  1. Hi,

I have an IS200 SE (early 2001) and want a way of getting the sound from my laptop (with Audigy 2 USB Soundcard) to play through the speakers.

I know the IS doesn't have aux-in, so:

    I have tried:

    1) FM Transmitter - crap

    2) FM Modulator - still naff

    3) Tape Adapter (PodGear) - ok but I only seem to get sound from one side and I don't like it wirring around when no sound is being played on the laptop - gets annoying.

So I have read that a few members have added an amp to the IS.

Is it possible to get an amp with aux-in/some way of getting quality sound from my USB soundcard into the lexus sound system?

Was thinking I could pick a cheap one up from eBay with aux-in if possible.

I know absolutely nothing about car audio systems (well except how to turn the radio on! :D) so please explain it in simple terms.

    Thanks

  2. Just been sent this at work today:

You are advised that the London Underground has reported some problems with gangs of criminals targeting cash machines. The pictures below were taken at Hammersmith District & Piccadilly station on 21.10.04. The first picture details how the Barclays cash machine normally looks. The criminals have been fitting portable card readers to the machines which clone the card details. The second picture details how the cash machine looks after the cloning device has been fitted with double sided tape.

Oxford has already experienced some similar incidents in the past 6 months. If you become aware that a device has been fitted to a cash machine, please contact the police immediately. Other customers should be discouraged from using the machine until the arrival of the police. These devices tend to be fitted to machines that are away from banking premises, such as the underground, outside supermarkets, petrol stations etc; this way the scam is unlikely to be discovered by banking staff. They are also in place for short periods of time, evenings, nights and at weekends.

    NORMAL MACHINE

    DEVICE IN PLACE

Please note that false device is cleverly constructed and sprayed the same colour as the machine to which it is fixed, it does not look immediately false or out of place. The machine will operate perfectly in that you will get your card back and the cash, balance etc that you have ordered. What the criminals get are your card details and in some circumstances your pin number, the rest you can imagine………….!

    Be careful everyone! :crying:

  3. As the others say:

Mozilla, SpyBot Search & Destroy, AdAware and your pretty much covered!

Infact I use Mozilla (on both PC and Mac) more then IE6. Only time I use IE6 is when I HAVE to with some sites not working properly on Mozilla.

  4. Took it for a good drive today - got up to the 120 / 130 mark

    Sorry :offtopic: but:

Aido - where do you go to get up to speeds of 130mph without fear of being pulled by the cops or getting a speeding ticket?

Is their some parallel universe that I don't know about? :P

Do you own a private track or something? B)

  5. Anees, if you don't like the missing right mouse button just plug in a two button mouse - works wonders!

Aido, I have tried that mate - the thing is I usually use the Laptop in the car (obviously while parked)/on the move so using a mouse is not ideal.

I also like how on a PC Laptop I can double tap the Touch Pad to double click - which I cannot do on a Mac. I'm just too lazy to CTL + click!

Glad your happy with your Mac.

  6. I used to turn up my nose at Macs - but having used one I wouldn't buy a Windows PC again!

Oh No! Another lost to the dark side! :P

I don't want to start the Macs Vs PCs debate but I use both Macs and PCs and I just cannot get used to the Mac. I hate the fact that their is no right click (have to press the ctl key to get the right click menu), Macs just seem to be abit unresponsive and slow at times. However they do have some positives such as looking cool and their wireless Airport system works very well.

    Each to their own.

    My Main PC:

    AMD AthlonXP 2800+,

    Asus A7N8X Deluve,

    1Gb Crucial DDR400 Ram,

128Mb ATI Radeon 9700 Pro Graphics Card,

    6.1 Sound,

    18" LG Flateron TFT Monitor,

    16X Pioneer Slot Loading DVD,

    52x32x52 Liteon CDRW,

    MSI Bluetooth,

    Floppy (wow!),

    120Gb HDD X 2 running in RAID 0 = Total of 240Gb HDD space,

    Videologic 5.1 Speakers.

Built it two years ago and it is still going strong.

    My Daily Laptop:

    apple iBook G4 1Ghz (sussh don't tell anyone ;)),

    12" Screen

    Mac OS X 10.36

    256Mb RAM

    30GB hard drive

    CD rewriter

    ATI Radeon Graphics

    Airport Wireless Card.

    Printers:

    Tally 9212 Laser (now bust!)

Epson 980N Inkjet (very old but cheap ink!)

I also have a Dell C640 P4 2.0Ghz/512Mb Ram/20Gb HDD laptop that I intend to use as the basis for my carputer when I get chance.

    Internet:

    750K Broadband via NTL.

Shared via a Buffalo Wireless Router to other PCs/Macs.

    Thanks

  7. Does a IS300 shortshifter fit on IS200 manual? LINK

The eBay offer looks good. I might be interested too (especially with the very strong pound at the moment ;) )

The part number on the eBay listing is: 45159

I had a look on the internet to see if I could find the part number for the IS200 version (if it is the same) and according to www.potn.com the IS200 quickshift has a part number of 45095.

So I don't think they are compatible. :(

  8. Hi Adam,

    The alloys do look GREAT!

But I have had trouble with them. The alloys that I bought were an offset of 38 - which I should have just about been able to get away with. But unfortunetly they did stick out abit too much and I was getting a scrapping sound.

Gord (top guy) actually met me and worked out that the tyres were hitting my arches whenever I went over a bump or dip in the road.

I got the aches rolled and it was much better but I still get rubbing with passengers in the back seat.

I am actually (thanks to Gord) waiting to have about 7mm taken of the mounting surface of the alloys so that the offset will be 45mm and they should then be perfect.

I did PM AltezzaScott (he also has/had the same alloys- et38) and he said he had no problems with them - so I am dissapointed that I have had them.

To be honest if you don't really have anyone in the back seat then you can get away with just getting the arches rolled.

You can read about the SAGA :crying: (with pics) in the following thread (bit out of date):

    Good Luck mate

  9. I got my first car when I was 19, H Reg Toyota Starlet (with manual choke! :)). I kept it for a about 8 months while I saved up to get my next car - a 1996 Mazda 323F 'Figaro'. I loved that car!

I have given it to my sister now but I still get a chance to drive it. Then a few months ago at 22 I blew the first years profit that I made from my new business and and bought my first Lexus! (My accountant would be so happy with me - NOT!!)

However I do wish I was older sometimes so that I could get insurance quotes that don't make me feel faint! :( (Probably the only advantage I can think of!:P )

  10. Clarksons Ford GT4 saga is making me laugh however! :)

The car is totally impractical and apparently can only do 76miles on a full tank! His daily journey to work is 77miles! :D

Plus he is still waiting for it to arrive, its only available in four (naff) colours and the price keeps going up!!

    HA HA HA! :) :) :)
