  1. Its because you've got 6 gears, how do you know you're in reverse ;)

Goodluck it getting rid of it

when the car starts to move backwards when you engage the clutch. :winky:

They use a common 'GEMS' module that's used on other Toyota Japan models were it's a legal requirement to have an continious bleep when reverse is selected.

Nothing to do with a six speed gear box.

  2. Mine is a June 03, and the gear box is the worst I have ever driven, I have had quite a few discussions with my dealer, test driven a few IS's they had New and used, no better than mine, after a long discussion and checking that my G/B had all the latest design changes and fixes, there commet was there nothing else they can do, you will have to talk to customer services, to date I haven't done this because I am so :tsktsk: off with the car and Lexus I might just sell the car and get something a bit more reliable.

  3. Yes - That's what I thought, the so called No 1, though I am having my doubts now ......

My thoughts since the second day of owning mine, I still can't believe they are No1 all I can put it down to is pride and not telling the truth when answering the questions set out in all the motoring surveys.

  4. and they reckon that the steering wheel allignment has moved because of the tyre change ??

    That's good one :lol::lol::lol:

I don't think so, not unless they moved the steering rack as well, best thing to do in found someone there who knows something about the mechanics of a motor vehicle, the dipstick you have spoken to clearly doesn't have clue.

    Well you may laugh ....

My steering was spot on central ...

Had tyres changed (nothing else) and then steering was off centre.

Only lasted for a while and gradually reverted to being central again.

Maybe due to tyres 'bedding in' or suspension extended while wheels off ?

Come to think of it, couple of problems i've fixed for people.

Cars pulling one way or another for no obvious reason..

Swap the tyres about and all then ok... weird :)

So, don't be too hasty to pick holes - odd things happen

I have spent many years repairing suspensions, changing around wheels, tyres etc and after proper road test, which is not just quick drive up the road, I never had one where the steering has been off centre and I would never give a car back to customer with a steering wheel off centre not unless I wanted to :tsktsk: him off

another example of :tsktsk: poor workmanship from the so called Number 1.

  6. hi all,  i am after a good/easy to use POI software for use with tomtom nav 3 i am wanting to add speedcamera poi  i did try  checkPOInt  but could never get it to connect to the net to validate/sync ---------------    so do u know of another one which works???  its for a PPC BTW.

Go to here type 'poi' in the box and click on search. I'm sure you will find what you are looking for.

  7. i even think the headlights are a bit IS looking.

Have you been to spec savers recently, B) the headlights on my IS look nothing look them, more like Dame Edna Glasses,

Nice flowing lines, front to rear, still for 58k it should be good

  8. Thew news IS200's have the arm rest installed in as standard ... well I know the SE one does.

When I asked my Lexus dealer how much it would cose them to install one in my car .... he said "we haven't actulally installed one to date, as it would cost about £650"

He reckons that he would have to change the whole center console to be able to house to arm rest !!!!

if your talking about this one fitted in my car, June 2003 IS200 Sport MANUAL

The dealer wants shooting for talking such crap, if your willing to pay 650 I'll supply and fit one for 600, it takes about an hour and that will nearly 400 pound profit for me

  9. I worked on police liasion at Vodafone many years ago, before we could give out any information we had to have a signed data protection document which was signed by a super intendant, and I guess it has got a lot stricter since then.

Mobile telephone company's don't just give out this information, you may find it cheaper to change your number and let all you contacts know.

Looks like things have changed, I was with Vodaphone when the calls started and they did not want know, I have joined another network and they have been very helpful up to a point, they checked all the dates and times I had recieved the calls and they confirmed it was the same number and what network they were coming from, when I asked for number they refused.

Have you contacted your mobile supplier and advised them that you are getting these calls? they used to do number changes free of charge.

Yes that's right, why should I do this I've done nothing wrong and in the end they have won. I can't let that happen because they have done wrong and the law is protecting them this is another example of this country rules and laws which were set up by liberials to protect guilty not the innocent

  10. nuisance phone calls come under the Malicious communications act, is also regarded as a form of harassment in extreme cases.

A crime report can be made under the malicious communications offence.

Police have training under the RIPA act, basically when speaking with the mobile phone operator and gaining details about the caller, justification has to be made that no intrusion of the callers human rights are being carried out, and that the request for caller information is wholly justified to prevent or detect crime.

Once the subject is found out, they can be warned by police against their calls/words over the phone, and advised not to repeat their conduct otherwise repeating the offence after a WARNING to CEASE would amount as Harassment and to commit a second offence, being a course of conduct complete knowing what they are doing is causing harassment/alarm/distress to the recipient, makes them liable to be arrested.  This info from phone companies to police has been known to take up to half a year to get.

That is the criminal line of enquiries, but ther will be civil routes that you are obvoiusly looking at.

Hi, Here lies my problem, I think I know the person who is making the calls and last thing I want is Mr Plod turning up on there door step, if I can confirm it's the person I know, it will all stop with one text message, it will be all over because the eliment of suprise will my mine. Just encase your thinking hello something dodgey going on here, you won't see a headline 'Man in Black Lexus Goes Mad' I like my freedom and IS200 to much to give it all up.

Thanks again guys for your help.

  11. The only firm I've ever used in this sort of area in Manches who have offices in London and Oxford.  My contact in the firm is a Rob Jonkheer based in Oxford - 01865-813608.  He could tell you who would be best to advise on this sort of matter (my clients who've used them on these sort of areas have always spoken highly of them).  If you do want to call him feel free to say I recommended them (Jonathan Russell of Critchleys).

Thank you for the information Jonathan, I will give them a call tomorrow and ask there advice, just hope I don't have to go to there offices as none of their offices are local to me, with a bit of luck it can all be handled by phone, post and email.

  12. what do you need to know about the act..

Mobile Tecommuication ref Nuisance calls by users with holding their phone number, there was a change in the ACT that came into effect late last year, The change effected how Land line/mobilephone companies handle withheld number information. I need a solicitor who knows about the ACT who can assist me in making my mobile phone operator give me the information on the user. It's all down to in legal jargen and a play with words and I'm not clever enough to take on a big mobile phone operator on my own.

The real :tsktsk: take is that I'm paying for some of calls when I'm working overseas and I don't appreciate being woken up at 3.30am in morning,

  13. As for the whole carrier bag sewn into the rear seat instead of a 60/40 split ?? What's that all about? :crybaby:  :crybaby:

Is yours sewn in mine has a zip for easy removal, it's for 'Ski's' or long pieces wood, came in really handy last week when I had to pick up half dozen 8ftx6inch lenght's from the local builder merchants, as for split rear seats didn't you read the spec before you brought your car

  14. :duh:

I realised the other day (don't have the car very long) that if you take the keys from the ignition and then realise you have left a window open you have to switch back on the ignition to close it !!!! Even if you start closing the drivers window automatically and remove the key it won't continue to close...........

My 2001 base model Avensis let you close the windows / sunroof with no keys in the ignition once you hadn't opened the drivers door !!

I would have expected that Lexus being Toyota derived would certainly have had this on a 2003 IS200.

    Shame on you Lexus!

    What's everybody elses' pet hates?

Mine has a 45 sec delay, after key off the drivers window still works one shot up for up to 45 secs.
