Jump starting a hybrid from a non hybrid car is not a good move. Or offering a jump start to a non hybrid car.
Both can cause expensive damage. Hybrid to hybrid is apparently OK.

I get a lot of people say what's the point.
To see how much glare you get from your dashboard, next time its sunny, lay a black T-Shirt on the dashboard and see the difference it makes.
Without, its like driving while looking through a net curtain.
-
I wonder if anyone has bought an anti-glare dashboard cover for their is300h ?
I presently use one I have made up out of an old towel sprayed matt black, just for the drivers side.
I'd like one which goes right across.

Thank you Roy
I must be a retard as I cannot see how to set a list of destinations.
Am I the only one who has this difficulty?Guess I need to sit in the corner of the classroom
You are not the only one. One moment I think I have mastered the Navigation. The next time I go to use it,
nothing does what I want it to. I usually rely on my Garmin sat-nav which is far easier to use and always
up to date.

My father who was then about 90yrs old, was told he had to go for a driving assessment. This was at the driving test centre in Kings Lynn.
It amounted to a driving test, with the examiner testing on various aspects of his driving. With tick boxes in columns A B C D. I went along as well.
Most of the boxes were ticked in the C column and one in the D. He was obviously nervous, and he frightened me a couple of times.
He couldn't understand it when he had a letter advising him to stop driving. Thankfully he did, and got himself an electric buggy.

I took my 81 year old mother for her second Covid jab this morning. It was clearly "Jab the Oldies" day today and had I worked for the DVLA or Police, I would have confiscated the licences of more than one of the drivers trying woefully to navigate the traffic and parking areas at the vaccination centre. My NCB flashed before my eyes on more than one occasion....
It took some effort on my part to get my (now departed) father to stop driving, even to the point of contacting the DVLA. It's a wrench as it takes away independence. It'll come to us all one day. 😒

On the Italian forum for hybrids (hybrid synergy forum) many owners of the new Yaris are complaining that the GPF is often blocked while driving in the city and at low speed, this causes ICE not switching off with increase in fuel consumption. It seems that after many complaints Toyota is investigating the problem.
I think this applies to the older 1.6 GR sport version ?
-
We are keeping our IS300h for the foreseeable future, but are about to change our Ford Bmax for a new Yaris,
as this is the type my wife is learning to drive on. Does anyone here have a Yaris as a second car ?, if so what do you
think of it. Sorry if this is off topic, but from my point of view, our Lexus and the new Yaris are both hybrids, and bought
from the same dealer.

I was watching a video which said you shouldn't jump start a non-hybrid car with a hybrid car.
I can understand the reasoning, as the 12v Battery in a hybrid and the car's electrics aren't designed to take a heavy load.
It is ok i understand ok to jump start another hybrid ? Is this correct ??
-
Something else to be aware of.
I had my IS300h in for a service yesterday at my local dealer. There were thankfully no problems with it, but there is one thing they couldn't do, and which I need to go back for.
That was the hybrid health check.
I imagine what must happen when the Battery has gone flat or been disconnected, is that the stored data on how the hybrid Battery has been performing is lost and needs to be built up again. So I need to go back when I've done 500miles, which in my case will be about six months 😄😄
-
I mentioned this elsewhere, but since changing the 12v Battery it's been fine and holding it's charge.
If not using the car I still put the charger on it every couple of weeks. It hasn't dropped below 12v yet.
-
I have posted this before but it's worth repeating.
When changing the 12v Battery, you need to disconnect the rubber vent pipe from the top left hand side of the Battery
It's just a push fit. Also remove the little plastic elbow from the old Battery, and use on the replacement.
It's easy to miss this if you don't have enough light.

I tried them, they are out of stock, and don't know when they will be getting more
I've ordered one from here.. £149.99 including delivery
The battery was delivered today, maybe not the cheapest option but at least I now have it.
It's labelled as Toyota..Made in Korea........... Close enough for me and the correct dimensions
-
If it's anything like the IS300h when the 12v Battery goes flat or is disconnected, you need to use the blade in the key fob.
There is a keyway just above the rear number plate to insert the blade.

They also say the following
PLEASE LEAVE THE CAR RUNNING FOR AT LEAST 1 HOUR AFTER INSTALLING THE NEW Battery SO THAT IT CAN REACH TO ITS FULL POTENTIAL. Battery NORMALLY FAILS DUE TO REDUCED VEHICLE USAGE OR FREQUENT SHORT JOURNEYS. Battery IS AN ELECTROMECHANICAL DEVICE WHICH NATURALLY LOSES CHARGE OVER TIME AND LOSES CHARGE EVEN FASTER IN HIGH SPRING AND SUMMER. EVEN WHEN VEHICLE IS OFF & LOCKED, ALARMS AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WILL DRAIN THE Battery BECAUSE Battery IS STILL CONNECTED TO FUNCTION ALARM & OTHER VEHICLE INTERNAL COMPONENTS.
ALL HYBRID CARS REQUIRED MORE THAN 40MINS DRIVE OR AT LEAST 1HOUR IN “READY” MODE. IF NOT USING CAR REGULARLY LEAVE THE CAR RUNNING FOR AT LEAST 1HOUR TWICE A WEEK. IF Battery LEVEL IS DROPPED BELOW 80% AND NOT QUICKLY RECOVERED BY RECHARGING THEN IT WILL CAUSE PERMANENT DAMAGE TO THE Battery. DAMAGE OCCURS BELOW 10.5VOLTS. BATTERIES ARE NOT DESIGNED TO GO BELOW 12VOLTS BY THEMSELVES AND CAN ONLY GO DOWN BECAUSE OF OVER DISCHARGE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ## ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Leaving the car running for an hour twice a week seems OTT. Connecting to a charger for half a day every week should suffice (?) Chargers won't (or shouldn't) let you over charge.
-
Just following on.... The time has come to finally change the Battery so I am looking at options.
The one listed above by "Thackeray" looks reasonable. Just waiting for them to reply.
£208!!! wow.
I did a how to on changing the plugs a while back, its not difficult and takes about 30 mins.
Lexus charge a small fortune for the plugs, I believe they're about £35 per plug incl vat, if you can find a denso dealer they can supply you with the same plug that's not Lexus branded for a fraction of the cost, IIRC a set of 4 denso plugs are about £60
The plugs should last 60,000 miles, what mileage has yours got on it?
Yes having seen a video, I can see that it's not a difficult job. Although at the time I didn't know if it was a plug or coil
causing the misfire. The car has only done about 28,800 miles, but I wonder if recent lack of use might be a
contributing factor ? I was charged £49.07 + vat for the four plugs. Don't Toyota own 25% of Denso ?
I thought plugs were changed at 60,000 miles which is what the next service will be. If they are going to change them I shall
ask for the old ones back. 😄
After the first three years the Lexus breakdown expires and then is either renewed as a standalone or is part of the Extended Warranty (which makes the Extended Warranty better value as its full AA Euro cover and includes the addition of a partner too for any car either person is driving). I wasn't aware it could be included in a service plan though
I'm pretty sure it is, but I stand to be corrected.
Why did GF turn up if you called the AA?
I don't think he was Actually Green Flag, but he thought that's who I belonged to, as that's where the majority of
his work comes from
I can only assume that if the AA are overloaded with work, they pass the job down the line.
Even this chap covered a huge area in his breakdown truck. Anywhere in Essex, and up as far as Bury St Edmunds.
I am close to Lexus Southend at Rayleigh Weir.
It wasn't until after I called the AA, that I remembered that Lexus Breakdown is included with my Service contract.
Although being a Saturday there's every chance the job would be subbed out to a local garage.
I remember buying 8 genuine Lexus ones on eBay (Denso), sold by a Lexus dealership for a £1 each delivered. Bargain! No idea why they sold them that cheap.
It pains me to see such a hefty tag for your 4.
How much of that bill was labour?
All fine since? Let's hope it stays that way and isn't something else.
£125 Labour. I hope it's fine now too.
I had a problem a couple of weeks ago. First of all the car needed jump starting (again) luckily I keep a charged up Battery in the garage.
So I said to my wife lets go for a ride to get the Battery charged up. We got a couple of miles down the road and it was really running rough,
so much so that I stopped in a layby and called the AA. Eventually a chap who does Green Flag breakdowns turned up and diagnosed it as
a misfire on No.3 Cylinder. I limped home with him following me. I took it over to the dealer and they said it was a spark plug. They changed
all 4 at a cost of £208. I knew it wouldn't be cheap, but cheaper than changing the coils. Not that straight forward a job, but having seen a video
on You Tube, I would probably do it myself if it happened again.. What really annoyed me was the fact that if it had been an actual AA patrol
vehicle which had come out, he probably would have changed the plug there and then. We live and learn !!
-
Thank you Colin for that reply.
Another mistake I made was (thinking wrongly it was a Lithium battery), was charging it in Lithium mode rather than Lead-Acid.
Which LED me to think it was fully charged, when it probably wasn't.
I have a problem which manifested itself yesterday. Going out for the first time in a while, and when I put my foot down,
it went into "chug" mode. Got home and when checked it showed a misfire on Cylinder 3. Hopefully a duff plug, but probably
a coil. The car has only done 28,500 miles, but I suppose they can fail at any time ? I've only had it happen before on a Diesel
VW Caddy van.
Are the cylinders numbered from the front or back ? (To save me looking through the manual)
I get this when pulling out of my driveway on full lock.
It's not something I've ever worried about.
