Breaking A Car

Recommended Posts

managed to track a gs300 that i intend to buy and break for parts as i have two aristos. i can get the car to a mechanic who has promised to help strip it apart but the problem is what do i do after taking all the bits off it and its only left with the shell.

not sure if the scrap yard will touch it as it would be of no use to them.

how much of the car are you stripping out

I did the same with my old work car when I blow it up

brought another one swapped all the bits over

then just rung Trent's and got them to come and pick it up for free

(scrapyards are paying again for cars (or they are my way))

as for use, it'll weigh something, so it'll be worth something

local councils will take them away

needs to be registered at your address though !

might be a nominal charge

thanks guys, i will give the council a ring in the morning. not sure if i will have a enough time to register it before taking it to bits.

i intend to take as much as i can eg gear box, disc, calipers bonnet, lights, doors. basically anything i can keep or sell.

the dvla are quite good lately, with a turnaround of less than 2 weeks

if you strip it right down you will need a pick up vehicle with a crane, most back street breakers will only take what they can tow or winch onto a flat bed !

we had a car which was stripped down to a bare shell, we then filled up the inside with left over parts and any old rubbish we found, the council charged us about £25 which in essence was cheaper than a skip

Disposing of your vehicle

Every year in th UK, about 2 million vehicles reach the end of their life. Disposed of responsibly, vehicle materials can be recycled and reused in a variety of ways.

However, some 300,000 vehicles are dumped or abandoned annually, blighting communities and damaging the environment. The cost of removing these vehicles costs councils and local waste authorities £23million a year.

Wolverhampton unwanted vehicle scheme

To help reduce the number of abandoned vehicles by 25% over the next 3 years, a free vehicle collection service has been set up in Wolverhampton.

An arrangement is in place with two local companies who will remove your unwanted vehicle for free.

To arrange a free removal of an unwanted vehicle, contact:
