Since it's not bricked it should never come to that. Plus you didn't use unofficial software, so not sure why you think you would have voided your warranty.

Yep - the system is not dead yet and is operational, still.

@AtomAnt @cmsmits it's strange that it didn't work for you guys, there must be something different about your systems.

I'm sure you guys will just wait for lexus to sort it out.

@ColinBarber as for those instructions I wouldn't even try them and I am a software engineer. Only because without any debugging tools you don't know why it's throwing those errors and the last thing you want to do is mess around with the install and potentially brick your system. Might as well wait for maybe a few months, and let lexus get out a patch.

Not sure what happened, but it did not work, of course, we are working on a blind system, there isn't any verbose logging for the operator. However, looking at TSB BE-00226L-TME, i.e. Lexus Premium Navigation (MM17/MM19) - Troubleshooting Guide DCU + MEU; logs can be obtained from the service menu for MEU and DCU. The dealer can share these logs with TME support.
This is covered under the heading: "Diagnoses recorder: Get multimedia diagnostic data (MMDiagData) Downloading the diagnosis recorder to USB" again this is not my job but encouraging that such an option exist.

I too am in the tech arena, and despite the fact, I can code, I'd not dare to attempt this workaround. Yes, I had seen it before when I was researching post-failure.

With regards to Lexus Online not working, have you checked that your system is connected to the internet (either by your phone's hotspot or Bluetooth)? The reason I ask is that an early stage of the upgrade wipes all previous system settings, including WiFi. I had this issue following my upgrade and needed to re-establish the WiFi connection to fix it.

This is not a Wifi / Bluetooth connection issue, this applies to my failed upgrade situation as well. I have tried all combinations. This shall only be fixed after a successful upgrade as  far as I can understand.
And it is happening to all the folks who were presented with “red screen of death” ( yeah, I made it up). Most toyota forums are full of this.
Clearly, Lexus would know a way out of this. The upgrade is in its early days. I am sure a fix will be available once it is done at scale. Or a  supplement TSB; I feel Lexus missed the scale/unit testing on this upgrade (EU version).
It is disappointing but I am not worried at this moment in time.
lets a wait a little bit more 😉

Wow, that’s annoying. Especially if what you’re saying is that it is a bit of a lottery.
My update was flawless. The 3rd stick part took ages (about 40 minutes) with repeated reboots but went exactly as detailed. Due to the way USB 3 installs the update (It clearly puts the unit into some kind of developer/diagnostic mode) I thought that would be the most likely point of failure.
Lexus obviously expect it to fail occasionally or they wouldn’t detail the various error codes in the TSB.

Only thing I can think of is an error when reading to USB. Highly unlikely though.

No idea what the next step for your system is - based on your current model numbers, the MEU has been updated to MM19 but the DCU is still on MM17.   Technically using USB 3 should start that part of the upgrade again. I’d guess that you wouldn’t want to at the moment but if you did I’d use a different stick with the files freshly copied onto it.

Thanks @pobrown - Earlier today, I tried the USB3 retry method. The process does kick off but after 1st reboot whilst installing DCU Main - it hangs at "DCU (REPRO) Vup Completed" for ever! talking about 70ish minutes.  I used a different (new USB disk)  - trip to local Argos!

  5. Hello Everyone, I begin my statement by saying "Do not try this at home." I feel there is a bug in the process/code (i.e. software), and not everyone is experiencing the same outcome. In my case, it is a "fail". Well done to all who managed to upgrade their NX, ES.
Indeed, TSB BE-00436L-TME is designed for MM17 units that eventually become/behave as MM19 systems, but for my 2018 NX300h, it did not work. I followed the instructions to the dot as per the TSB notes. Used my spare Windows 10 laptop with correctly formatted FAT32 labelled disks and at USB disk3, circa 85 minutes into the overall process, the system failed with Error code:001 - which means update failed car parameter.
Removing the USB disk and starting the car brought everything back to the original state but I am not attempting it again till for some time or revert to my local dealer!
There is no way to check that the process will work (even though you verify Audio and Navigation Versions); you dive into it and hope you (the head unit) can swim ( the best analogy I can come up with).
Of course, I did a lot of research afterwards to see if there is a fix and both Lexus / Toyota units suffer from this issue; success/failure is very intermittent. Some Spanish forums are suggesting deleting and manipulating some files names, but I feel, that is playing with fire!
My suggestion is to wait if you can. I know it is very tempting, but it is pure luck, and it shouldn't be like this.
Oh, I had to update my maps to 2020 v1 else the 1st USB disk wouldn't even recognise the system. Disk 1 and Disk 2 was success Disk 3 (fail).
At the end of disk 2 reboot, my software versions were updated.
Some photos and an animated GIF showing Error code:001

I updated my nx300h last night and as @Fafner described its was pretty simple.

@AtomAnt and to everyone else that is worried about bricking their system. The only way it will happen is if you decide to turn the car off or remove the USB drives while it's in the middle of an update. I'm sure most people are more than competent to follow simple ikea sytle instructions.

Then it has to done before the weekend 🙂 Thanks. BTW risk assessment is a must have.

Hey all! I just signed up today but have been following this thread for some days now.

Just to let you know that this morning I took the plunge and updated my UX250h with the stuff being talked about here. I searched using my VIN to be sure I was eligible for it.

All went buttery smooth, there was just a moment where it did seem to stall for a couple of minutes, that was at 50% of the last sub-phase (USB3, "Pre Install" phase), but then it completed succesfully and after a last autostart and some seconds I reached the final confirmation page.

Used an 8GB stick as USB1, a 256GB Kingston SD card as USB2 and a 128GB SD card as USB3, both cards used with a Lexar card reader. Everything formatted with SD Card Formatter on Windows 10.

Basically: USB1, procedure starts by itself after some seconds --> Reboot when asked WITHOUT removing the stick --> Remove USB1 when told so and insert USB2 --> Manually start the update and allow it to proceed --> Turn engine off and back on when told so --> Remove USB2 and insert USB1 again, wait several seconds (30-40) until it starts by itself --> Remove USB1 when told so, turn engine off and back on --> Insert USB3 --> Manually start the update --> This one involves several autostarts and phases, just wait --> Remove USB3 when told so --> Turn engine off and back on --> Insert USB2 --> Manually start the update --> This will update audio to the latest 1075 release --> Turn engine off, wait 1 minute, turn it on and wait 2 minutes --> Done!

I had to reconfigure settings (language, time, ...) and to recouple my phone, but link to MyLexus was kept, it wasn't necessary to reconfigure the account.

As soon as the unit succeeds in connecting to internet, you'll get a message about you having succesfully migrated to MM19.

Only thing left if you want is to update Navigation software from the installed 1120 release to the latest 1140. Has to be downloaded separately as it's not included in the packages.

Outstanding - bold and excellent outcome!
When you say connect to the internet; you mean the car's wifi? I prepared my USB sticks last night and will be trying this weekend. I also confirmed with three dealers - they still don't know about this TSB. Plus, this TSB does not show up under local TSB section (the UK in this case). Irrespective of that I'll try! If things don't go to plan, then the replacement Panasonic unit from dealers is Approx £3,500 😉 does not include reprogramming or fitting.  So I better not brick my MM17 unit!

Once logged into the portal, click on repair and select Repair manual from the list  > enter VIN. it will take you to subscription page > pay for download window.

Then go back to TSB, enter your VIN again and then you will have access to TSB material.

    Good Luck 🙂

FYI, for me https://www.lexus-tech.eu/OnlineSubscriptions.aspx was ending up with server error hence I used above to navigate through.

How the hell do you actually download the files? I registered and logged in to lexus-tech.eu went to basket / add to basket / search - entered BE-00436L-TME for Lexus ES300h  model 2018 -   Clicked search and found the TSB BE-00436L-TME. There is a blue eye logo to the right clicked it and.. nothing. Tried Chrome, Firefox, made sure pop up blockers disabled, deleted cookies.. am I missing something stupid?

Once logged into the portal, click on repair and select Repair manual from the list  > enter VIN. it will take you to subscription page > pay for download window.

Then go back to TSB, enter your VIN again and then you will have access to TSB material.

More or less. You may download the TSB and files from https://www.lexus-tech.eu/. I wont post it here due to possible copyright..

@Mikael Blom thank for sharing. I just checked that my NX300h/MM17 is now also compatible and feels like everything should work. Normally, I am not worried about these things, but at the beginning of TSB it warns you about upgraded vehicle through the warranty channel  recommendation clause and then at the end of TSB there are possible failure codes which means the head unit can be bricked, as such no warranty will be provided. I have the files - it is pretty straight forward but will be thinking tonight to save dealer £145 vs almost free (DIY) upgrade! but the answer is; it is there - Yaaaaaay! good news on that part.

  11. Indeed disappointing -  there is nothing on Local (Technical Service Bulletin) TSB or Global TSB. I do check occasionally!

Latest local TSB only has guidelines for extended warranties due to covid19 or how to handle vehicles

    image.thumb.png.2d1cabbb26fb9be226814eab246ec700.png

Global TSB only lists Navigation update (which is not AA /AC)!

    image.thumb.png.119a880e377e0a521be7245cf4fc8119.png

However, I do feel that Lexus Spain at-least articulates messages clearly, and that has been my (good marketing practice) benchmark. The date does coincide with my local dealer (Leeds) and what others have said in this thread i.e October 2020.

    Time will tell! #StaySafe

  12. Hello Everyone,

I hope you are well and safe. This thread went a bit quiet - we all know why! As things are coming back to some normality, I rang my local dealer to enquire if the AA AC upgrade is out. The answer was yes, followed by, but!  Yes they had received the upgrade, i.e. Lexus provided USB (software), but none of the cars in their garage (compatible) MY 17/18 would accept it nor recognise the update!  The new advised date is October 2020.
I got my NX serviced two days before lockdown and have only driven—60ish miles to date. I am not in a rush anymore but still at the back of my mind the AA AC continues to loom :)
    Stay Safe!

  13. Hello,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. It seems like that Lexus Spain has deferred the date to June this year for cars with navigation. Originally, it was April 2020 see my post (page 3). Pasting from their website...
A bit disappointing, seems like by the time they offer the upgrade it will be time to change the car.

it feels like that the light at the end of the tunnel is a train and not hope. Where does Lexus UK stand I have no idea now ☹️

    • STARTING DATES OF THE INSTALLATION CAMPAIGN

The installation campaign in its Lexus Authorized Center of the new software on compatible vehicles has begun in December 2019 for vehicles WITHOUT Navigator, and in June 2020 for vehicles WITH Navigator.

If your vehicle is compatible, we will perform the update for free on your next maintenance at your nearest Lexus Authorized Center.

hi would this work on a 2011 ct200h as well please.

Yes, you would need to remove the side Right Hand Side (RHS) blanking cover swapped and buy the one with stalk hole from Lexus. off course you need the cruise control stalk as well 🙂 Else, you'd have big hole on the RHS of the steering wheel with stalk hanging out.

  15. Knowledge sharing post. In the past, I have done a few updates myself by visiting https://www.lexus-tech.eu ( registration is free, but for viewing ( Technical Service Bulletin) TSBs a subscription is required - I am not covering details).

In the past, I have updated my wife's CT, and Last IS for map updates bug fixes etc. It's all software and hardware, and things can go wrong if not careful (caution!).

However, I think playing with TSB is a grey area if the car is in warranty. Out of warranty, I would drop the idea, to begin with!! I justify my statement based on this screenshot's wording.

    image.thumb.png.8ac4c9d705c63a5c10d12a3405e8774c.png

I updated my NX's MEU (Multimedia Extension Unit) and DCU (Display Control Unit) to BE-00143L-TME yesterday since I noticed a lot of bugs over time, such as: satnav would occasionally show  that I am driving in the fields, audio hangups, screen freezes etc etc, lot of other minor things to the point when I started my car the other day, and the display booted to green color (all hulk green) power cycle fixed it but it happend on two random occasions - I know it is cold these days 🙂  but this was a software glitch all fixed after the update, could have taken it to the dealer but I love tech.  After the update the map rendering is slicker, phonebook names show up as opposed a phone number only (was intermittent problem) etc etc.

The crazy green screen (its not photoshop - did anyone get it ?  it a screenshot from video I made to show it to dealer if needed)

    image.thumb.png.e9f0cb8a8e1d5806ab2d1607a2abb47a.png

Of course, this post is about AC and AA, so let me get back to the point since everyone is desperately waiting for AA and AC integration. The good news is it is coming. Lexus Leeds did confirm to me as well last week, April is the buzz word, no guidance on pricing/free etc. but it is a yes.

Back to TSB @pobrown mentioned BE-00197L-TME ( thanks for sharing). The update files are there to download, 🙂 but it is not for our Nav it is for MM19 (Pioneer) systems. Our, or at least my Lexus Premium Navigation is L2 DCU, a Panasonic unit.

    image.thumb.png.d82dd176846aa047350ec8e07129ec85.png

The process of upgrading is simple, and it states not to proceed with Lexus enform suite as part of the update (so it is optional - we don't have it in UK anyway - US only). Also, notice that TSB states All Markets. There is also a mention of warranty clause i.e.

Once the upgrade has been performed, register the upgraded vehicle through the warranty channel. Please refer to the last page of the TSB "Registration of the retrofit through the warranty channel". Once the upgrade has been performed, the reverse operation is not possible.

It also states - No parts replacement is necessary, i.e. only the software component (update) is required.

Various Lexus TSBs for NX clearly states two types of or perhaps three types of units, i.e. L1.5 or L2 CY17 DCU (Panasonic units) and L1 CY17 DCU (Pioneer units).

    L2 unit codes are - 17LDL2EU-DB0X

    L1 unit codes are 19LDL1EU-EBPA and 17LDL1EU-EB02

Indeed L1 units have no satnav ( screen from TSB is the proof) I am however, baffled that in this day and age a car can exist without a satnav - lol especially a Lexus.

In other words people who have SatNav (L2) must wait haha - funny!

    image.thumb.png.01f83e734235b76a0e849f4e7427b196.png

Indeed, knowledge is power. Let's wait for L2 Unit software to come out - thought I'd share without numbing your mind.

Please note my area of interest is NX only.

I also noticed that on my Lexus_UK account now has map update available. I  updated mine via lexus-tech a while back which is 2019 v1 - time for another update 🙂

    image.thumb.png.f23bd12453fea5690dfe8f32e4b2beb9.png

  16. Well - I suffer from Gadget Paranoia -  announcement is on the Lexus Poland as well.

    Google Translated, relevant information (copy/paste),..

Owners of cars with the '17 multimedia system (for example, the NX model after facelift) will be able to update apple CarPlay and Android Auto ™ software. The update will be available in Q2 2020. Details from authorized Lexus dealers.

I'll try and ring Lexus Leeds tomorrow and Lexus UK customer services.

No not at all.  Edinburgh.  Don't have an exact date but confident its April, just not sure what week, I'm diarised to get a booking once the software delivery is firmed up.  Tech's have had their training on the install, my delivery dealer, Leeds, said the same thing i.e. tech's have had the training course just waiting on the installer pack.  All seems above board 🙂

    Thank you, appreciate David.

  18. Yes, it is a bit strange - I did troll few random NX Specifications from 2016-2018 and all have navigation. In fact the wording from US website states similar as TSB (above).

2018 LC, LS, NX, RC, and RC F and the 2019 NX, RC F, and ES (without factory navigation) produced before October 2018 require an available multimedia enhancement for CarPlay compatibility. For further information regarding the apple CarPlay | Lexus+Alexa Multimedia Update,

    Source - https://lexus2.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/10174/~/which-lexus-vehicles-are-compatible-with-apple-carplay®%3F

It is a wait and see game!

However, when I spoke to Lexus customer services few months ago (same support team as Toyota) - the guy mentioned that Toyota decided to remove the satnav capability from Toyota Aygo to offer AC/AA since there was no headroom (firmware size) in the system to accomodate addition features. So Aygos only have AA/AC - thats how I understood it!

I am a software engineer and at times fail to believe how rigid the car industry is when it comes to adaptation and innovation. Most of the time it is internal organisational politics/legal as opposed to the tech.

  19. 8 hours ago, pobrown said:

I notice that there are now instructions/details on the Lexus-tech website for adding CarPlay to 17CY non-navigation systems.  This appears to match the details from the Spanish site mentioned above.

Although the instructions look pretty easy to follow, it looks like it is designed for dealers to install as it mentions registering the upgrade on the warranty.

Hi, you mean BE-00197L-TME - Lexus (without navi) UX, NX, ES Retrofit MM19 (Pioneer) ?

Nailbitiing stuff - hopefully Lexus UK follow suit. Apologies if this information is available elsewhere, is there a way to deduce the build date easily (e.g. from the VIN)? Mine came off the boat in December 2018 so am wondering if it was built before October.

Well, all UK units are Panasonic (four I have seen) 2018 plates and have following software version which fall into MY17 builds.

Go to setting > software update and you can check.

    DCU: 17LDL2EU-DB01
    MEU: 17LML2EU-FB00

The US upgrade files have NA ours have EU at the end file - NA for North America (below) - The files have leaked so they are readily available online (risky) but people have gone the DIY route.

These files don't work but i'll refrain from even trying them on your unit! to avoid disappointment.  US systems are Panasonic and Pioneer, they don't have DAB etc but have XM Radio etc etc, they also have Enform™ App Suite and these units have always on data connection! as far I know.
