    "Everything should work as is, except for the issue with the WiFi, which tends to stop working based on my experience.     On second attempt (new stick), it got stuck for 2 hours on "Installing DCU MAIN"  (DCU (REPRO) Vup Completed):

    After 2 hours of wait, it power cycled itself.

    I am now on intermediary software versions:

    I am totally lost between what I've read on the forums:

    1. can the dealership successfully update it from here?

    2. is the system perfectly functional in its current state?

    3. the system is to be thrown away and replaced after the red error, based on what I've understood from @AtomAnt?

    Hi, unfortunately, I encountered a similar situation while attempting a DIY update. If your UX is serviced by Lexus or is still under the normal warranty, the dealer may show some empathy and fix this for you. To my knowledge, the only solution is to replace the DCU. I am currently still driving my NX, and since it was last fixed by the dealer (as mentioned in my previous post), everything seems to be fine. My advice to anyone facing a similar issue is to utilize the dealer services, which cost around 80-90 + VAT. If something happens, it becomes their problem!

    Thats correct, the existing unit’s software roadmap stops at wired connection. However,  you can use  CPLAY2air wireless adapter (only AC compatible though), which I use everyday! Its plug and play!

    Yep, I got it as well. This whole AA/AC upgrade has been controversial! On many fronts, Lexus had been playing catchup, in my view. 

  5. This is a topic I was searching for for a while, but eventually, I managed to find something that works through some research! Last month I was very close to selling my NX300h since PCP was coming to an end, and I was torn between inflated residual value (make some profit) vs a new car! In the end, I decided to keep the car for good unless Lexus releases full electric (not UX or upcoming plugin hybrid NX). The car has 14k on the clock, and I am the 1st owner! 
    One thing that always bugged me was the screen being super delicate - it has a special coating, and if you accidentally end up cleaning  it with any random cloth, you can end up like the one below - this is not my image, but it happened to my IS300h, which was replaced under warranty!

    My paranoia always kicks in whenever I take the car for a wash. I somehow do not trust the car wash guys and always had this fear that they would end up scuffing my head unit display! So the solution is to use a screen protector, which took me a while to source! It was not easy since there are so many variations available in the market, especially sourcing the one with the right size is a nightmare. In the end, I found one through lfotpp.com (I have no affiliation with them, just a dude assisting the community) at a very reasonable price with no shipping cost to the UK!
    You may not be paranoid like me, but if you are and have been looking for a screen protector for your 10.3-inch display, this step by step may help!

    Screen protector applied. Since it is hardened glass bubbles do not form if you let it stick from left to right or the other way around.

  6. Hello @StGeorge your vehicle's unit is exactly the same is mine. i.e. CY17. It supports AA/AC. Refer to page 4 and page 6 of this post, where i posted images of my unit's software version (earlier releases). In a nut shell you would need series of updates before the final AA/AC update is applied. From bitter experience, i'd recommend paying the dealer to update unit so you are covered in case something gets kaput! Software update process was never consistent! 

    In summary your version numbers are earlier releases of the software.

    Sorry to hear you were treated this way - this is definitely not the Lexus way! Update in 99% of cases require the software to be brought up to a particular version then the car-play update is applied. So the dealers are familiar with the time and effort it can take to get to desired outcome. £60 to £160 jump just does not make sense! 

    Re: wireless Carplay - coincidently, I asked my local Lexus centre few days ago and I was told that other than bug fix releases no major enhancements will be offered! To my knowledge wireless CarPlay was/is never offered with retro upgrade, even in US; thats where it all started!

Plus, I was under no circumstances going to ask them to charge me! I'll class it as an excellent customer service and leave it there 🙂

    PS: No explanation on failed. Could be my unit had an underlying fault. If you go back few pages, I mentioned the green screen issue which was rectified by a software update, that is my theory. Who knows! 

    like @ColinBarber said - but if it goes wrong for him (Technician) , he has the backing of Toyota behind him to rectify the issue. 

  10. The calm before the storm - I had not much to lose since my unit was in a state of limbo! These gadgets, software/hardware, are pacifiers in my view, and the failed update followed unexplainable anxiety!

    I got the car back today. I am thankful to Lexus; they delivered it once again. In the end, it was a replacement DCU. 

    For reference, The system is classed kaput once you get the "DCU (REPRO)Vup Complete" / error001 on 1st attempt, even if it is partially working. Plus, I feel, the "try different USB Disk (brand)" mantra is a myth. A USB Disk 2.0 or 3.0 may have a different transfer speeds, but it cannot be responsible for failure.

    The software used by dealers is the same as on Lexus-tech ( I know we had a go at that). The three USB disks, i.e. yellow, blue and white, are Samsung OEMs that dealers use (Part Number: PW675-00RL1).

    Irrespective how competent you are (tech-savvy), use the dealer services; I've learnt the hard way. 

    Sigh! My car has apple CarPlay- what an experience! All the best.

    I've looked at the version a number of times. It always says 943. Difficult to say if the unit is seeing the update files because when I insert the USB it thinks for a few seconds and then proclaims it can't authenticate. 🤔

     

    Do you think it's because I didn't delete those other 2 files in the FMU folder? Update: No, it's not that - just retried without the 2 extra txt files.
    Have also tried with and without an internet connection. Still no authentication. Don't get it

    Old thread - but for reference same thing happened to me. Turned out to be an issue with file transfer- MD5 hash did not match when I checked the files on source i.e. downloaded vs 'on' the USB stick. Copied again on the same USB stick and all worked.

    Indeed, TSB BE-00436L-TME is designed for MM17 units that eventually become/behave as MM19 systems, but for my 2018 NX300h, it did not work. I followed the instructions to the dot as per the TSB notes. Used my spare Windows 10 laptop with correctly formatted FAT32 labelled disks and at USB disk3, circa 85 minutes into the overall process, the system failed with Error code:001 - which means update failed car parameter. 
    Removing the USB disk and starting the car brought everything back to the original state but I am not attempting it again till for some time or revert to my local dealer! 
    There is no way to check that the process will work (even though you verify Audio and Navigation Versions); you dive into it and hope you (the head unit) can swim ( the best analogy I can come up with). 
    Of course, I did a lot of research afterwards to see if there is a fix and both Lexus / Toyota units suffer from this issue; success/failure is very intermittent. Some Spanish forums are suggesting deleting and manipulating some files names, but I feel, that is playing with fire! 
    My suggestion is to wait if you can. I know it is very tempting, but it is pure luck, and it shouldn't be like this.
    Oh, I had to update my maps to 2020 v1 else the 1st USB disk wouldn't even recognise the system. Disk 1 and Disk 2 was success Disk 3 (fail).
    At the end of disk 2 reboot, my software versions were updated.

    Well, the time has come, I am booked in tomorrow with my local Lexus centre - let's see what happens next!
    On a positive note, I remain on the leaderboard for the ones who were the first to declare a failed upgrade for the "most-anticipated" AA/AC retro Lexus software - despite, following all instructions to the dot! AND perhaps I am the first one to visit the dealer with a failed scenario - anyone? 
    Since the first release of BE-00436L-TME, there have been a few revisions for the TSB, mainly documentation updates (i.e. cautions, warnings, etc.) but the binaries remain the same. 
    There is another recent release for October 26 - Version 6 ?  (not checked whats inside).
    I doubt that the dealer will have some special software (binaries), but I can only hope for the best!
    I'll be back with more!

  13. Indeed good response and I am not denying that the caution is not there. It is there at the landing page, right when you sign in to the portal!

    If I keep Colin's statement at a glance then I think there is a contradiction on Lexus' Part. A Caution/disclaimer followed by free stuff such as Map updates (for eligible cars)? What if a map update leads to bricking the system. Let's take this dodgy TSB out of the equation - who is responsible then? 

    Or perhaps the question is who is the target audience of lexus-tech.eu ? Customer or Technicians?

    BTW, I have already said that those who have 'not' updated their cars yet must not proceed attempt - sometimes you learn the hard way!

    Lexus prides themselves for craftsmanship and service. I am sure they will not let their customer astray! I hope.

    Sounds like some back-peddling is going on after finding their (Lexus) testing wasn't thorough enough.

    I've said it before and I'll say it again - Lexus make damn fine cars and the service from the dealers is amazing.  My biggest complaint with them has always been the poor implementation of the tech and poor use/communication using the internet.  They just don't seem to be able to get certain things right.

    If Lexus.eu isn't 'official' then why does it exist and why has it fixed so many bugs in my system to date!

    I hear you - I relayed exact words that were shared. Maybe the term "unofficial" was a nervous laugh/response from the person on the other side (phone). 

    BTW, I had the same reaction. 

    You can see from the file comparison I did, and you quoted this in your response, i.e. the 'Readme file' has some stern language. It means they probably now know there is/could be an issue. So why put the customer on the chopping board and remove the TSB and release when thoroughly tested.

    If it is a pilot, then it should not have gone public!

    Love the conversation! I am equally baffled; I feel it should NOT have been released. 
    Agree with every statement re: your responses above. I have seen it before; I am in Tech Industry (Software), and these things 'can' happen when a product version with bug(s) is released as GA code. Someone at Lexus Tech will be subjected to answers after publishing this TSB ( I hope so)!  

    This is my 5th Lexus, own a CT & NX - I have no doubts in their R&D or processes, but this software update has been an utter joke. I am pretty sure someone from Lexus will be watching this thread, and if they are, they should remove the TSB to avoid further damage. 
    At the end of the day, dealers are at the front line - they will be subjected to customer heat for failed systems. And each dealer will react and respond differently. Overall, the situation is disgusting. 

  17. Hello everyone. Slight update for the victims of TSB BE-00226L-TME (Red screen of death @ USB Disk 3). There is good and bad news and some advice.
    In the interest of data protection, I'll not be able to share any names, but I spoke a Lexus dealership at length. I diverted their direction to this thread, page 6 mainly to have a view. I then revealed my self, who I am on this thread in utter honesty. The person took notes of the sequence of events and promised to come back to me. 
    The response was remarkable in two ways. One, I was told that this TSB is not official and shall not be issued to the dealers. And the dealers will be able to offer the upgrade mid-october, i.e. they are still waiting but it is close!  
    He remarked that Lexus-tech is aware that a vast number of customers downloaded the software leading to mixed upgrade results. Where there is a total failure (bricked unit, i.e. system going in a perpetual loop), it is, unfortunately, a DCU replacement of circa £1500, i.e. not covered by the warranty.  
    Now, where the MEU has been upgraded, and DCU failed at disk 3, i.e. you multimedia is working as expected but not connecting to Lexus connected services; there is a slight hope via the dealer network when the "final" software is released, it may fix the issue. (I used the term 'final' since I don't know what else to say)! 
    I am baffled with this response, i.e. how can Lexus release a software update without any exhaustive testing. No one knows this answer neither was the person on the phone able address. 
    I hung up the phone and started digging some threads where customers affected by the Red Screen of Death are cursing Toyota. One of them said that if you still have access to zip files, i.e. the 3 USBs, then Toyota is changing the software, i.e. updated content at the back of same URL. 
    So to address my curiosity, I decided to download the files again.  I started with Disk 3, and to my surprise, there is a minor change on the content (addition of 2 files). In a nutshell, Lexus has now added a warning denying any liability in case things go haywire! 

    So my advice is
    If your system is still working after a failed attempt - Do not tinker, wait for the dealer to look at your system. 
    If your system is bricked, I am sorry, its too late, but be friendly and honest with your dealer, maybe they can still help! 
    If you are looking to upgrade, Stop (read these posts). This is a statistics defying software update I've ever seen!

    In fact, I feel that this software update has become a conspiracy.

    @ColinBarber as for those instructions I wouldn't even try them and I am a software engineer. Only because without any debugging tools you don't know why it's throwing those errors and the last thing you want to do is mess around with the install and potentially brick your system. Might as well wait for maybe a few months, and let lexus get out a patch. 

    Not sure what happened, but it did not work, of course, we are working on a blind system there isn't any verbose logging for the operator. However, looking at TSB BE-00226L-TME, i.e. Lexus Premium Navigation (MM17/MM19) - Troubleshooting Guide DCU + MEU; logs can be obtained from the service menu for MEU and DCU. The dealer can share these logs with TME support. 
    This is covered under the heading: "Diagnoses recorder: Get multimedia diagnostic data (MMDiagData) Downloading the diagnosis recorder to USB" again this is not my job but encouraging that such an option exists. 

    I too am in the tech arena, and despite the fact, I can code, I'd not dare to attempt this workaround. Yes, I had seen it before when I was researching post-failure.
