Maybe First Gs300 Mk2 (96)- Basic Info Please

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I have had LS400's but nothing much I was interested in has come for a few weeks - so, I have GS300 in mind but after the total reliabilty etc of 400's Im nervous about going into new ground, so, the one I am interested in has 180k with full service history, no idea of any past work done on it.

So, questions are, for an LS400 that milegage is meaningless but what about the GS300 '96 models at that mileage? also, how quiet are they compared to a 400? what MPG is likely at 56MPH M/Way driving, many thanks for any help & tips

The lack if response could be that you are asking about a '96 mk2. A '96 would be a mk1.

My mk1 sport has 245000 miles on it and still going strong, so I would say 180000 is not an issue as long as it has been serviced on schedule. At a constant 70, I get about 33 mpg. Average I get around 25mpg. Never do. Constant 56 so can't help with that.

My mk2 sport has 100000 miles on the clock so can't comment on mileage from experience. Although I would expect it to be fine. Not really checked mpg yet on it.

Never been in an LS, so no idea on noise levels. My mk2 is much quieter in the cabin than the mk1.

Thanks for that reply Tiger Fish, thought I saw Mk2 somewhere but was wrong, I dont know the GS300's at all which is why I posted. Im impressed by the 245k high mileage, I have heard nothing about the GS300 engines and longevity or otherwise, thanks for comments.

The GS300 powerplant is the same as the Toyota Supra. You will probably find more info on reliability by searching on the Supra. By all accounts, they are very good, strong engines. They have weaknesses, like the rear crank oil seal, so a good maintenance schedule is important, not neccesarily a Lexus one, just a good one.
