  1. Hi my 2012 RX450h tailgate will not open. Any ideas how to open it? The car starts and runs OK. I think I hear the lock kclicking - I checked the switch in the glovebox and it is in. The AUX battery went flat over Christmas when the car sat for 4 weeks or so. My wife does not like driving it and I was laid up after surgery. I have read a few posts but cannot find how to open the tailgate manually. I suspect the battery may be duff now. If I want to swap the bat I will have to get it open so there must be a way. I will charge the batter from under the bonnet - it seems that some people had success with this method. Any suggestions (to open the tailgate) will be much appreciated - I know flattening a lead acid battery is a bad idea. I am an electrical engineer!! I don't want to fetch a crow bar to the back door. Regards Bren I found how to open the backdoor on Youtube. A pain for a fat old boy like me!!

  3. Flat battery on 2020 UX250h. I cant find a way to open the power back door to enable me to use a trickle charger on the flat battery. I've looked for the solution in the car manual on line but cant find the answer. Any suggestions?
  4. Hi everybody. I'm having problems closing the tailgate (automatically). Sometimes, it gets half way down then stops, goes CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK, and opens again. Didn't happen till hot weather The struts are new, and are the correct ones. The sound sounds like a knackered cog or something... I might try and investigate, but would like to hear if anyone else has had the same problem. 2006 RX400h
  5. Hi everyone just a random bit of information I found on my recently aquirred CT.. On the CT tailgate to the right of the opening, oblong, button there is a round one. On investigation I found that if pressed it will lock the car in the same way as the front door sensor ie: one press to lock and one more within 5secs to deadlock. As this info is not in the manual I thought I would share it.
  6. Parts: • 2 X Tailgate gas struts from SGS Engineering (2 X £44.10 inc next day delivery) http://www.sgs-engineering.com/car-boot-tailgate/lexus/rx/gsc2619-lexus-rx400-tailgate-strut Tools: • 12mm spanner/ratchet/torque wrench • Dremel • Needle nose pliers Time: ~30 minutes Steps: First off the replacement gas struts don’t come with the ball joint bracket for attaching to the car/tail gate. So you will have to reuse your old ones. This is probably a two man job as you will need someone holding the tailgate open while you work. I did it by myself using a 6ft step ladder held firmly in place with supports. Do this at your own peril though! I turned off the auto tailgate motors from the little button in the glove box. With the tailgate open, remove the original gas struts from the car first, then the tailgate by removing the nuts. The next challenge here is the old struts are kept very firmly on the old ball joint with an o-ring and there doesn’t seem to be any obvious way to remove. I had to grind enough of the outer ball joint away until I could see the o-ring.. then prise this out with some needle nose pliers. It got easier as I did the other joints and I got more efficient with how much I had to remove. Once you’ve freed all 4 ball joints. Re-attach them to the car and tail gate. Tighten to 8Nm if you have a torque wrench. You can use some locktight on these if you’re worried about them coming loose. Remove the retaining pins from the new struts and pop them in to place starting with the tailgate end first. Re-insert the retaining pins when done. I put a small bit of grease inside each one. Try opening and closing the tailgate a few times to ensure everything works and it’s well supported. Then turn the auto tailgate back on again from the glovebox.
  7. Hi there, I just bought a second hand 2003 RX300 and the power boot is not working. I've tried it with all the key fobs, the button inside the boot and the button inside the glove box is in the right position. I've done a lot of Google searching and found people saying that you should try manually opening and closing it, that doesn't work either, I recently found a few links to people saying that it wont open if the power windows are locked or if the passenger door is not open, I've not tried these yet. Is there a specific fuse for the power boot and if so where is it? I've located the fuse box inside bay, however the manual shows another fuse box that I'm either blind to see or I can't find it? Before I take it into Lexus does anyone have any suggestions? Regards,
