  1. Liam, I put down a few words on the best way to extract more power from the 2JZ-GTE engine in this forum, it's called 'Basic 2JZ-GTE tuning guide' and it should put you on the right track. I'm no expert, but I had a Supra and that's basically everything I picked up and learnt. Power is anything from 280-320bhp depending on the condition of the engine, 0-60 for stock is something like 6.5secs and it should hit 170mph with enough room/power.
  2. Funny you should ask... Power and torque curves as measured last Saturday at Thor Racing. These figures are at the hubs, not at the flywheel as the graphs state. Peak boost has been raised by the ECU to 1bar, just shy of the fuel cut.
  3. Thanks guys. Yes, very pleased - glad to finally have a car again!
  4. After a few months of searching and having no luck with sourcing one from Japan, I finally picked this up last weekend - went all the way to North Wales to collect it! It's a 1994 V300 with around 77k miles. In many ways, I feel it's like a spiritual successor to my Supra, except with much lower insurance and lots more room, which is always a plus. Currently it's pretty much standard, which is exactly what I wanted, apart from the lowering springs and Tom's Performance ECU. The paintwork is looking a little tired in places, but the interior is very clean, it drives well and it's mechanically sound. It's quick too and I love the fact it looks so innocuous. Can't wait to ramp up the power!
  5. I'm not sure about the specifics, but I spoke to Pete from Thor last week and he reckoned that it should all work without a problem.
  6. Failing that Thor's gubbins will work fine as well.
  7. Just wondering if anyone knows what the silver paint code or colour name is on the mk1, cheers.
  8. Bit of an odd request, but would be handy if someone had some stock suspension going spare or very cheap, cheers.
  9. I just wanted to say that they are all quick cars, let's be clear about that - we don't want this to turn into a 'my car's better than yours scenario.' Obviously, we can't tell how hard each particular car was driven for sure. However, what Chips says would be an indicator of the 2JZ-GTE's extra performance over its predecessor - the fact that a slightly lighter, manual car was matched by a heavier, automatic one. I think what Steve says highlights the fact that while there is some performance difference between the engines, this is marginal, and any advantages that the Supra may have over the Soarer will be measured in tenths of a second, which doesn't really mean much in the real world. That's just my opinion mind.
  10. I think the fact that the Soarer uses a parallel turbo setup while the Supra uses a sequential one goes some way to explaining why the Supra feels faster. It also has a lot of torque - around 320lb/ft - and 80% of this is available from just 2000rpm - the Soarer has significantly less torque, which peaks higher up the rev range and it makes its peak power higher up in the rev range too, which means that you don't need to rev the Supra as hard to extract all of its power.
  11. If it gets your seal of approval Gaz, then it must be worth the money :) If you've got the money, then that's cool, but I'm approaching this from a budget perspective.
  12. Sh*it, sorry, my internet screwed up. Little help deleting the duplicates, anyone?
  13. £10k for a Mk1?! That's a lot of money when you see the prices of Mk2s. You didn't mention the FMIC, Ti exhaust etc!! In that case, yes, it was unrealistic, but Paul (Whiffin) found me a 94 car, with 100k Kms, 19s, kit and exhaust and that went for £5.5k, so around £6-6.5k otr. I wouldn't pay £10k for a Mk1, but if you really want it and it works out cheaper in terms of mods, then it might make sense. Btw, not a one-off as the one for £14k on Autotrader is also a manual - It's in this month's Jap Performance.
