  1. when ever I come on this board I can't help but feel sometime that its full of aspirational boy racer types and I am not sure of quite quite what I am doing on it ( that said I keep coming back) I have to admit I paid less for my car (is200 se auto navigator 52 @ 24K ) than I paid for a rover 220sdi new in 97 and it was certainly less than I was recently looking at paying for a fully outfitted new passat or accord. Looking at the sales package from the sheffield dealership and the prices, I would have to think twice (about replacing the car with the new model but it got me thinking. Maybe the uncomfortable truth is that if you feel you are unable to afford the price of the new car, then in Lexus's eyes you are not the target market for their products, Is this something similar to what happened to bmw with the precieved image that cars of a certain age are then picked by pimps or drug dealers etc and it takes the shine of the brand and lexus have learn't from this and are moving to take the new car out of the "undesirables" reach ( me included ).

Here is a little math that might prove helpful. What makes life 100%?   3. Had a go boxing and its amazing how many people "windmill" under stress ( me included) . Its the hardest thing physically I have done, 3 rnds going like a loon at another loon. Claim to fame was it was a Brendan Ingles gym when Prince Nas was training. I think the first vid was a lucky blow second was just class

I had the same problem, Basically it was explained to me that I had an old ps2 ( about 5years) and that it could not deal with a disc that has over a certain amount of data or that the laser head was going. As it was the ps2 stopped playing anything shortly afterwards so I just put it down to the laser not being up the the job
  5. I had a friend who while riding his bike hit a car in the passenger door when it turned in front of him. He was awarded a 5 figure sum in compensation as the car driver had no insurance, had been drinking and failed to spot a bike comming towards him with its lights on. his bike crushed the side of the car to the gearbox and basically only the door saved the driver, The car was knocked on to its side , my friend broke both his arms above and below the elbows and many ribs as his girlfriend slide into the back of him and pushed him into the roof of the car. The bike was thrown 10 foot over the car ( big honda 900) He was thrown 20 odd feet over the car and his girlfriend a little further. I have to admit when I managed to get turned around and back to the crash site I was sure he was dead. His girlfriend looked perfectly okay but was complaining of a sore calf and but looked okay and left okay when I patted her down but she did have very tight spray on jeans, so when the ambulance medic cut her jeans to check her calf, it sort of split open like mince and then started to bleed like you would not belive, there was no sign of any bleeding at all when we were sat with her. I brought up breakfast and the last nights dinner at this point. Seeing the photo brought it all back won't wish that on anyone. car driver had his wife and sprog in the back seat and all he could say was something to the effect he didn't see the bike comming
  6. have 15 on the doc but only 3 are current. never banned and never had more than 6 current points caught in wakefield by camera doing 34 in 30mph zone a mw10 ( following other cars joining m1 at m62/m1 junction only I got pulled) eg crossed white hatching area by 30 foot odd - was told I could have started a riot by pushing in qued traffic on m1 and faced a case of road rage. Strange traveled that route every day for 3 years and have yet to see it occur 35 in 30 zone with a car and video just outside darton shell factory others were bike related generally valid speeding either on the A1 ( 95ish) and another 3 for something similar The low speed ones really ***** me off as all the sites were ambush points especially the one with car and the video camera

  8. I work for a company that manufacturers kit to help set up new cars on the production line. And its interesting to see that the manufacturers are giving the tmp life spans as 10 years or in milage. the tmp can detect acceleration and once it gets to about 20Km wakes up and starts sending information. Tire shops are gonna hate the fact that they can't make a easy profit from changing the valves as they normally do when a wheel goes in for changing. It tells me they had never seen a car with a tmp in and just treated it as a standard tire
  9. I work for a company that designs systems to either read the tire pressure monitors on tire lines eg tmp, wheel or car production lines. As far as I know from the data sheets I have seen there are none where you can adjust the pressure limits eg its all set by the manufacturer.
  10. this is the euro auto I have driven and I have to admit I am not sure I like it and its for the following reasons. Forget the acceleration side of things as it doesn't seem to be much different but the big thing for me is the braking side. Becuase in normal " D" mode there appears to be no engine breaking at all so its all on the brakes I tend to have two concerns. One the wear rate of the front discs and pads will be higher I now tend to nurse the car eg maker sure I am not applying the brakes heavily and don't "hustle" the car as much as I do with a manual. The second is from an eye openning experience I had in the US regards auto cars. I was sent to work in Denver and over a weekend had some time off, got in the hire car and went up "Pikes peak" which is a 14000 ft mountain with a road up the side to the top. Going up was not a problem but on the way down I was aware of the lack of engine braking and used one of the lower auto box settings to get the engine involved in slowing me down. Roughly half way down there is a ranger station or the like and there was a guy using an infra red temp gauge to examine the brakes temperatures and if they were over a certain temperature would ask you to pull over and wait till they had cooled eg go get a coke and drink it then carry on. As soon as I spoke to him he said something to the effect "oh your used to driving using engine braking I won't have to test your brakes" I was not quite sure what he was on about so I asked him and he basically said that peopole who drive auto cars get so used to driving in "D" only and using the brakes on roads where heavy brake usage is required it is possible to heat up the disc's and calipers so much that you can get the brake fluid to boil and in effect lose the vast majority of your braking force. These are the only concerns I have about an auto box and I have to admit I am more worried about the brake wear than the temperature issue. Just compare an auto car and manuel car and look at the size of the brake system certainly on the IS200 it seems much more substaintal than other cars of the same size and as such I cringe at the though of having to replace them due to wear
  11. a lexus fob is 433 mHz Other item on a car that use this are tire pressure monitors that transmit roughly every 30s. some small toys use this as well as other wireless security systems
  12. had a slow puncture yesterday only to find a nail sticking out of the center of the tire took it off and had the boss take it in to be plugged. Only cost £7 to be sorted . you have to have some advantages living in Barnsley
