Mk 1 Rx - Headlamp Deflectors For Europe

Recommended Posts

My Lexus dealership have just kindly provided me with Lucas headlamp deflectors. They need to be cut to match the shape of the lens/prism on the headlight. Now the covers on my RX are clear, there are no prism shapes to follow.

On previous cars I have always used insulating tape as the shape has been easy to work out. The minor problem with this is that the adhesive on the tape becomes baked on and I've had to use thinners on the glass to remove it.

I have seen a number of Lexus models with a crazing or cloudy section on the headlights, looks to me that something like a deflector has been fitted then removed. Is there something that is safe to clean them with?

How do I avoid annoying the Frogs and look after my headlights at the same time? Many thanks for any info.

See below for answer from Lexus UK. There is no need to do anything.

Thank you for your further email.

I can confirm that the HID (High Intensity Discharge) headlamps on the RX 350 do not need to be
converted for travel on the continent. The set up of the headlamp is such that the light shines in a horizontal
flat beam which has no kick up and as such is not dazzling to drivers of oncoming cars.

As you have suggested, we would recommend that the Intelligent Adaptive Front-lighting
System (I-AFS) is switched off when travelling on the continent.

Yours sincerely

Hi,

the Mk 1 RX300 does need beam deflectors, the generic ones work fine on a Mk1, get them as part of a euro driving pack from eBay, includes stuff like breathalysers, warning triangle etc.

As to cleaning the headlamp plastic ( it tends to go opaque anyway ) toothpaste and a damp cloth, 30 minutes graft and they are like new, really brightens the front of your Rex up. Look on youtube theres loads of vids showing you how!

Also as a Mk1 owner take a look on clublexus.com, its an international forum ( mainly american though), incredible amounts of info on Mk1s, DIYs, problem solving etc!

Cheers Jason
