Hi,

Not a good day this morning. On my way to work and my car is making a weird noise while on stand still or at the traffic lights.

It sounds like a grinding noise. It is coming from one of the pulleys I think.

Timing belt was replaced at 80'000 miles current mileage is 139'000.

Is this a common problem or am i being silly and need to change the belt and pulleys?

Also..

I have a squeaking noise from the rear tyre drivers side and gets louder while driving quicker. possibly brake caliper or disk?

Sounds like the water pump, the grinding. Your cambelt is due a change when you hit 140k anyway so change the WP while your at it

Check if its leaking and touch it to see if the grinding coresponds to how it feels

As for wheel noise not sure, pads ok at the back?

Hi Pete,

Garage have confirmed it is the water pump and tensioner pulley.

For the wheel noise, break pads needed changing but the noise was metal touching the brake caliper...weird.

Yeah unless your missing your brake clips as i was when i bought mine they should be pushed back, saying that without a good amount of pressure from the disc, the pistons might be staying put. Oh well pads should sort it. Easy to fit yourself btw. As for water pump and idlers, this sounds right, its normal for them to be showing signs of wear when the cambelts due, unfortunately its an expensive time of the year when it comes around! just had mine done, bought the parts myself for £160 and a good garage i know charged £175 labour. not bad compared to what ive seen some ppl get charged on here

Good luck anyway
