My bonnet supports are losing pressure and as such the bonnet doesn't stay up very easily, particularly when it's cold weather.

I have got a quote from a Lexus dealer outside London of around £140, which I don't think I can get cheaper than that in the UK.

Anybody ever got these from USA or Japan?

I've seen original supports on a US Lexus site at around £72 for both, but the part numbers are slightly different. It's got good stuff on there actually, www.irontoad.com

Cheers

Hi,

Usually hang out on US site so I have an answer for you. Autozone has replacement struts for $13.99 ea. If you browse through the usa ls400 forum you can find a web site that gives details of exactly how to replace them and the autozone part number. Thought I had printed out the info but can't find it.

I have a 1993 that the struts are very weak. Will replace them soon.

PS Lexus cost in us is $71 each.

good luck

My company stocks a number of these items for use on things like buses and motorhomes, the important information you need is the required pressure and the length of the two tubular sections. If you have this information I may have something suitable in stock that would cost you £5.00 each + P&P although they would not be Lexus branded. If I don;t have anything suitable then you could using the same info try other UK manufacturers/stockists for something that would do the job.

I had the same problem on my '90 LS400. Colin at PowerHouse Garage (Camberley) fitted a replacement for £60.

Thanks for all the advice guys. In the end, the car is booked in at Westfield motors for a lot of work, and I've managed to get 15% Gold discount off of the retail Lexus price, so gonna go down that route.

I did phone Powerhouse a few weeks ago because I'd heard good things about them, but never heard back from them, so I assume they didn't need my business!
