  1. Thanks Neil. Looks like I'll need the complete tray...
  2. With the rear cushion out for leather work, this is the ongoing issue of water ingress! It seems with the roof up during rain, pressure on the sill rubbers isn't made, allowing water into the seat well and the rear quarter panel. The rotating arm is sheared about 30cm from the connection which looks to have fractured. It is difficult to tell what it is made from. The Amayama site does appear to list these parts (I think)... 3. MOT history suggests it has covered 27k since its last MOT in June 2019. Needs exhaust. High Wycombe, Currently £1061 with 28 hours to run on the auction. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/276448288109
  4. Do the wing mirrors fold in Jamie? The wing mirrors do an awful lot more than I was aware of. If you have your rear view mirror set to auto mode, the wing mirrors also darken to avoid headlamp glare from behind. If you have the rear window defog enabled they heat up to clear moisture. This also happens when you have your wipers running at temperatures less than 25*C / 77*F
  5. Was there any further outcome with this replacement, as I have exactly the same issue?
  6. Previous owners had 3 youngsters. I think a sugary drink spill was left in the flat section which has discoloured the black leather. The car had been standing unused for 6 months plus, I found an apple from the same time in the rear console box. I had a quote for a full seat restoration but it was outside my budget and at that level probably unnecessary. I have used some leather recolouring balm/dye and some conditioner which has improved things nicely. The car has only 86k mileage so seat leather is in pretty good shape throughout other than the main seat panels which obviously get dried in the sun, or hold any water if the roof is left open in a rain shower.
  7. Having my SC430 on the road now, and very happy about that too, I am diving deeper into bringing back its glory. I’m renovating the leather upholstery. I have started with the rear seat cushion, simply as it was easy to remove and it’s raining. I'm concerned that the sculptured foam padding under the leather is wet. Has anyone suffered this same issue and can give me any pointers as to how/where water is getting in and how to resolve the leaks? Thanks as always
  8. Thanks Nigel. I need to do a little re-dying of my black seats. I also found this video very informative too.
  9. Just to add to this thread. I have recently bought an SC430 with a non operational Mark Levinson sound system. I located a blown 5A component fuse on the main pcb which had a dry joint so managed to revive the unit. I have been experimenting with it and I get the feeling that the head unit and amp section can get out of sync in the setup of Balance, Pan, Bass, Mid and Treble sections. Once happy with its operation, I re-centered all the head controls to "zero" and then disconnected the earth battery cable for 30 mins or so in order to re-sync both elements. I may be wrong but I certainly feel the default is now true and I can reach all extremes available in their range. Obviously this may be the case anytime you disconnect the battery for other reasons. Hope this helps
  10. Adam. If you are still breaking this car, I would be interested in the drivers door threshold, mine has a nasty discolouration in the Lexus logo/light. The front orange reflectors, at low level on each corner. Also the 2 triangular swing out parcel shelf corners please. pics and prices if possible. Thanks
  11. I have managed to resurrect my original unit. I would happily take a look at your unit. Maybe even purchase for spares if you are thinking of replacing it? I’m driving up to Edinburgh next month.
  12. I’m getting there. The stereo certainly runs down the battery quick. I left the radio on for maybe an hour whilst fettling other things before the battery died again! I wonder what other owners have done regarding the tyre puncture kit? Mine has a Dunlop Reifenpannen-Soforthilfe-System brochure. It has been deployed some years back it would seem. I’ve managed to lessen the roof knocking a bit although I’m quite concerned at how much I’m adjusting the stop.
  13. Similar to mine Cola What will you do for puncture repair?
  14. Great. Thanks Glyn
  15. Still many questions… I found these luggage loops in the tool wrap earlier. Am I right in thinking they just span the rearmost section? X marks the spots Is the cranked Allen key here for the roof front latch override? Can you reveal what is supposed to fill this narrow slot in the tool tray please? A pen? Torch? I took a 20 mile run out today, which leads me to think the binnacle illuminations may be faulty, mind you I’m used to the LS400 which are very bright and crisp. Thanks again for all the pointers.
  16. Hi Leigh As a new owner of an SC430 with a non-operational sound system I have done much research into now having it performing well. You've also posted numerous times about aerials both wing and windscreen which prompts me to ask: Do you have the factory Pioneer/Mark Levinson system? I know that after market units can't interface with the steering wheel controls.
  17. Well it appears not. There is a noted advisory "poss thermostat leaking coolant". Toyota coolant is red/pink, and there is some old staining in the water pump area. Having seen the Car Care video of the water pump replacement, there's not a lot you can do about an overflow when removing it. I'll keep my eye on it. EML - Timing belt issue fixed VSC - Reset yaw sensor Coolant levels, Oil levels etc all good Running bulb replacement (whilst inspecting brakes) Parking Brake adjusted at hub (24 clicks) and pedal My choice of Lexus secret behaviours Thorough visual inspection of brakes and suspension No codes. Paul at ToyotaTech Guilford 5*+ (he's booked up until mid June) Total cost less than 2 hours labour. To do: Tighten roof latches to lessen bumps and creaks. In adding the in-line fuse holder to the radio system, I appear to have resolved the 5A pcb fuse issue, so maybe it was a simple dry joint. I have been in there so many times now it holds no mysteries. The rear seat speaker is underwhelming but overall sound is exceptional. The "secret" switch in the armrest is bypassed currently. It probably requires something of better quality. It is 12v rated but has 3 pins. There is an LED which oscillates dimly when in circuit. Every time I use the switch I need to recycle the ignition for the system to wake up. It is probably too clever and reacts to increased resistance or voltage drop. I'll research it more as I hear the CD stacker travelling even without the ignition key in place, so it must add to parasitic drain. Re-load the extending aerial. It sticks up around 1" which obviously allows fod and water ingress 24/7... Cosmetically she's in good shape. I do need the passenger triangular sweeping panel adjacent the parcel shelf (maybe both would make sense). Front drivers reflector is cracked and needs replacing. I removed the rear lamps to clean any gutter debris behind them and the drivers side fixing is a rusty bolt without a cover, definitely a replacement. The drivers door threshold panel is also unsightly with a big scuff mark across the illuminated Lexus logo. All seats could do with some colour, particularly the flat seat sections, front and back. Whether this is dull due to sun bleach or water I don't know. I have some leather feed from Halfords, but it is clear and I have no experience of its effectiveness. I do have some LiquiMoly Gummi-pflege so will treat all the rubber seals once the rain subsides. Can't wait to get some miles under the belt
  18. Passed the MOT this morning. No advisories 😊
  19. As a new owner, I have only driven the car around 12 miles to its first MOT inspection for 18 months. Fingers crossed for today. During the run, I experienced the same problem so it's on my to-do list. I saw this post which may be helpful too, in lessening the creaks and pops... https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc430-2nd-gen-2001-2010/712343-top-opening-issue-fixed-details-inside.html
  20. I have recently gambled on an SC430. I've owned two LS400's over the past 16 years. This 03 model has an aftermarket switch installed in the centre console box alongside the 12v outlet. Removing the heated seat panel revealed that there were no connections to it, however, after removing the radio it was obvious the loom had been modified and exploring further two cables with blade connectors were there in the transmission tunnel. I will re-instigate this. The radio head unit had a blown 5A pcb fuse which I have replaced and the unit now runs well. I'm unsure if this "dirty" switch is the cause... The question is: Which feed should be switched to lessen parasitic loss? There is a 12v permanent (White/Red), a 12v momentary [or switched](Grey), and the Amp Turn-On trigger wire (also Grey).
  21. Paul had seen it once before, he said. He was pretty confident on the phone prior, that this may be the issue. I guess it is a tricky manoeuvre to crush the tensioner in the vice, insert the pin, bolt it into position and then pull the pin. He adjusted for 2 teeth, but after rotating through 2 cycles the marks were still 1 tooth off, so the routine happened twice. He loosened the bank 1 cap so he could see the marks between the halves. Great knowledge. Apart from a thorough checkover, Paul also adjusted the parking brakes and linkage, pads and discs ok for at least 12 months There was one code remaining, a B1248 LAN issue, but this due to the fact that the radio was in my workshop at home🥴 A few computer tweaks were also done. Windscreen nozzles cleared and aimed. Window operation on key fob Auto rain sensors set wipers to intermittent when car stationary.
  22. On a happier note. I visited Paul (ToyotaTech Guildford) this morning. Due to no current MOT I needed to trailer it there obviously. Since changing the valve solenoid the only codes were the misfire on bank 2, thats cylinders 2, 4, 6 & 8. First thing to check was the suspected timing belt. This had been replaced 12,000 miles ago. sure enough it was 3 teeth astray. within 30 minutes she was purring like a kitten. A quick reset of the VSC ABS in fact the Yaw Rate sensor and she’s good as new. IMG_0618.mov
  23. Short-lived sadly. I tuned the radio in about 10 stations, enjoying the sounds, then the audio stopped, then the display started flashing. Hang on. The battery was flat. Not enough to turn the starter motor
