  1. now has coilovers fitted....YAAAYYYY :)

  2. cant wait to fit my new coilovers :)

  3. as above, after a set of coilovers for an is200, cheap as possible please, but not seized! thanks
  4. is looking forward to recieving the coilovers for my LS :)

  5. Got around to fitting them today, decided to slam it, but the rear will need lifting tomorrow due to the backbox hitting the floor everywhere.
  6. hi everyone, just been and fetched a set of gab coilovers with adjustable dampers for £200, anyone know if there anygood or not? should of asked this before i fetched them really haha
  7. I am looking at some coilover kits and i will probably buy a tein one. This seller at ebay -> link seems to have a lot lower price from local stores and his feedback seems high enough. Does anyone have any experience with him? I never bought something so pricey from ebay...
  8. hi, i brought a 2001 is200 other day and im planning on lowering it, has anyone used one of these kits? http://www.theboombopshop.com/Skunk2-Racing-Adjustable-Coilover-Kits-s/379.htm or should i stay clear?
  9. hi, im looking to get a set of coilovers sometime next week, but i have no clue which ones to get.. can anyone reccomend any and the best place to buy..... it would be greatly appreciated... thanks.
  10. Hi, It's a bit long, but I'd like to give my personal opinion of fitting the BC Racing Coilovers to a 1998 Mk 4 LS400. Firstly I'd like to say that I only bought a LS400 for the engine - my wife uses my mums old Scimitar as a track day car. We have changed the front suspension and brakes, ditching the old Triumph based setup with Jag XJS and fitting a roll bar to the Salisbury 4HA axle (it already has a watts linkage) the Scim (being almost mid engined - the front pulley behind the center line of the front axle) now handles and stops like a dream - it's only the old Ford V6 that lets it down. Do we tune it up or put a more modern and powerful engine in. We went for the more modern engine pretty much on cost alone. I bought the missus a 94 LS400 for Christmas (what better gift is there?) and she smoked around in it for a few months. As you may have guessed she got quite attached to the old barge. So before pulling the engine she bought herself a 2 owner 1998 Mk4 with full Lexus Service history, but sods law just needing a service (Chris at CTP sorted that lot out). So we didn't go out of our way for the magic carpet ride or ultra quiet car - to us it's a cheap car that has a nice engine, and we've now got rather attached to it. Caroline's 98 LS has bigger wheels and lower springs - a dealer fit option. The OSF spring had broke - so I set about pricing replacements. Chris at Cheap Toyota Parts gave me a price for a complete set of original dampers. gaitors, bump stops etc. (not springs) and Lexus Guildford did the same - but also said it would be worth changing the top mounts. Ouch - we're now getting into some serious money. KYB and Bilstein list shocks - but lowered springs can be a problem - at least in the UK, and I'd still need gaitors (mine had split) and probably top-mounts - so I bit the bullet and went for a set of BC Racing Coilovers from BC-Racing.co.uk - who are Apex Performance. A few weekd ago I fitted the front coilovers (along with upper arms - just to be safe) - and tried to adjust the ride height. Caroline's car was sitting at a ride height of 28" (ground, through center of wheel to wheel arch). With the Coilovers at their max height I could only get 27" - one inch drop may not be much but it looked wrong (you've all seen cars like that). We set the dampers to 9 and Caroline used to car for a week or so - ride was great. The only bug bear (apart from the looks) was on large undulations at highish speeds you could hear a scrape - this was the outside edge of the tyre hitting the inner plastic arch clips. Maybe because I have the larger wheels, anyway something needed to be done. In the mean time - I thought I'd get on and change the rear. When I put those on I set them to thier maximum height - as I needed to on the front. That was a mistake - after dropping the car down I had over 29" rear ride height. I then set the rear to 27" so the whole car was level. We then played with damping rates - settling on 6 rear 9 front. There are 30 levels. In the future to set the rears I'll need to remove the rear seat back - which is no great hassle - and BC Racing do an extended adjustmet rod that would almost fit between the rear seat back and rear panel (where the sub is) - but we didn't want to hack things about just in case. So - what to do about the ride height? The car looks wrong - but the worst bit is the odd noise on those large undulations when the car compresses after lifting. Bumps don't trouble it, just high speed compression (yeah yeah drive slower). 4 up was also no problem, so the ride height did not make the car undrivable - maybe I'll change the inner arch screws or the arch itself? I phoned up BC-Racing.co.uk and asked the lady that I was having trouble getting the ride height correct - she put me onto a chap called Kev. After checking that I'd actually got them set to their max height he emailed the factory. I was now expecting a long wait. The next day Kev phoned me back saying that BC Racing have sold lots of the kits in the US with no problems - maybe they packed the wrong length dampers, could I go and measure them. No problem there - they should have supplied 220mm front dampers - and my dampers were 220mm, hmmmm. I took a couple of photos and sent them back to Kev - he immediately replied not to worry and that he'd get the car set back to it's 28" ride height asap. In fact he was arranging longer dampers from the factory to be flown over with their next order - the next day!! A couple of days later the longer dampers turned up. The following weekend I fitted them and set the rears to 27 3/4" (actually I set the whole car to 27 3/4" as I couldn't be bothered to wind it up that last 1/4" inch). Caroline has now been using the car for a couple of weeks - her normal journey is fast dual carriageway - where the LS really shines. She has also done a fair bit of rough back lane journeys. Are we happy? A definate yes - Ok the LS did have a magic carpet ride around town, but felt a bit floaty and dare I say unhappy at speed (silly speed I have to say). Now the car is "planted" - as Caroline says. All that floaty and slightly nervous feel has gone. If one of our springs was not broken I expect the car would feel the same with new Bilsteins and original uprated springs, but that would have cost a whole lot more. There are no noises or squeaks. Our 94 LS was too soft, the 98 LS was much better - the high speed lift/floaty feel being the only let down. The BC Racing setup is perfect for Caroline's dual carriageway/motorway journeys. In fact Caroline would now take it around Goodwood as it handles so much better (that, I'd like to see!). I have to say a big thank you to Kev at Apex Performance, who true to his word sorted out the ride height in a few days, it's great to find a company who know their product and are willing to help. If you want that slammed look - stay with the standard package - if you want a normal ride height ask for longer front dampers (220mm standard - 260mm long). If you want a more original ride ask Kev for different springs and he'll sort out a package for you. I also have to say thanks to Chris at Cheap Toyota Parts for loads of other bits that he's got me and Naveed at PRI Racing who has been helping me out with Poly bushes for the car (he's got loads listed for the earlier models, we're working through the car at the moment for our 98 car). I'll post details when I have changed a few more. And if you've read this far the Scim has the Lexus V8 in - prop made, dad's currently making the manifolds. Cheers, Ben (p.s. - I'm in no way connected to Apex/BC Racing - CTP or PRI - just a happy customer).

  12. I know i am posting alot of topics on here at the moment but thought it was about time i got myself more involved and let you all know what was going on and thought id start using you all for information :D I managed to get hold of a set on Tein HA coilovers the otherday for a bargain price and had a bit of a roadtrip from Costa del Cardiff to Rubgy to collect them. I got round to fitting them yesterday and I am loning the difference it has made. My previous car was like a go kart and when i first got my IS i hated the way it handled. I have had the car about 18 months now and to be honest i used it mainly as a run around and wasnt all that bothered with it. I am now in love with the car again though. I have had a full stainless system fitted, de-cat but had a resinator fitted to keep the back pressure. I also have alot of other plans which i will be honest may not be to the taste of some people on here but i will post pics to get your reactions very soon Anyway thanks in advance guys and your going to be hearing alot more from me in the near future and i will get some pics up for how she looks with the coilovers on as soon as i have finished tweaking it myself to how i want it
  13. Need coilovers asap If anyone has any for sale then give me a call 07791279973
  14. I'm after a set, just wondering what people have experience of and I'm trying to see which'd suit me best. Really fancied HSDs but having looked at the group buy I'm tempted to just go for them but a monotube system would be better as I'm planning something big for the future...
  15. hi all, as above really, does anyone know how to fit coilovers? any step by steps to fitting new suspension or is there anyone in the midlands who would be so kind to fit them for me? a few extra notes before xmas? ;) thanks :D:D
  16. ok guys i got myself some bc racing coilovers... however theyve only being fitted a month and theyre doing my head in already as they have just started squeaking... has anyone else had this problem or anything... im starting to think i may have to return them??? heres a pic of the car as it sits at the minute...
  17. Hi all hope everyone is good. Anyway i was wondering what coilover and the best value for money. As it appears thats that one of my rear shocks is on its way out, so looking at my choices, i was planing on getting a some from the group buy that is going on but that seems to have died on its feet. So looks like iam going to have to pay full price. What coilovers you guys using and whats your reviews on them?
  18. I was just wondering if anybody had the measurements for how much should be considered a sensible and usable drop using BC coilovers and 18" wheels with 40 profile tyres? (im thinking its a long shot but i'll at least try) Cheers.
  19. if anybody heres loking coilovers get yourselves down to the groupbuy section of the forum and lets get enough numbers for this to go ahead.....
  20. as title says. im after coilovers and lsd to fit my 2000 is200se.... thanks...
  21. Well my coilovers arrived thanks to the sale from Hodaz, so on the mates driveway off with the old and on with the new. Firstly the BC coilovers have the ability to drop the car WAAAAAY below anything that is driveable. The normal adjustments on the bottom of the shock will drop it too low as it is then if you want to get technical you can play with the spring rates on the rest of the shock and then have about another 100mm worth of drop! Damping rates couldnt be easier to adjust with a twist knob on top of each shock. Well... what a difference they have made to the car - i was expecting obviously the looks and handling improvements but i didnt expect the other things that came with it. When i used to start my car i used to get a little clunk as the engine kicked over, nothing major but i thought a mount or something was loose along the lines, i noticed this disappeared after changing the coilovers. Gear changing between 1st 2nd 3rd at nice low speeds has become SIGNIFICANTLY easier and smoother, oh i cant even begin to describe how much nicer it is - so precise and smooth with no lunge from the car because of the old saggy suspension. And...! I used to have the infamous 'judder under braking' problem that many people have described - completely gone! So, all round - an absolute bonus for me, really happy with the handling and looks and super happy about the other problems it seems to have remedied :) Previous shocks had reached 95k miles. I think in all honesty i need to raise the front a few mm, it seems to be all settling in now...
  22. Hi all, I am getting the BC Racing Coilovers. Details of the coilovers are on this link: BC Racing Coilovers Does anyone have these installed on their IS or had any experience with them? I have had a Google and people seem happy with these on their cars, but I cannot find any reviews of these installed on an IS. Thanks
  23. Hi Peeps, I have just bought myself a gs430 v8 on a 2001 awesome machine and bags of torque I have a couple of questions i hope you could help me with 1. does the gs430 share the same suspension as the gs300..?? 2. my power steering doesnt seem to work, its there ever so slightly but its very hard to turn on standstill, and when driving. I would really appreciate your help as i have 2 faulty rear shock absorbers that are leaking and clunking, and i have a set of gs300 mk2 coilovers just wanted to know if they would fit Thanks Zee
  24. Hey everyone, iv got a brand new set of HSD coilovers coming on Monday..Cant wait :) Im going to try and get them fitted next sunday. Just wondering if anyone else runs on coilovers and how low can u go, how stiff do u ride etc? Im thikning of lowering it slightly more than it sits just now, but just to see how i get on as speedbumps are everywhere around here, and sometimes my underbody braces scrape, iv thought about taking it off as i beleive u lose nearly an inch of clearence underneath the car.. but im thinking with my ARB's and underbody braces it should be awesome with good stiff suspension :) Dave.
