Fuel Gauge Readout Changing When The Battery Gets Reconnected

Hi all

Went to change the Battery on my is200 this morning with the fuel light on but after i reconnected the new Battery the guage read that i had a quarter of tank of petrol left.Its isnt the first time its done this so i was wondering id there something wrong with my fuel guage at all? i do seem to be getting pretty pants mpg at the min around 19 mpg.Any help would be appreciated.

havin the same sort of problems with the fuel guage on mine reads 1/4 when its empty but when you turn the egnition off it drops to the normal position at the bottom is this a common fault with the 200 my last one didnt do it.

could it be the dash or the sensor in the fuel tank

Normally happens when people swap engines, as the IS has quite a complicated way of working of fuel levels, and normally comes from an ECU problem (only when swapping engines / upgrading)

Unsure what it could be when you havnt changed anything

Is there any other symptoms that would be occuring if the ecu has an issue ?
