  1. I could feel it but only very slightly and when turning slightly. It was deffo not straight. The steering on the IS is slightly strange in that when you are straightening the wheel up after turning a corner you have to actually straighten the wheel by yourself so it is fully straight. whereas in most other cars the wheel will straighten up by itself practically all the way. I would hazard a guess that this is designed to be like this to give a smoother drive in the same way that the electronic throttle control is designed to do.

    I also assume that this is why I couldn't feel the wobble when driving in a straight line and only when I was putting some pressure/force on the steering wheel by turning.............If you catch my drift.....LOL

    But I am 100% certain that the wheel wasn't straight in any case.

    I do not get the new bearing until wednesday morning so I will let you know the number then!!

  2. The wheel deffo wasn't straight but it was only very slightly off. I could see the wobble with my head out the window while driving in a straight line. And it was deffo the wheel and not just the tyre :P

    I haven't got the bearing out of the hub assembly yet as I lost my 32mm socket :blush: but I will let you know what the number is when I do.

    BTW- do you know if the bearing needs to be pressed in/out???

  3. I think the last time the wheel was put on it didn't fully straighten up against the disc for some reason. This caused it to wobble slightly but because it wobbled constantly it gave the bearing a bit of abuse. This is even worse at motorway speeds when the wheel is constantly vibrating. Although I didn't notice the vibration through the steering wheel in a straight line, I did notice it when turning very slightly to the left.

    I will be cleaning the surface of the disc/wheel with a wire brush before I put the wheel back on and I will also check that the wheel/tyre is correctly balanced.

    On another point, I was dissapointed to find that all the major bearing distributors here did not list a wheel bearing for the IS. The GS, LS and most other toyotas and Lexus' were listed but I had to go to the dealer to get the bearing for my car :angry:

    This is at a cost of £58 + VAT :blink::angry::angry:

  4. Hi folks,

    I have noticed over the last week that my wheels bearings on the front driver side wheel have been steadily getting worse and worse with the sound of the wheel bearings going.

    I have not hit the wheel or even driven the car excessively to warrant the bearings to go. I have got 19" wheels which I think may be the cause but I was wondering if anybody had this problem before???

    I jacked the car up last night and give the wheel a wiggle to find that the bearings have at least 3-4mm of play when I shake the wheel :crybaby:

    I am now not driving the car unless I have to until the bearings are replaced :blush:

  5. My dad had a brand new one of those a few years back with 17" OZ ceres wheels with a huge dish on them. It was the 728i too. He never had any probs with it but lets face it.............IT'S STILL A BMW!!!!!

    DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :crybaby:

    BTW He still has the wheels with good tyres if your interested!!! :lol:

  6. I did read your post correctly and I am agreeing with you about the disc size and different braking forces as that is the whole idea with bigger discs.

    The bit I said about the servo is simply that if a different caliper is connected with a standard servo unit, the caliper and/or servo unit may not work to its full potential (due to different pressures needed or different grades of brake fluid needed etc) as they may not be made to match. Therefore I would prefer to use my standard caliper with my standard servo as well as getting the brake bias setup to compensate for the bigger discs. This is cheaper too. :blush:

    I asked about the supra/IS430 setup because I would rather use those than this particular kit I mentioned.

    I will certainly have a look at some of the brands you listed there as I will need some better stoppers after engine rebuild :D

  7. I seen a kit in the POTN catalogue although I can't remember the brand name. All you do is give them a few measurements of points that your calipers and discs are at and they will custom make a big brake conversion to fit your car!

    They will give you new discs with the option of drilled/grooved or both and will they will also custom make a bracket to relocate your standard caliper.

    From what I can remember they weren't too expensive either!!!

    thats a perfect example of a non matched brake set up, and I wouldnt trust it if being used at the limits. :excl:

    thats a bling brake set up.....thats could make the braking characturistics of a car become lethal!!

    The product I am talking about does the exact same job as most of the major BBK manufacturers, only they are able to do it for any car. This would have been a good thing I thought, as you know yourself, that parts and upgrades from major manufacturers are not always listed for the IS, and can be hard to find.

    The other advantage of this is that you still use your standard caliper which is already matched/suited to your servo etc.

    On another point. I read a mention in this thread of bigger brakes from a supra/IS430 etc etc. Does anybody know if bigger brakes from the likes of these cars will fit and what mods if any would need done? I would still prefer to use bigger brakes from a standard Toyota than buy some after market ones unless I was gonna spend a lot of money to get the best setup.

  9. 99 civic coupe vti!!!!!

    quick car for good money and looks way better than the 306.

    It is also very practical and above all is prob one of the most reliable cars on the planet!!!

    It is also very easy to mod/tune if she is into that.

    You shouldn't need any points to argue about the 306 cos it is rubbish and french and will break!!!!!

    My girlfriend had a Dturbo one and they are a nightmare!!!!

  10. A friend of mine has had two seperate cars both fitted with Toad alarms and both were broke into on seperate occasions.

    In both instances the Toad alarm didn't even sound any warning let alone stop the wee buggers.

    And i know that the second car at least definately had an approved fitting certificate.

    My advice would be to rip out the Toad and fit a clifford for real peace of mind!!

  11. S2000's are still fetching a bit more money than you are wanting to pay but I would say bite the bullet and buy one as they will out perform almost any convertable in their price range and are the most reliable car of the year bar none.

    Also, they aren't girly and look good.

    They demand respect from most cars on the road too.

    Only downside is the group 20 insurance.

  12. It is put in at the bottom of the filler neck where it meets the tank!

    Doesn't interfere with the breather!!

    It is a walbro pump which I am told is capable of running 500bhp worth of fuel to an engine.

    My fuel pressure is at either 3.5bar or 4bar but it is not going above 4bar as it messes with the spray pattern.

    Once i get new injectors it will be back to 3bar base pressure!!!! :D

    I can see where both parties are coming from but can also see the flaws.

    Put simply- there is no need for 700cc injectors to produce 330bhp.

    but also as Jonny(airforceone) mentioned, upping the fuel pressure is ok to a point but it can ruin the spray pattern if raised too much.

    I am waiting on a set of 315cc injectors which will allow me to run .6/.7bar of boost while still only using the normal recommended 3bar of fuel pressure.

    This will suit me fine until I do the engine rebuild but then I will need injectors about 440/450cc to run the higher boost. (can't bloomin wait!!!! :D )

    Obsessed- where did you source your injectors from and do you have any old aftermarket ones that you may be looking rid of????

    Marcus- looking forward to hearing how the motor runs with the forged goodies in there!! what make of pistons/rods did you get?

    Oh and as I said in a previous post---turbo all the way!!!! :D
