  1. No, I was stationary, but will try again. I am still very surprised that it could be mistaken by 200 miles ← I tried again with same results :duh: I wonder wheter the Lexus is counting the sea distance between Dover and Calais?

  3. Hi Andrew, National flag thing sounds very cool! I am planning to drive to near the place you went in the coming months. I have a couple of questions: 1. Did you have your DVD / back seat LCDs fitted by Lexus? If not, could you please recommend the make you used and the place you had the kit fitted? 2. I noticed something very strange with the SAT NAV. I put my final destination and it calculated the total distance being around 800 miles. But when I did the same calculation on Via Michellin website http://www.viamichelin.co.uk it showed me around 600 miles.... 200 miles shorter! I am a bit confused and don't really know which to believe. Has anyone experienced this? Sami
  4. Hi, I am looking to get ICE installed on my RX and wanted some advice: 1/ Will my car's value be affected if I install it since it will not be factory fitted? 2/ Where is the best place to install this? 3/ Are there different types of models to choose from? If so, any recommended ones / ones to avoid? 4/ Does anyone have any recent pricing on parts/labor costs? Thanks, Sami
  5. As you can see my RX got taken over by chickens this weekend! I was driving to the Lake District and I accidentally took the M6 Toll instead of the M6. For some reason my SAT NAV did not recognise the M6 Toll, the display just showed white land. I was a bit surprised that the map was not up to date especially since I bought my car in 2005. It also randomly started thinking that there were roundabouts "Go straight through roundabout etc..." although I was driving on a highway. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it easy to get the DVD updated and is there a cost associated?
  6. The RX400H is supposed to have all season tyres as standard according to the website: http://www.lexus.com/models/rx_hybrid/specifications.html "18-in alloy wheels with 235/55VR18 all-season tires" The tyre size is the same as the one I'm looking for! Could someone with an RX400H please post their tyre make/model. Thanks, Sami
  7. What do you recommend as an all season tyre? I was previously looking at http://www.vredestein.com "XTREME DESIGN 4 SUV" tyres but apparently they don't have my size (235/55/R18)
  8. I think I'm going to get some all season tyres - this sounds to me like my best option as I can avoid having to swapping and storing tyres (I don't have any place to store a set of extra tyres!)
  9. I am quite surprised that Lexus's standard SUV tyres are not suitable for snow. They're probably trying to save some costs.
  10. Hi Merlin, Thanks for the tip. I had a look at the vredestein website http://www.vredestein.com and their tyres look very impressive. There is a link on their front page to the "XTREME DESIGN 4 SUV". This looks like a perfect all year tyre. I'll give you a call during the week to discuss. (Can you give some indication of tyre cost and fitting costs?) Thanks, Sami
  11. Here is a pick of one of my tyres, it doesn't seem to have M+S Are M+S tyres available from Lexus? If I have them put on, will I be able to use them all year round? Are there any major disadvantages? Or do you think that I should just stick with my existing ones and get some chains? Many Thanks, Sami
  12. I called Lexus GB today to ask for some advice, they did not know too much on the subject. I was then referred to my local branch then to my local service center and I got a large number of mixed messages: 1. One person told me that putting chains will make my car "unstable" as the Lexus is very advanced and has sensors in the tyres which will malfunction with chains. 2. One person told me that the standard Lexus tyres that are fitted by default are "M&S" which stands for Mud and Snow. Apparently these are supposed to handle perfectly well in occasional snow conditions and that I have nothing to worry about. 3. One person told me that the only thing I need is snow chains and that I should not even consider snow tyres for a short trip like mine (10 days). I was recommended a make of chains called "Rivenfield Rex TR" for 169 GBP total cost. 4. None could tell me where/how to fit snow tyres in the UK. All said that this is very non-standard and that they do not do it! I am confused :-|
  13. Thanks for the tips, very useful to know! BTW I noticed you carry both chains + winter tyres. If I put on winter tyres, is it also necessary to have chains in the boot?
  14. I've used a couple of Sony's with Bluetooth and they all worked very nicely. I would stay away from Nokias as you need to transfer your phonebook contact-by-contact. Sony's allow you to transfer the whole thing in one go :-)
  15. I will be driving from UK to Chamonix. So I guess that about 700 miles will be on normal roads/highways and about 20-30 miles on roads that might have snow. Where do you recommend I change my tyres? And where do people typically store their other set of tyres? (At the dealer?) Thanks, Sami
  16. I'm driving to the Alps. Most of my journey will be on highways but will have to drive through snow to reach my destinations. If I put snow tyres, will I be able to keep them on for all year use? Or do I have to keep on swapping between the original and snow tyres? Is there any major disadvantage if I keep snow tyres on all year? (I just want to avoid the hassle of going to garages etc...) Thanks, Sami
  17. Hi, I am looking to drive to a snowy area later this year and wanted some advice on any preparations needed. Does anyone know if the tyres that are fitted by default on the RX300 MK2 (2005 model) can handle driving in the snow? I would like to avoid having to put special tyres as my trip will be short and I do not want the hassle of putting new tyres then having to replace them unless there is a big advantage. I am also looking to get a roof rack for extra storage. Has anyone fitted something like this? Are they removable when not needed? Do they require any drilling to the roof or do they simply "clip" on/off? Thanks, Sami

  19. Got mine today in silver. I managed to find one of Ebay. This is a must have. I can't stop playing with it!
  20. I have an overland mini z rx300 (2004) in white. You can also get it in silver. They are branded as toyota harrier though. They are made by kyosho. I had my dad bring it back from hong kong but i'm sure you can order them over the internet. ← Thanks for the tip! I found it: http://commerce2.i2net.com/able55stores/st...-P783C104.aspx#
  21. Does anyone know of a place where I can purchase a Lexus RX300 remote control electric toy car?
  22. I have the 2005 model (series 2). Does it matter if you have it on all the time? does it consume more fuel in this mode? I also saw a few postings up that there is a way to put the RX in "sports ECT" mode so that it does the opposite. How is this done? I can only see one button saying ECT Snow?
  23. I noticed yet another button on my gearbox call "Shift lock". Does anyone know what this one does? :duh:
  24. I noticed a button called "ECT Snow" next to my gear box today. Does anyone know what this button is for? Thanks, Sami
