  1. Paint from lexus or get a can of the stuff they mix up from Halfords, prep the grille well by rubbing it down etc then undercoat it. Leave it to dry for as long as it says then rub it down again to get the undercaot smooth with very fine wet and dry, wash it with a mild detergent and leave to dry thoroughly.

Once you have done all that then you are ready to spray the topcoat, the biggest problem here is finding somewhere clean and out of draughts wind etc (i spray my stuff thats small enough in the bath and the missus goes barmy every time).

Start by just giving it a few light sprays to build up a bit of colour and build it up slowly without building up too much paint in one place otherwise it will run. Once you get the depth of coat and coverage you want leave it to dry for at least 24hrs, the baking process is what speeds this up.

Then put the clearcoat/lacquer on the same as you put the paint on and you are there.

If i do it i'll usually put on 2 thin coats of undercoat rubbing between each coat, 2 - 3 thin coats of paint and 2 coats of lacquer. Always spray in the same direction too

Hope that isn't too sucking eggs

  2. I also need some injectors, because in the end my Lex should run with 1G-GTE internals and ~350hp.

I'm searching for 440ccm injectors which would work with the OEM ECU for a short time, because I have to drive to the Haltech dealer after the rebuild of the engine.... -_-

    Greats, Luke

440 injectors are JDM supra and aristo injectors dunno if they are a straight fit etc but you should be able to find loads available

  3. Re: 1993 LS 400. Trac malfunciton light illuminates after very short drive. What are the possible causes and what/how do I check them out?

    Jon

To check them out you need the code read, After having a quick look the TRC light can come on because of the MAF failing, TRC ECU problems, and quite a few other things

http://www.troublecodes.net/Lexus/ look here it tells you how to get the codes out and as yours will be pre OBD2 then you'll be able to get them with jsut a jumper wire

  4. Dear All,

Dont know if I am the only member from China, I own a GS430 and want to upgrade my brake system, I knew the LS460 kit needs to remake the brackets and I want to know if I can install the IS-F brake on my ride without remaking the brackets?

    Thanks guys =)

    Angus

UK spec supra brakes for the front 325mm discs, but you will need to figure out the front wheel clearance. I'm looking at the plausibility of fitting the jspec fronts as rear brakes atm

  5. No, but then again theres only a few cars that are running 240+ and they're running a lot more than 250 most of them so they do need injectors.

As i told you in Pm mate, if you cant afford them now dont get them, if you take it to a decent mapper they'll get the most out of them for you. If its not 240+ your happy, if its just below, it doesnt really matter does it?

If your only planning on 250 why stretch yourself financially when 230-240 up from the standard 153 will be a great experience.

The only reason you would need injectors is if at WOT and high RPM you were getting near the top end of the injectors duty rate. I belive its around 80% they should be run for any length of time, the reason you would want to change them is to prevent a lean condition under heavy loads and as such detonation in the engine. If these boys reckon you don't need them i'd take their advice, why spend the money when you don't have to. If you are thinking about running more boost etc in the future then yes you will.

If its the emanage you will be using to control the fuelling then Ryan G on the supra forums is very well spoken of (if it hadn't been for circumstances i would have used him) and Thor in the midlands do the emanage too.

  6. hi there

thinking to buy the turbo kit that is for sale in the sale section. i need injectors to complete the kit so i was wondering where would i find injectors from

    thanks

Before you go down this route are you doing it yourself or are you paying someone to fit it?

Are you aware of all the mods that need to be done to fit a turbo? Its not exactly plug and play.

You can get injectors from Greddy, HKS, Delphi, in fact there are lots of brands but you'll need to know if its a top mount or side mount you want, if you'll be replacing the fuel rail and what size of injectors you need. Also if they are high or low impedance injectors.

If you know the answers to the above questions then look at ENVY, Prolex and whiffbitz they can usually get the bits you'll need. If you don't know the answers then i'd suggest you go resaerch it a bit more before you find out the whole costs and time for doing this.

Don't get me wrong i am not trying to dissuade you and if you go this route you'll enjoy it immensely, just don't want to see you get stung halfway thru ;)

  7. This is what you wanted:

    DSC05799.JPG

and this is what you go i assume?

    pressure_sensor_harness_new.jpg

Could you just not send it back?

took that long to get this cable would be eaasier to jsut make one and keep the cable as a spare.

I know it won't communicate thru the USB

I'll try and source some connectors i'm sure someone mentioned disc drive connectors but i thought they had 4 pins, if i take it into RS or maplins they can find one i suppose.

    Cheers stav much appreciated

  8. The Profec E01 can't be linked directly with the emanage ultimate,

I however am running the same setup using the Profec as an accurate boost gauge with the Ultimate,

You need to run the pressure sensor to the Profec E01 box (to the "Pressure" conection). Then theres and output port on the box isnt there (the "COM" port). You just need to run three wires from there to the input port of the Ultimate, you could chop the wire off the sensor?

Then plug it into the Ultimate and solder it onto the connections in the profec box? Thats what i did so i didnt have to buy the extra cable.

Looking at the plug on the profec box:

    White to the left

    Red in the Middle

    Black to the right

    Stav

By linking i meant what you have just said the com ports together, mine links with the usb cable as well but wont read thru that.

The problem here is have you ever seen my soldering :crying: i'll have to see if i can find what type of end connectors they are between the ports.

What i was suggesting was splicing two pressure sensor wires into one pressure sensor but wasnt sure if it would work. More inclined to do it your way though saves destroying a cable then

  9. I ordered a cable to go between the profec E01 and the emanage ultimate so they could share the info coming from the Greddy pressure sensor, problem is the muppets have sent me another pressure sensor cable  . Now this isn't a huge problem as i have anotehr pressure sensor so i could put the emanage in on a seperate pressure reading, but that seems to be creating clutter to me by adding that sensor i'll have 3 pressure sensors under the bonnet.

What i was wondering is if i can chop the ne harness and splice it into the installed one. Will it give me the same voltage down it or will there be some loss etc?

    Any answers appreciated

    Cheers

    Austin

  10. You tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is 'never try'.

  11. As the title says I am noticing a rumble when turning right, louder at high speed not noticeable upto around 15mph.

Can't work out if it is a bearing or which wheel either. No hub is heating up.

    any clues.

I am waiting for the service department to call me back so I can have them book it in.

It is still under the extended warranty I got with the car 5 months ago.

lower ball joints at a guess seem to be a weakness on the heaver lex's and if it becomes a rumble with a ticking sound its definately balljoints

  12. Does anyone feel that the Lexus is such a wonderful car and that Lexus service is so wonderful too, so much that we should donate, say, a meagre month's salary to help Toyota out in its time of need?

Thought lexus was stand alone now and toyota the parent rather than just a seperate wing of the company. Toyota can handle this downturn quite easily their fingers are in alot of pies

  13. Well got a phonecall today right on the deadline as to when i said i would go and buy one and seek to recover the costs via court, and guess what all of a sudden they are willing to get it repaired or replaced. I think they have been hanging ot out to see if i would buy one for myself and allow them to slopey shoulder it. Just need to wait and see how long it takes them to get it done now.

  14. Hi could someone help.

My father owns an IS200, now he wants the oil and filter changed, but IIRC theres some plastic tray also do i need special tools to take filter off etc?.

Advice would be great, how to go about it.

Seems a hell of lot easier of my s2000.

    Thanks in advance.

My top tip for removing filters is make sure you have a pair of marigolds ;) the rubber will give you the extra grip and will save you hammering a screwdriver thru the filter to start it off (strap wrench whats that :P )

  15. I bought one of those eBay DVB-T tuners ages ago and haven't fitted it yet, so looking to do it soon!

Thing is, ever since I had it the thing won't power up on the 12V 6W connection - it's just dead.

Never got round to sending it back and not sending it back to Japan as that'll cost more than it did - so just been having a nosey and it has a mini USB port which is unlabelled so thought I'd hook that up and bang up she comes lovely.

So I'm just wondering now, USB is putting out 5V with a max of 500mA - according to the label if it's 12V 6W then the most it would draw in theory is 500mA - is that right?!

It seems to work fine when hooked up to a TV while powered from the laptop - although at one point the laptop complained that an unknown USB device was trying to use too much power - I put some USB sniffing software on the case and it doesn't appear to present anything at all, no device ID whatsoever - so the computer doesn't see a device - just complains about the power.

When the message appeared nothing happened on the Tuner, ie it didn't shutdown or anything.

I'm just wondering out loud here - but does the following sound feasible:

Pick up a small USB2 hub tonight with a DC power input

Connect this to the DC adaptor I already have installed in the car to provide external power

Connect a USB Y adaptor to the hub - ie two normal USB ports to one mini USB port - used for things like external USB 2.5 HDDs that require more ampage than a single port can provide

Connect the mini USB connection to the DVB-T hub

Sounds like that should work to me seeing as the tuner is functioning off the 5V USB connection - this way just gives it more juice if required.

    What do you guys think?

The other option is to look at the PCB - which I've done already - and I can only find one fuse on there directly behind the 12V connectors.

I'm guessing that's blown so as a test I could just solder a wire between the two points and see if it then functions via the 12v connection?

Not really got much to lose either way I guess as my only expenditure here is either a USB hub which I can reuse or a cheapo solder iron, some solder and some thin wire!

What do you reckon please fellas?

what kind of usb is it normal type or mini if you look at some of the phone chargers in halfrauds there are some with a usb attachment on them you could bastardise one of them if you didnt want it hanging out the ciggy lighter

  16. Yeah heard good things about them just wanted peoples opinion on them....let me know what they are like if you beat me to it stav.. :D

I had toyo's on the GS and i personally thought they were great. Wouldn't hesitate to buy some for the aristo either i just fancy a set of the road legal semi slicks R333s ?

    Arent they R888's?

Could well be i was looking at the sticker from an angle :whistling:

I knew what i meant

  17. i too could do with a couple of keys for my L400. 1993. only have one and the remote doesnt work. was told at one of those key bars that its dealer only as mine will have a chip in it. is this right or can i get a cheap simple key from a key bar for a 1993 L400? not too bothered about remote. Just want a share key.

You can get transponder keys for them but you'll need to find out how to sync it with the car

  19. i guess it just depends on individual taste. i like things that feel expensive, with a little weight. But this does feel cheap and tacky and the spring mechanism is a lil well cheap and tacky lol.

For the record i will use this as my main key as still looks ok, just wont let anyone examine it.

oh and another negative, i want the lexus symbol on my key!?

thats why i have some going for testers etc to get feedback ;)

If its the same key you should have had a lexus symbol with it, its a small metal adhesive backed oval

  20. hi,

i changed the alloys as soon as i bought the car, it had stock rims on before. Im pretty sure the offset is correct. Its such a bugger as my pads only have a few mm left until they hit the sensor. As i said it has always had a 5mm spacer on there but for it to get clearance with the new pads on it needs around 10mm. So i need to gain 5mm somewhere????

    Regards

I'd seriously consider longer studs if i were you 5mm to take off the caliper seems alot

  21. So do you get these from E-bay or are they supplied from yourself mate ?

I buy them in basically from whoever does them be it eBay or one of the trade places. Transponder keys have to come from trade as i can't find another source and they are just solid normal keys not flips
