it as I wanted a bit more of a "harder color" if you know what I mean. One more point that I forgot to mention is that the ride is definately firmer in the new car which is more to my taste. Not sure if this is just a quirk of manufacturing of whether the suspension has been tuned, but I like it.
  12. Apologies for not closing out on this topic but I wanted to get a photo. In the end I went for the stafford blue and have been very impressed with the paint so far. There definately appears to be a thicker coat of laquer than on my previous brechin slate which really picked up a lot of knocks. Anyway here's a photo (I polished it specially), thanks for the advice - will probably post again in a couple of years asking about the best color for my next car - an rx400h!
  13. Hi All, Was driving along in my RX300 SE II the other day and was getting a bit bored, so I thought I'd play around with the Trip Info & found something wierd. Here's what I did : 1. Waited for a long, straight, even road 2. Put Cruise on and set the speed to 40 MPH (pesky cameras) 3. Reset 'Trip' information on my screen (ie. zero'd) 4. Waited for a bit ... Average speed on Trip info displayed 35MPH, although speedo was fixed at 40MPH. 5. [Confused] Waited a bit more ... Same thing! Which is right, my speedo or my Trip average speed. Same applied for 50MPH & 60MPH. I guess there would be some math going on inside the Trip calculations but that is a big difference. Wierd eh? Andrew
  14. Hi all, I am just about to replace my 2 year old RX300 SE II with a 2005 spec. Current color is Brechin Slate + Oakham which I really like, but dont want to get a new car in the same. Was thinking about the Dark Blue + Oakham & I am at the dealers on Friday to sign on the dotted. Any thoughts? Andrew
  15. Yes the paint apparently is water based rather than oil, which seems to make it weaker. My dealer cited 'Environmental friendlyness' ... Looks like a subscription to 'Chips Away' should be included along with the RAC. :winky: Pity really as it is a great car which is difficult to fault.
