Should I Trade My Is250 For An Rx400?

Recommended Posts

Hi there - my first post.

I have a '58 IS250 that I love and which drives beautifully. However, I can't stop looking atRX400's.

My budget isn't much and I'm looking at quite high mileage models, around 80-90k. 2006-2007 vintage. Is that a problem?

Can I expect to replace the cam belt etc.? Will the Sat Nav be any use? I'm getting around 25mpg from my IS - will an RX be about the same?

I'm looking at cars from independent traders as I can't afford to go through a Lexus dealer.

Any advice will be very welcome.

Many thanks,

Rod

Shouldn't be a problem.

Mpg wise you should see about the same mpg or higher. Road tax should be similar to the IS250 too.

Sat nav will be ok. It'll work and take you on all the major routes but of course, it won't know the latest roads unless it's been updated which you can get done for about £150 at the dealers.

Main thing to look out for on the older RXs are the wheels which can corrode, sticking brake calipers and rust on the underside. Sunroofs tend to play up and air suspension has issues on some.

Make sure the belt is changed as it costs a fair bit unless the price is really good

They seem to of really dropped in value recently so you should be able get decent price. Last year you looking at £20k to get a top notch dealer one, now the same car would be £12k.

No air suspension on the 400h to worry about. But check the alloys and brakes.
